Plus pastry chef who they call mr. Chocolate chef Jacques Torrez in studio 57. First our top story, the steady flooding in the rockies. The relengthless rain continues overnight into the morning pushing the rivers from their banks from the banks to Colorado Springs. At least four people are dead. 172 are unaccounted for, thousands had to evacuate and more rain is on the way. Rick salinger of our affiliate station kcnc is with us good. Morning, rick. Reporter good morning, vinita and anthony. Whats happening is its all pushing further, cutting off towns and roads there as the crisis continues. The biggest thing is looking at your kids face and seeing the look of terror on their face as they realize this might be their last day. Reporter brian describes a terrifying moment when his familys truck got stuck and began to fill with water. He was one of many who had to be evacuated as swollen rivers washed out homes and highways. Water started pouring in like crazy. It was kind of like a scene from the titanic. Reporter rising rivers took over towns from Colorado Springs to the wyoming border flooding homes, businesses, and schools. Steve flowers decided it was time to leave when he saw the water was creeping closer to his home. Theres a river in front of the house, back of the house, propane tanks are floating down the highway, cars upside down. Its a real disaster. Reporter roads were washed out, leeching some people completely cut off. The National Guard had to send in helicopters to rescue people from jamestown who have been stranded for days. No water, no telephone, no power, you know just basically like living in a cave. Reporter people were not the only ones trapped. Herds of cows and other animals were seen standing in deaning waters. This man rode his horse to safety. Its not over yet. More is expected over the weekend but Boulder County sheriff says they should begin to make progress as the weather improves during the coming week. I think thats of little solace for people waiting in the mountains for someone to come help them. Reporter search and rescue operations are expected to continue today, and as these waters recede theyre expected to reveal more of the devastation left behind. Anthony and vinita . Impressive scene behind you. Rick salinger in boulder, colorado, behind you. Thank you. So what is going on with the pattern in colorado and other recommend mountain states is and how long will the rain continue . Lets find out from our meteorologist kraeg setzer of our affiliate station wfor. Good morning, craig. Good morning, vinita. Unfortunately the heavy pattern thats bringing all the rain is not moving. Stretching from mexico to colorado parts of utah and back into idaho. And the overall pattern is a stubborn low pressure area sitting over the western u. S. And that low ini circle lakes in deep tropical flow continues across much of the rockies there. So more heavy rainfall is possible today. And in many areas, its not going to be a lot of rainfall to create more problems. In fact rainfall models are showing that anywhere from one to two inches of rain could possibly produce more flash flooding, especially through the mountains and foothills of eastern colorado. Not only is colorado under the gun, but new mexico to the south also has the possibility of some significant flooding. So a serious situation could only get worse with any additional rain fachlt vinita and anthony . Thank you. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a landmark boardwalk on the jersey shore. Hot spots from seaside and the neighboring park are under investigation. The boardwalk was built just five months ago after being destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. To give you an idea of the extent of the destruction, heres a picture of what happened after the hurricane. But this is what it looks like after the fire. Terrell brown is in seaside park with the latest. Terrell, good morning. Reporter anthony, good morning to you. We talked to a fire chief who told us the socalled hot spots, flareups will likely be an issue over the next several days. Thats happening this morning as we see the winds pick up. It will slow down the investigation. But so far no sign of any suspicious activity. The windswept fire engulfed one building after another. Four blocks of this new jersey town is charred rubble. Where were you yesterday . Right across the street from it. Directly across the street. Reporter 25yearold bubba de niro own as restaurant here. I saw the wind blew and i knew the whole thing was going to go up r he watched his restaurant bubbas restaurant go down. Looking at it hurts. Reporter this is where he started his business four years ago. I was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy last october. Eager to reopen he moved down to affordable space but could not afford insurance. Im going to wake up and hope its all over but i know its not going to be. Reporter ocean county fire chief Brian Gabriel said the strategy was to get the fire under control. Did we lose some property . Yes. We had to lose a little to saving a lot. Reporter his loz affects his family. His sisters and cousins work for him and now theyre unemployed. He isnt sure how he hell do it but hell rebuild. What happened to me doesnt happen in 50 years, i realize that, but you have to persevere in life. Reporter hes one of 50 owners to lose his business at seaside park. Governor christie will be here to talk to Business Owners about what options they have next. Vinita and anthony . Thank you. Now to syria. U. N. Inspectors will deliver their report to the secretary today or tomorrow in new york likely confirming chemical weapons were used to kill 1,400 civilians last month. Meanwhile secretary of state john kerry is in gentlemen knee that this morning talking to his russian counterpart in talks, talks that could be a turning point. Margaret brennan is there. Good morning, gret. Reporter good morning to you, vinita. We have come to an agreement. The u. S. Has come toen a agreement that will divert u. S. Strikes on syria at least for now. Just moments ago secretary kerry read out the points of the agreement. Syria has one week to provide all details on its chemical weapons arsenal. All of that will be removed or it will be destroyed by International Weapons inspectors. Kerry says he expects those workers to be on the ground in syria by midnovember and heres whats surprising. The u. S. And russia have both agree thad they will remove all of these weapons, but it will be under a u. N. Security Council Resolution backed up by force. The threat of u. S. Military force remains an option but not a requirement if syria doesnt transfer these weapons. We also know the Obama Administration reserves the right to carry out unilateral strikes if syria doesnt transfer the weapons. Heres how secretary kerry describes his view just a few moments ago. We said at the outset that to accomplish our goal this plan had to produce transparency, accountability, timelyinesstimeliness and enforceability. It must be credible and verifiable. If fully implemented, we believe it can meet these standards. The world will now expect the outside regime to live up to its public commitments. And as i said at the outset of these negotiations, there can be no games, no room for avoidance or anything less than full compliance by the assad regime. Reporter kerry admits that this plan is very ambitious. He and his russian counter part Sergey Lavrov are still answering questions at this a hotel right behind me. Hell leave tomorrow and head to paris where they say they do support u. S. Military action. So the details are still coming together but for now the u. S. Led strike has been averted. Some big developments over the past few moments. Margaret brennan in geneva for us, thank you. Coming up a little later, president assad sat down with charlie rose. Charlie will discuss how he got that interview. Tomorrow on face the nation, bob schiffre is guest will include bob corker of tennessee along with carl levin of michigan and madeleine albright. An American Company is at the helm and lit take a team of 500 people from countries and Mother Nature for the seas to lay quiet. The line hearse been lying on its side since it ran aground 20 months ago. The method is known as parbuckling but its unprecedented in terms of scale and cost. After building a platform beneath the hull, cranes will slowly put her back upright at the rate of 3 miles an hour and then air pumped into massive containers will help refloat and stabilize the ship. We thought about eight to ten hours later, we want to do that. Reporter if all goes to plan and she doesnt break apart in the process, shell be towed and way and broken up for scrap. The cruise ship had more than 4,000 passengers on board when it ran into a reef that sliced a 230foot gash into the side of its hull. Two americans were among 30 people killed. Two more passengers are still missing. Their bodies may be on board somewhere. The operation to salvage the ship 2 1 2 times the size of the titanic is already the most expensive in maritime history. 800 million with insurance estimates topping 1. 1 billion, and nobody wants to think of the cost financial or otherwise, if mondays operation fails. Crews have reinforced part of the hull. Its being described as like applying a neck brace before removing an accident victim anthony and vin nigh ta . Charlie dagata in london this morning. Some lucky Airline Travelers are getting a lucky break thanks to a mistake by american airlines. They announced they will give the tickets for free. Those who snapped up the tickets will pay only 5 to 10, the cost of the fee. Where were we on that one . I want one of those. Now to money, who has it and who doesnt. Right now the gap between the richest 1 and the rest of america is the widest its been since the roaring 20s. Last year the wealthiest american, that 1 took home more than 19 , almost onefifth of the countrys total household income. Thats the biggest share since 1928. David, good morning. Good morning. First of all, who are these wealthy americans different than those in the 20s . Its true that the gap has been has not been this wide for about a hundred years. They started doing this kind of data once they had tax returns coming in when the income taxes were instituted and its never been this wide. They are different, the old f. Scott fitzgerald talking about the rich different from you and i. Now theyre different over different generations. Back in the day of the gilded ables back when they were building the fancy houses on rhode island, they had to live off investments and mommy and daddys money. These days the top earning inging ingearns in our society are working now. Theyre working as ceos and entrepreneurs, but, still, a lot of their money is coming from investments, not wages. When we talk about money, we want to be clear. The top pretax 394,000. The top ten exceeding 114,000 for the household. Why did it surge last year in particular thoughsome. There was ale of things. Theres been changes to the u. S. Tax law so a lot of wealthier families, individuals, want the cash out of some of their Investment Income to lower their tax bill for the coming year. Houvgs these are longterm trends that have been with us for 30 years and that onetime tax law change isnt changing the real story here. The top 1 share income bottomed out at 7. 