Never used it and that's where you get some real time traffic alerts in the area and Google started learning about these upcoming closures without relying on ways users that's normally how ways works it's you know say peer to peer giving notifications it within this particular app and so this information is key if you're evacuating ahead of the hurricane and then Google is also going to help you navigate around close roads in the aftermath of the storm now let me just tell you some of your using Google ways. And you actually get a server error a lot of folks are reporting this. What you want to do is actually close the app restart it and don't make your route like your whole trip make it like a short like halfway point because so many people are using the app right now that the servers are getting overwhelmed and again the way to do that close the app restart it and then just make a shorter route instead of a longer route now another app has been around for years we've actually spoken about it many times here on the can command a show it's number 2 right now in the App Store and it's the app called Gas Buddy and if you're near stations that don't have any gas or power you just head over to Tracker dot Gas Buddy dot com We're going just fire up the app. To show you the stations the gas stations that don't have gas they may have no power when you select find gas near you now there's also a quick reporting button if you're close to a gas station it's going to prompt you does this gas station have any gas or power and you click on this button to report the gas yes or power situation within that particular area now there's also another app that a lot of people have been talking about it it's actually a throwback to technology it's a little walkie talkie app it's called Zelo. And the big question is will it actually work during the hurricane it's it's actually a free app it was made popular by delivery drivers in London and it basically turned your smartphone into a kind of a walkie talkie so this way you could talk to family members friends coworkers you could join an existing group say of helpers or rescuers Zillah will provide one way one person at a time communication just like a walkie talkie was used by the rescuers in Houston during Hurricane Harvey's matter of fact that technology is a throwback. They say that they have a potential breach you have to listen to this number 143000000 consumers Oh my gosh that's like almost everyone right the population the u.s. Was 324000000 in 2017 Now here's the kicker folks that you have to listen to Equifax says that they discovered this breach on July 29th. So while ago isn't it well this is where it gets really interesting s.e.c. Filing show that 3 Equifax executives. Co-incidence the chief financial officer John gamble Jr the Workforce Solutions president Rodolfo player and oh and the u.s. Information solutions President Joseph of long grand they sold about $2000000.00 in shares in the company days after the cyber attack was 1st discovered now they say it's unclear whether their shares that were sold had anything to do with the breach but when this news hit shares of Equifax fell about 12 percent in after hours trading So what exactly did the bad guys get just about everything names birthdates Social Security numbers addresses driver's license numbers. 209000 u.s. Credit card numbers were obtained Let's see we also certain dispute documents with personal identifying information not sure that that is 182000 so it's really nasty of someone get their hands on this information then call the bank they can then who they are they know you are they know everything now Equifax says they are going to be alerting customers who whose information was included in the bridge they're going to send you a letter in the mail Wow isn't that helpful so what you have to do is just assume the worst assume that the criminals have your home address all your credit card numbers your Social Security number your employment history your salary half the country possibly more are victims of this breach and like Yahoo Equifax management failed to tell anyone for over a month now you have to know that cyber criminals have already begun using this stolen data so well here's what you need to do immediately checked your personal credit reports with the 2 Equifax competitors that's Experian and also Trans Union you want to look for any I'm authorized activities I don't click don't download anything that mentions Equifax because the phishing scams are going to start immediately also the Facebook scams are going to start immediately and I know you hate to do it but you have to change passwords to everything I know nightmare I do it to break there with you and always check your bank statements your credit card statements for any charges that you didn't make no matter how small a lot of times they these hackers and criminals they make really small charges on your accounts because this way you don't really notice it like you know a $1.99 sometimes even just like $0.49 but that's where you know that they're actually trying to ping the account to see if that credit card number and all the information that they have is valid. Well but when you start talking about virtual assistants of course everybody knows about Apple's Siri and then you have Microsoft Cortana you have Amazon Alexa you have Google assistant and the whole idea is that all this technology is going to make your life so much better and so much easier so that this way when you want something you can say Alexa find me the Kim commando show or a Siri I'd like you to text mom and then of course just now all throughout the country everybody's devices suddenly just woke up and these are settings that you actually have to invoke Ross meaning