At eleven. Tough times for police and Fire Fighters in san jose. Tonight they update the community on Staff Shortages which affect the crime and Fire Fighting Services People rely on yet another pedestrian killed by a vehicle in san francisco. And tonight police are still trying to find the driver. Details next the city of san jose says. The number of Police Officers on the street is falling and falling fast. Heres the latest. Right now, there are 970 street ready officers. 905 of them are ready to deploy at any time. According to projections, by june of 2016, the department willhave 879 street ready officers. But in reality. Only about 800 will be available because of disability and military reasons. At this rate the number of officers in 2016, could dwindle to two thirds of the 1400 available in 2008. Thats the year budget restraints forced the city to make cuts. Tonight, the police and Fire Departments talked about these projections with people in the willow glen neighborhood. Police say, a woman in her 60s, was crossing the street, when the driver made a left hand turn. And hit her. Witnesses say, the driver then seemed to be making a uturn to come back. Investigators say, the driver is described as having short curly hair and light brown skin. And is either black or hispanic. As this map shows. This dam was built in the 1950s and its starting to show its age. A few years ago a study was done in the damn that same study concluded that if a magnitude 7. 2 or greater earthquake struck the nearby calaveras fault, this dam would essentially liquefy risking a major water release from the reservoir and putting the people who live below the dam in danger. In order to fix the problem, the district wants to drain the reservoir and retrofit the damn starting in 2015, but california and the bay area are facing a Third Straight year of Drought Conditions and theres concern that if the dry weather persists. Draining this key water supply could be a bad decision. The district says that Anderson Reservoir will remain in use for the rest of this year and that if the drought continues, they could delay the work. It is possible that the drought occurring at the time when we had been planning to start this project could pose a big water supply problem. So we are currently assessing what kind of parameters we would use to either go or not go with the project any decision would need approval from both state and federal regulators.
