Brewers office said it received more than 40,000 calls and emails most urging her to kill the measure. Good morning, annemarie. Experts say these nutrition labels are badly in need of an overhaul after being unchanged. We may go for a sticker shock when we see the calorie count under a more realistic serving size. First Lady Michelle obama will join e officials from the food and Drug Administration this morning to propoesz changes on food. These labels have been around for decades. Officials say they need an update to better reflect the way americans eat. The new labels would be easier to understand and prominently display calorie counts in larger bolder type. They would also include a list of nutrients most americans should be consuming more of like potassium. Theyll include added sugars, those put into food during processing and the calories from fat label will be removed, something nutritionists have lobbied for in the past i think they get very confused. I think the total calories would be beneficial. Reporter another big change. Serving sizes will get bigger. Items like 20ounce sodas will become one serving. The changes are aimed at battling obesity, soaring rinks of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and stroke. So right now this can of soup, the label shows 2 1 2 servings. Under the changes, that could change to one serving bringing the calorie count from 90 up to 235. The serving size needs to show actual consumption, not ideal consumption.