that you can turn off hey Siri by going into your settings and into general and and you can turn that off so that the so that she's not always listening or your gadget isn't always listening because in order for you to wake up the gadget the gadget does have to always be tuned in to you right and so today's sophisticated microphones you know I'll tell you about something else in just a 2nd because it does get kind of crazy so you can turn that off now like Amazon for example they say that they've all. We recorded like a couple of seconds before you say Alexa and a couple of seconds after so that this way they get the full command. But it is something with if you have an echo and you open up the Alexa have and you look at a section called managed recordings and under those manage recordings you can see everything that Amazon has recorded when you go in there it's not just like Alexa play eighty's music when I went into my Amazon Alexa managed recordings you may have heard me talk about hear this on the show because I was shocked I was really just shocked at the recordings that were on there because it had nothing to do with the weather the traffic some of these recordings had information that I was kind of creeped out about that it was the recording leg it was me talking to Barry about you know whether or not we should accept a letter of intent on a commercial building or old studios that we had for sale and so what you can do is if that those concerned you can turn off the microphone on Alexa you can turn off a story. But as you keep installing apps and if you don't look at the terms and conditions is that these apps actually well as for permission for a microphone say a flashlight app and it definitely does not need access to your microphone but it is getting more pervasive and yes they are listening quote unquote all the time they say they're all in listening for those wake commands but there's a technology called Silver push I don't know if you've heard about this but still report. Aread this week's privacy test is really something that you need to pay attention to because there are so many apps and so many things in our lives that promise us privacy right you have self destructing text messages you have snap chat that says you know it's going to pop up on the screen and then immediately and goes away you have people that are maybe doing things on their phones and they're not really thinking it through completely in time by maybe if you're sexting on your phone or maybe you're in some type of domestic dispute and you want to start recording things or you don't think that the other person is recording things and the reason why I bring this up is that of course you've always been able to take pictures of anything that you see on your phone and but in the case a snap chat if you did take a screenshot of what's on the phone is that the recipient or the person on the other side actually get a message and says hey you know Kim just took a picture of your step Well not so much anymore I have to tell you about a new feature and I o s the 11 that lets you record anything I mean anything thanks photos videos on your phone it's called the screen recording feature and basically can capture video of anything that's on the screen and then automatically save it to the camera roll and it's dead simple to use basically or just in a swipe up and then you've got the record button to go bang go hit record and then it's done and then it's right there in your camera roll and you can also enable the microphone Audie you know when you're recording too so of course there's always legitimate uses for screen recordings tutorials or if you haven't trouble with your phone you can record exactly was going wrong and then send it to somebody in x. Hi hello how are you I'm good what's going on. I have teenagers and we have all i Phones and they you know done the sex thing despite me and. I know getting things on the Internet that they aren't supposed to that inappropriate taking pictures and I'm trying to find the right what I call. The right app that gives me when they're on their phone that I can immediately if I see that they're on it to pop it so that they can continue on that app I have it's a you know when you're in a tough place and when you have 3 or 2. But you have 3 and how are they all like 1516 I have to one is 15 when I will be 17 on only 2 of them haven't found. The other 112 and she didn't have fun yet but she well at any given moment she's going to get a phone. A kid get in trouble because they're sexting right or they're using an app or there's a new app about cyber bullying or whatever the case may be whenever I see something in the news like that it has to do with with his age group and the Internet and maybe even just like texting and driving in general whatever whatever it is that you want to drive that point home is that I take a copy of that link and I text you or Tom and say you know read this when you get a chance and he'll of course because it's always on his phone he'll hit that link and he'll read it and then invariably I get a text back that says something like oh don't worry about that I'll never do that love you. Well the whole idea is that I want him to be aware that it's not just him you know his mom and dad that are talent and not to do this stuff that there are ramifications of bad things that can happen if you get caught or if some a picture gets put into the wrong hands and maybe gets disseminated throughout the whole school and that was not the intention of course in the beginning but now of course it is and there's a lot of pressure there's a lot of peer pressure whether they're on Instagram or Snapchat I think more so than when we were growing up because when we were growing up.