7 in 1973. s been rising ever since. As we mentioned, its now 20 . Where is the growth in income coming from . Prince employ from the stock market . It is coming from the stock market and other investments. Heres a secret that we need to do a better job in mentioning to people over time which is that you watch the stock market Dow Jones Industrial average, s p 500, but that isnt necessarily translating into every americans pocketbook. Heres the thing that floors me whenever im reminded of this statistic. The fact is that the top 10 most wealthy people in the u. S. Own 90 of all stock ss. So the dow and the s p and the nasdaq are only affecting some folks. Regular folks, wage earns, they need their paycheck. What used to happen before the great recession, before 2008, we had wealth in our houses so we borrowed against that wealth and so thats how we felt a little bit more comfortable. Its not happening now, of course. How do we shrink that gap . Its interesting. Its a longterm gap and difficult to move. Its always important to note that the Union Movement the gap has widened so thats one important clue. Another important thing is of course education, which is at the bottom of so many economic stories. Poor families have done wonderful work to get their kids to get diplomas high school and college over the last couple of years but the welter this families have been working at i as well and they getting even more education, college, and graduate school and yet you see the incomes widen again. Thank you very much. Commemorated the civility Rights Movement more than 50 years ago. It killed four young girls in baptist church. What struck me was a white woman with grandchildren. I went up to her. She was pointing at the memorial. I asked her whierks are you here. She said im from birmingham and i thought it was important that my grandson know what this is about, that this is more than just a story and i wanted him even at 2 because he could barely talk but even at 2, she was giving him very detailed instructions and conversations about what had happened. I was very struck by that. The bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church was a turning point in the civil Rights Movement j and its about 22 after the hour. Now heres a look at the weather for your weekend. It was the interview that made worldwide headlines. Coming up behind the scenes of bashar al assad. So i really just tried to you know, hang in there and think about not just the timing but the match. Sorry i ruined your dinner plans. I didnt mean to. How dare you. Its all good. A personal best beating his personal career low round of 62. Anthony . Charlie rose had a worldwide exclusive interview this week with president bashar al assad. Assad promised there would be consequences to any american attack on his country. There will be attacks on bases in the middle east if theres an air strike . You should expect everything. You should expect everything. Not necessarily just through the government. The government is not the only player in this region. Yo view different parties, different factions different ideology. You have everything in the decision now, so you have to expect that. Tell me what you mean by expect everything. Expect every action. Including Chemical Warfare . That depends. If the rebels or the terrorists in this region or any other group have it it could happen. I dont know. Im not a fortune teller to tell you whats going to happen. And charlie rose is with us. Charlie, good morning. Good to see you. Charlie, to begin with how long had you been pursuing this interview with assad before this . I had interviewed him twiens before both onehour sessions. About a year and fail and got no response really. Not working through any particular source, but this time i heard through the press office that perhaps we could do something. They wanted two things. They wanted an unedited interview. I went to jeff fager, our beloved chairman and said is cbs interested this this . Cbs 60 minutes perhaps interested in this . Jeff had conversations with them as well. At this time they didnt want to have an unedited interview and so it fell down. Said, how about we do it on my program, an unedited program and thats, i think what has appealed to them. Thats the same thing i have done with the president and others all the time. How would you describe assads mood . I thought he seemed controlled. Not under stress. Its not that he was relaxed or uncomfortable. He did not seem a man who was under a lot of stress. Clearly he is. You clearly got the impression that he was worried about what would happen and the consequences that might explode out of control. Did this interview feel any other way than your previous interview with him . Yes because this was focused. It was focused the possibility of a war rather than a strike rather than a whole wideranging conversation about the middle east. Syria is not an easy place to get into right now. Well, thats interesting because any other time i had flown into damascus. This time what i did was with jeff and paul needham. We flew into beirut and then immediately were met by some cbs people and