We begin with the riddle of Malaysia Airline flight 370. Now more than a week after the boeing 777 and the 239 people onboard vanished without a trace, there is growing evidence the jet was deliberately diverted. Investigators say one of the planes signaling systems was shut down before the last contact. The final communication from the crew, all right, good night, did not mention any trouble, and its unclear who was speaking. The focus of the investigation has shifted to the pilot and first officer. Seth doane reports from kuala lumpur. Reporter when police searched captain zaharie shahs home, they found a flight simulator. The 53yearold pilot was seen sitting in front of a simulate never a video he posted online. Authorities said the simulator was confiscated and rebuilt at the police station. Officers from the Royal Military police visited the home of the pilot. They spoke to family members of the pilot and expressed examining the pilots flight simulator. Reporter zaharie who had been flying with Malaysia Airlines since 1981 was an aviation enthusiast. We tried to enter a gated community where the captain lived but found beefed up security. Police also searched the copilots house saturday. This is the copilot fariq hamids house. He lived here with his family. We rang the doorbell but no one answered. Neighbors tell us that they have seen police cars and motorcycles here. They also tell us this was a relatively quiet family that kept to themselves. His nextdoor neighbor would not give her name said shed only exchanged quick hellos with the 27 years old. I know hes a pilot and i know hes related to the new, but when i saw cameras in front of this house, then i saw his phase, yeah, i know this guy. Reporter the focus on these pilots have sharpened followed by timelines laid out by authorities at press briefings. Officials say flight 370s Communication Systems were partially disabled before the final words heard from the cockpit, which did not signal any trouble to air traffic controllers. Growing frustration was clear on tl sunday talk shows. The pilot and copilot should have been the focus from the start. That would have been ordinary Law Enforcement and investigate torrey procedures. The fb i could have been called in to help that, interpol intelligence agentsagencies. By this afternoon, heavy snow is expected from the central appalachians to the jersey shore. Its already snowing in virginia where some areas could see up to 10 inches. Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram of our baltimore station wjz is following the storm. Were seeing another round of winter for places like the midatlantic where winter just wont quit. Snowfall plus mixed precipitation. Weve also got a severe side to this storm system, and that includes places like florida that could see severe thunderstorms as we head into your monday afternoon and evening. But back to the winter side for the midatlantic. D. C. And baltimore, you guys even into the morning commute are going to be dealing with moderate to heavy snowfall. Its not until about the lunchtime hour where things begin to taper off quite a bit. Well be tapering off from the northwest to southeast as we head into monday afternoon. By the evening time, things are really going to start to dry out, but not without leaving behind quite a bit of snowfall accumulation. Check this out. Through monday afternoon and evening, were looking at about 3 to 6 inches for the areas in white. Yes, that does include the d. C. Metro as well as the baltimore metro. 6 to 12 for areas in the blue. Outside of that were looking at 1 to 3 inches. Im meteorologist Chelsea Ingram for cbs news. The citizens of crimea have overwhelmingly voted to rejoin russia. The west is pushing back against yesterdays vote. Today the Crimean Parliament is expected to formally ask moscow to be annexed. Susan mcginnis is in washington. Susan, good morning. Marlie, good morning. The final tally came in at 97 of crimeans voting in fash of joining russia. Washingtons position is that this vote took place under duress from russias military. President obama told president putin if moscow tries to annex crimea, there will be sanctions, but the focus really seems to have shifted now to keeping moscow from moving further into ukraine. Prorussian crimeans rallied in Lennon Square and simferopol in landside victory to reunite with moscow. This resident says i think a great future is ahead with russia. Another said its a time of joy. We are coming home. More than 80 of crimeans turns out to show their support. In a telephone conversation with russian president vladimir putin, president obama said the u. S. Will never recognize the vote and urged him to help resolve the crisis in crimea diplomatically. U. S. And european leaders now plan to move forward quickly to pressure moscow. That could inviewed travel bans and economic sanctions. I believe everybody will suffer if weve got to do sanctions, but the only ones that can prevent this are the russians. Reporter and the vote is already having a ripple effect. People of the city of donetsk stormed them to join russia as well. Many residents of crimea who did not want to join russia boycotted the vote rather than become part of the rigged vote. Marlie . This morning the Pacific Coast has been rocked by a powerful aftershock. The 6. 7 quake was centered about 40 miles offshore sunday evening. It triggered evacuations along coastal areas, but no damage or injuries were reported. Chile is one of the worlds most earthquakeprone countries. There was a chase that ended with the police. It happened on saturday 70 miles north of san francisco. The labrador named oreo somehow made its way halfway down a 90foot cliff and couldnt get back up. The deputy fitted a rope around the dog. The helicopter then lifted oreo to the top of the cliff where it was reunited with its owner. Standoff between Chicago Police and a murder suspect ended after almost nine hours. As dana kozlov of our chicago station wbbm reports it began with a car chase on sunday that forced one of the citys most heavily traveled roads to be shut down. Pressures come about because were dealing with human behavior. Reporter a month ago an Ethiopian Airlines copilot hijacked a plane in a bid for seeking ylum in switzerland. Years ago a plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean killing all 217 people on board. The ntsb stopped short of calling it a suicide but concluded the pilots caused the crash. It happened shortly before midnight on willow pass road near sixth street. Officers say the victim was walking on the sidewalk when they were hit. The pedestrian was then either thrown or dragged on to the road. Witnesses say the vehicle was a twotoned pickup truck. Investigators working with lot of physical evidence that may help catch