then went to the border, had our visas there, and then continued by car to damascus. Were there any security precautions you had to take . We had flap jacks and things like that. I didnt feel any particular fear along the way. It seemed to me they were expecting us to come. But we had to give up some satellite phones and couldnt take them into the country. Theyre very nervous about using cameras once youre there. I had a camera that i wanted to take some pictures. They wouldnt let you. No way. No. Whats interesting in conversation with them, their concerns were not about anything that i or anybody had done. They were concerned that they felt like in a previous interview it had been unedited unfairly to them and so thats why the emphasis was on an unedited interview to me. Secondly they never expressed what content would be included. There was some question about his english is not perfect and if he has trouble with a word bear with him. Have you heard from the Assad Government in any way since then . I have not. I do not know what their reaction to the interview was. I have been told since they have spoken about the interview and parts of it have been broadcast. Internationally over there. Yeah, because of what he said. The interesting thing we didnt pick up in the beginning is i specifically asked him what would you do . Would you give up chemical weapons if in fact the president would not make a strike. At that point, it was sunday morning. No conversation had taken place about that publicly before. He simply said if in fact a strike would lead to a war, he wanted to do the right thing. That might be an option to consider. In terms of tin veer us youve done where would this rank. Far far above anything. Once i left there everyone wanted the talk about including bbc and broadcast stations around the world including middle east. Charlie rose. Thank you for being with us this morning morning. And now heres a look at the weather for your weekend. Up next doctors jon lapook and Holly Phillips join us for morning rounds. A serious outbreak of whooping cough. A deadly threat to children. Joining us our chief medical correspondent dr. Jon lapook and cbc contributor dr. Holly phillips. We begin in texas where theres been an outbreak of per us the sis or whooping cough. Babes especially are at risk. Reporter Michael Clark is barely three months old but hes in a fight for his life against per us the sis or whooping chaff. Chad and lisa are his parents. Its heartbreaking, when im used to being the one taking care of everything and i can take care of nothing except sit back anldd watch. Reporter it causes is veer coughing fits. Dr. Jeffrey kahn worked at Childrens Medical Center in dallas. I think whats concerning about this is the lack of awareness. Every case of per us the sis we see here the parent can recall some individual that childs been exposed to where they had a cough. Reporter youre saying in virtually all instances where theyve nearly died they got it from an adult. Thats right. An adult unbeknownst to them had per us the sis and they thought they had whooping cough. Why is it hitting babes so hard . Babes are especially vulnerable. They have these tiny airways and they cant get enough oxygen in. They get clogged with mucus. You saw the baby coughing. And then when they try to get oxygen, thats the whoop. The problem is theyre sitting ducks because they dont get their first immunization in two months. Its a horrible sound. Are they predominantly getting it from parents . Yes. Thats whats so sad. Predominantly theyre getting it from grownups. Theres no way to get the protection on their own. They need us to get the immunization. Only 12 of adults are immunized. The others are pregnant women. With each pregnancy because partly theyre not going to get pregnant themselves but the immuneky can travel across the placenta and give the baby a little protection. Also this week a new study in the new england journal of medicine finds men may benefit from estrogen. Lets get into it. What exactly is this study saying . Snow you know it was interesting in that it showed that boast testosterone and estrogen increase in member as they age. Low testosterone decreases muscle mass and size and strength but low estrogen increases body fat, particularly around the body fat. It sort of leads to that big belly that member tend to get is that get older. Both of the hormones decrease sex drive when they fall. Both hormones play a role in mens age, not just testosterone that we hear all about. We see all these ads and events about low t. So we have to worry about low e as well . If you take testosterone, you dont have to worry about estrogen because the body changes tesstosterone into estrogen. You shouldnt take it just to slow aging. Thats happening anyway. But if you have a documented blood test that show yos u have low testosterone for your age, you might consider a supplying plnlt. But theres no fountain of youth yet. Too bad. Summer is almost over but its promising to be bad one. Wham weather is leading to recordhigh mold counts in the air and hay fever symptoms reach their peak at this time of year. Doctors say suffers should stay inside, avoid doing lawn work, change your clothes when you come inside and shower and wash your hair at night to get rid of allergens before you go to bed. We had concerns about the commercials with devastating consequences for smokers. Take a look. Im terry. I want to show you how i get ready in the morning. Now im ready for the day. Those ads ran last year for only three months but results released by the centers for Disease Control showed that 200,000 people quit smoking after seeing the campaign. Half of those people are expected to kick the habit for good. Though is are Great Results and theyre more than double. How do they know it was a result of that campaign . Its always you know they were linked to the ads and then they dropped. Heres the thing. We know that nasty negative campaigning works. My opponent cigarette smoke, will give you cancer and a horrible terrible death. So it works. I mean we see the numbers. Thats very dramatic. Its sort of whatever works, right . 50 of smokers try to quit every year but only 5 actually succeed, so if this helps, whatever it takes. They certainly are graphic. You dont forget them at all. Heres whats important. If you dont smoke a cigarette by the time youre 18 the odds are that youll ever start smoking. Thats a stunning number. Finally most parents agree that exercise is good for their kids but now a new study shows that it might actually make children smarter. Researchers at the university of illinois studied a group of 9yearolds and 150yearolds. The kids memorized fictitious names on the map and those who were physically fit did bet owner the memory test. Past studies have also suggested a link between a strong body and a strong brain. Holly, i mean this is interesting because we geeshet a lot of schools that are actually phasing out phys ed. You know, when budgets are tight, maybe phys ed is one of the lasts things that should go rather than the first. I dont know of any parent who thinks this would not work. Know if i letmy girls out and say, run, get it out of your system, they come back and can sit down and concentrate so i think that sort of physical activity is crucial and we should do what we can to keep it in the school. Its interesting. Its not just learning. Its memory too. Our mothers are right. Go out and play. Our mothers were right. Eat your fruit and vegetables and go out and play. Its basic information but always holds true. Up next how do you clean up 1,400 tons of molasses. Matteson says it regrets the accident and says theyre taking steps to make sure it does not happen again. Since the leak state officials have pulled more than 1,000 fish from the water. One theory for the killoff is that the molasses attracted bacteria which absorbed the ox jeb in the water, suffocating the marine life. Clearly its seen to slow oxygen. Reporter he says it could take thousands of years for affected reefs to come bag if at all. We may not see certain parts of that reef rebound. The fishes themselves likely to come bakck. The invert brats likely to come back but over time. Reporter unlike oil that rises to the surface of the water, molasses sinks to the bottom making it impossible to clean up. The only fix is to allow the tide to flush the gooey material into the ocean. Meanwhile theyre documenting the accident. Everything is dead. He said you could be over there right now tearing that car apart, sending it off to get repaired and you could be getting ready for the next chance. I told him i didnt know i had that chance. I thought it was over. It showed you as a little boy and you said i want to be a race car driver and im Dale Earnhardt jr. Did you grow up thinking ive got to be a great. No i didnt think about that. I was just in awe of the sport and my father winin championships and winning. I was just you know, too excited about the potential. All i wanted to do was to be able to drive cars. To be able to do this and not have to work for a living that would be it. In the end, what is the talent that the best have . Fearlessness and, you know guts and just theres a theres a theres a unique raw speed that a guy has and you can see it when theyre inside the car that some guys have. Coming up this half hour first it was wind and water. This time it was fire. Two new jersey towns just recovering from Hurricane Sandy are faced with another mammoth rebuilding job. Then on this the day of one of his biggest games, well take look at how texas a ms phenomenal kwab Johnny Manziel is handling the spotlight j and 25 years of the onion, how a fake newspaper thrived while real newspapers declined. First our top story this half hour, disastrous floods in colorado. Seems like theres no end to the rain pounding on the Northern Rockies this week. At least four people are dead. 172 others are unaccounted for. And thousands have been forced from their homes. Rick salinger from our denver station ccnc in hardhit boulder has the latest. Rick, good morning. Reporter good morn, anthony and vinita. Rain is expected once again today as search teams go out to try to find more people who have been cut off by the flooding. After two days of being stranded in an isolated mountain community, residents of jamestown were airlifted to safety by the colorado National Guard yesterday. Once on dry land they were greeted by loved ones and spoke of the conditions they left behind. No water, no telephone, no power, you know just basically like living in a cave. Reporter if floodwaters have now moved further to the east cutting off roads and towns in northeastern colorado. Search operations will step up even more today. There have been many spectacular rescues that have saved several lives. As bad as it has been here with four people dead, that compares to 144 who were killed back in 1976 when the Big Thompson Canyon near here flooded. Anthony and vinita . Some consolation. Rick salinger in boulder. Thank you, rick. So how long will this rain keep up in the rockies . Meteorologist craig setzer of wfor looks at the pattern. Good morning craig. Good morning, anthony. Unformat natalie the pattern is not changing a lot over the next couple of days. This pattern that brought the rain is going to be zuckerberg for the next couple of days and that means flash flood watches and warnings are on the way. Heres the reason. A low pressure area is stuck over the western u. S. Its not moving at all. So the stream of deep tropical moisture continues to come up out of mexico across the area and that means the stage is set for more heavy rain. In fact, computer models today are predicting anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain in some spots, but at this point theres so much rain across the area that the ground cant take anymore. Even an inch of rain could cause additional flooding. A serious situation could get even worse before all is said and done. Anthony and vinita . Craig setzer wfor miami thanks. A Greyhound Bus with 250 people aboard flipped over in cincinnati. The bus crashed on 75. It with us bound for detroit. 20 were taken by balance. Sick by helicopter. The inferno leveled more than four blocks including beach towns and left a community who just rebuilt after Superstorm Sandy with nothing. Lets go Terrell Brown at seaside park in new jersey, good morning, terrell. Reporter good morning to you, anthony. Were starting to see the wind pick up. We talked to firefighters and thats actually expected over the next few days. It goes back to that massive fire that started on the boardwalk. It was a small fire that started on thursday afternoon. It grew to a sixalarm blaze by the evening hours, and by nightfall, it was a tenalarm fire. 400 firefighters were brought here to help fight those flames and in the very end, four blocks were left to be nothing but charred rubble and firefighters actually had a few issues. We talked to a few yesterday who said they had to bring in water. There was an insufficient end water supply. Water had to be pipe method this location from a nearby bay. Also wind was a big issue. 35 to 40mileanhour wind gusts. The fire chief said that was the reason those flames spread so quickly. The main question here this morning, what caused this fire. What is responsible . We havent been given a timetable. So far no word on that. Meanwhile governor christie will be here to talk to local Business Leaders and also local leaders about what options they have and what they can do next. Anthony . We can see smouldering on the boardwalk behind you. Thanks so much. Secretary of state john kerry reached a deal this morning with russias foreign minister on a framework to destroy syrias chemical weapons arsenal and avoid a threatened u. S. Military strike. Margaret brennan is traveling with kerry in geneva switzerland. Good morning, margaret. Reporter good morning to you, vinita. That right. The u. S. And ryu have have agreed on the size of syrias chemical weapons stockpile, the type of agents in it and syria must within one week provide a full inventory of its arsenal. Those agents will be remove and destroy and weapons inspectors will be on the ground by midnovember. It is important to point out here that this is an agreement between the u. S. And russia. Syria has not yet explicitly said that it will follow through with all of this. And that is why the two parties have this enforcement mechanism. Theyve agreed theyre going to go to the u. N. Security council, ask for a resolution that allows them the option but not the requirement to use military force in order to make this transfer happen. The u. S. Will also hold onto the right to carry out a u. S. Strike on syria if they dont comply. But for the moment that strike has been averted. Secretary kerry and his russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov spoke to reporters within the past hour. Listen to how the secretary describes this plan. If we can join together and make this framework a success and eliminate syrias chemical weapons, we would not only save lives, but we would reduce the threat to the region and reinforce an international standard. Reporter now, there is still a lot of homework to be done here between the u. S. And russia to make sure that syria complies and that all of this is carried out. Secretary kerry will travel on to israel and on to speak with u. S. Allies in paris about enforcing this and getting full international support. But we do expect syria to have to provide a response shortly. But this diplomatic agreement has at least for the moment averted the threat of a u. S. Strike. Margaret brennan in geneva switzerland. Last seasoning ays freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel shocked the crimson tide with an upset victory that propelled him to the heisman trophy. But an offseason of controversy and scandal followed leading to a halfgame suspension of manziel. Lets talk with you. Good morning. Good morning. Tickets are selling for at least 800. How big is it . Big big. Theyve been talking about this game for a very long time. Of course, Johnny Manziel has been a big, big talk. Alabama, very good Team National championship team. And theyre going to meet again. When you look at Johnny Football, the accolades are unbelievable. You have missouri and mississippi coaches saying you cant stop him. You have saban himself saying this guy has great athleticism and now theyre saying more with a year off. How do they stop him . Thats a great question. Everybody tries to stop the guy. Hes one of a kind. This guy is a he can improvise, he can escape he can extend plays, he can beat you with his legs beat you with his arms. You have to kind of keep him bottled up. No ones been able to do that. All eyes are on the ball game. Everyone wants to see Johnny Football play against a very very good defense. Remember this. Alabama has had extra time. Theyve had a week off to prepare for this guy. Right. Cbs sportses is going to have a camera on Johnny Manziel the entire game. Its called the johnny cam. But he hasnt always handled the spotlight particularly well. We know in the offseason he got a suspension for signing autographs for money and other troubles. What else do you make of it . This is unusual for a redshirt freshman to go and receive the highest honor and go in new york and with this greatness comes great responsibility, and its hard for a 20yearold to hang out with lebron james, throw out the first pitch. He has a lot of things that he gets to say that say a normal 20yearold doesnt get to do so its different. But i think the coaches have done a good job of really trying to say look its about team. Its not about you. Its about team. But its hard when you have so much access to different things. They just fall in your lap. On the issue of controversy, though do you think College Athletes should be paid . I used to get a laundry check. It was only 8. It was good for a hamburger or maybe a movie. Ed like to see the players get paid monthly. Maybe not over 100 a month, but something. Football right now is bringing in a lot of money. I know. And theyre the stars. Theyre actually the draw. They are. All right. Thanks so much for being with us this morning. You can watch alabama take on texas a m toreday at 3 30 eastern and 12 30 pacific. Many of you will see the manning bowel tomorrow. Yeah, i guess for me when i see the onion and its voice, i think, thank god Something Like that exists. Its so funny. Theres not a lot of i guess, comedy outlets that have the onion sensibility, so its a beacon of hope for some comedy writers. I grew up wanting to write for the onion. The people starting the onion needed to start the onion because they needed to get their voice out in the world. This is a credit to them. You negligenced the 25 years. Working there how have you seen its involve . The process is about the same. We go through hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of headlines and we whittle them down to the three or four you see every day. Its pretty much stayed that way, except now we do a lot more timely content because in this world of the internet that can be absolutely awful and can push you to write so many things. Its kind of incumbent on us. Youve got more competition with shows like jon stewart and colbert. There are people doing not the same thing but in the general area. It this kind of comedy has become almost important. I say this to you. The onion has no competition. I knew this was coming. We blow everyone out of the water. You know the onion is different from the daily show. I think both are very funny, but the onion does fake stories. We create news. Were not looking at a clip of news and creating a fake world. We create a story with each one we do. I think colbert is a little closer to the onion in that he plays character in that the onion itself plays a character. It must be funny what governments get duped. We love it. We love it when governments do. When normal people do its sad. It offers a bit of crunch and the flavor goes very well with the oily meat of the salmon. What else do we have on this table . It looks gorgeous. So we have the salmon we have some garnish. Those are leeks. And the leeks are sauteed in cocoa butter. The fat of the chocolate. So that gives a hint also of flavor and we have the brussel sprouts, potatoes and a little bit of cranberry and some flavor from the south of france where i am from. Thyme, rosemary, and a little bit of pepper that is a spanish pepper. Its not hot but a lot of flavor. You have to smell that. The flavor is asiamazing. Is it difficult cooking with chocolate . You said this had been on the back burner for a long time but you wanted to have more of life under your belt. What did you mean. Well as mr. Drake had to know in the time span that the songs were written there was a lot of nuance and elegance in the song. Its good to understand what youre singing about and also to feel good in your own skin comfortable and be relaxed to do your own take on it. So many greats have done these songs. But mr. Drake told me in an email that he had loved my rendition of his song good morning earthache which actually started this whole project. 25 years ago i sang it on carson when i sang con da and two years ago i sat down. Sat down at the piano with him and asked him, do you know good morning heartache and i saw the whole project before me. Irving where did that song come from . Its hard to call it inspiration because i wrote it about a woman who is now my wife, but then broke my heart because i was a young struggling songwriter and she was a girl around town. She just enjoyed herself with all the fellows, you know . I like you very much she said but, you know i have a zest for life. Right. All i could see was her. I had a blind spot for everybody else. So it really broke my heart. You got the best end of the deal because you got the song and her. You got the girl in the end, definitely. Thats not where i got her. Thats good to know.
