Officials say this is a case about fighting overseas, not about plotting attacks here at home. The Justice Department says a 22yearold man from iraq aws Mohammed Younis al jayab was arrested while he was living in sacramento accused of lying to immigration authorities. The fbi says when he was questioned in 2014 about whether he was ever connected to a terror group he told them he went to turkey a year before to visit his sick grandmother. In fact, the grandmother says he went to syria to fight with various terrorist organizations, first apparently against the assad regime. A second iraqiborn man was also arrested, 24yearold Omar Faraj Saeed Al hardan who lives in houston accused of providing support to isis by getting to syria. Sacramento man asking how he could join with jawedihadists overseas and hes denied of having any connection to terror organizations when he applied for u. S. Citizenship in 2014. As you know, both men came to the u. S. As refugees. Officials say al jayab, the man in sacramento, had already been syria once when he came here and no suggestion that al hardan, the texas man, was radicalized when he came here 17 years ago as a refugee. The president ial race, donald trump held his first rally in vermont last night blocks actually from democrat Bernie Sanders campaign headquarters. The event drew a lot of supporters and protesters. Peter, good morning reporter town of burlington, vermont, was on edge anticipating trumps visit, handed out thousands more tickets than they had seats. Vermont, of course, is a deep blue state, not typical trump territory, and the candidate spent a lot of his night battling protesters. In the liberal bastion of burlington, vermont, Bernie Sanders country, the trump show felt more like the set of jerry springer. Trump, trump, trump reporter repeatedly interrupted by protesters the republican frontrunner taunted his unwelcome guests. Get them out. Get them out. Confiscate his coat. I was with president clinton on the campaign trail yesterday and a number of reporters asked him about trumps criticism of him. The fact that he keeps bringing infidelities when he was in office. Heres how president clinton answered one question. Donald trump is again today making an issue of your past transgression. Do you want to respond and are you worried your past could hurt your wifes campaign . I dont have a response. If he went to the if he wins the republican nomination well talk about it. Theyre going to do it when it seeks them. Does it help you as a democrat . Does it help the democrats in the election to elevate donald sometimes they want to engage with him on everything. When america thinks about the Republican Party they want to think about donald trump. On an issue like this, they want to step aside. Nicole, trump is going after bill clinton on his infidelities and trans depressions personally. Is that smart politics and if it is why arent the other republicans following suit . I think all the standards and rules have been burned and discarded in this campaign season. Trump is already the dominate figure in the Republican Party. The notion that theres any other republican standards, thats a good scale. Trump has prevailed in the minds of the viewers and the voters. So when people see these attacks determinations which is so anti clinton of the 90ser wra, the whole strategy of Rapid Response and responding to every attack was pioneered by bill clintons advisers, legendary advisers from the 90s. We are at the lowest murder rate in our country. All time low of murders. Were at an all time high of gun ownership, right. Im not necessarily saying the two are correlated but what im saying is were at an all time low for murder rate. Thats a big deal. If you look at where are the areas of high gun ownership, those are the places in some cases where the crime rate hasnt dropped down and some places where theres stiff restrictions on gun ownership. Some of those places the crimes drop really quickly. So im not sure theres a one to one correlation there. The president acknowledged his latest executive actions will not stop all attacks. Progress. When you put yourself in a box you make it so thats the only thing that matters. You forget whether the world is slowing down economically. The Federal Reserve has to get off the game of being strict and tight. The numbers are not baring up rather than strong employments. I know youre careful about choosing your words and in the past you have come on the show and said its a time to sell. Would you say that again about this time . No, i think those times have come on and i did have a voice and big decline. Risk. Here we have to take some pain but i think this too will pass and anyone who panics now is going to be able to try to figure out how to get back in. I wont play that with peoples money at home. Matt from our o filiation in philly has the latest on the investigation. Matt, good morning. Reporter good morning, savannah, both the officer and suspected shooter are in the hospital this morning. The officer was rushed to surgery late last night and faces a long recovery. This Morning Police are investigating the shooting of an officer who miraculously survived a shot at point blank range. Im shot. All cars stand by, we have an officer shot 60 and spruce. The officer got in a shoot out with a man who police say walked up to the officer while he was sitting in his police car opening fire with a 9 millimeter gun shooting at the officer 13 times. It gets closer and closer to the point where hes actually inside the car firing at the officer. The suspect hitting the bullet holes riddling one side of the police cruiser, police have not relesionedased the video they captured but describe it as horrific. This is one of the scariest things weve seen. This guy tried to execute the Police Officer. The Police Officer had no idea he was coming. Its amazing he was alive. The 33yearold officer returned fire hitting the suspect. Be advised officer hes a five year veteran and suffered a broken arm and nerve damage after being hit. He was taken to Presbyterian Hospital for surgery overnight. This speaks to the dangers of this job and why somebody would do something so absolutely evil is beyond us. Reporter we are hoping to learn a little more later on today as the Investigation Continues with the questioning of the suspect and perhaps a look at that Surveillance Video that supposedly shows this officer barely making it out alive. Matt, thank you. The mother of the socalled affluenza teen is in texas this morning where shell be arraigned. Tonya touch had been held in Police Custody in los angeles last week. Prosecutors investigated whether ethan couch violated his probation. The two were arrested in mexico late last month although ethan couch remains at a detention center, the sheriff is confident of his return. United Airlines Plane was forced go make an Emergency Landing if detroit when a passenger became unruly. This is cell phone video from inside the plane. Airline Officials Say the woman assaulted several of the other passengers. Police had to board the plane and carry her off with her hands and feet bound. This one claims that the charge hr and the surge model fitbits do not accurately track your heart rate, something that can be critical when youre working out. Its one of the seasons most popular holiday gifts, a gadget to help you keep that new years resolution of getting into shape and staying healthy. But now the makers of fitbit are coming under fire. Im a mom. I like to work out, like to be fit. Kate mcclellan has a phd in physical rehab and is one of the people suing the company claiming the heart monitor doesnt work and the ad telling customers every beat counts is misleading. My heart rate was only 114 and that did not make sense to me. Thats kind of what it would be if i was walking on the treadmill and maybe an incline reporter after comparing the fitbit heart rate monitor to equipment on her gym she said she new something was wrong and spoke to fitbits customer service. She made it sound like it was my fault, like i was wearing it wrong or i was using it wrong and she said its not really meant to track your heart rate all of the time. In a statement a spokesperson for fitbit says we do not believe this case has merit. Fitbit stands behind its Heart Rate Technology and strongly disagrees with the statements made in the claim and plans to vigorously defend the lawsuit. Fitbit trackers are designed to provide meaningful data to help users reach their health and fitness goals and are not intended to be scientific fitness or medical devices. It doesnt count every beat. It cant. Its wildly inaccurate. They are seeking a class action status saying the customer is treating customers unfairly noting that in order to even use the device you must log in to fitbits website and after youve already bought it. You cant even use it as a watch to tell what time it is unless you register it on the website and thats when you have to agree to all of these terms. This registration includes an agreement that mcclellans lawyers say prevents customers from taking certain legal action against the company. They are told that they are bound by this arbitration clause and class action ban. Well, thats unfair. Fitbit says their agreement has already been upheld in a California Court and according to their website customers have 30 days to opt out of the arbitration agreement, and while many users stepping up to support the device, lighting up social media and posting four and fivestar reviews on amazon, others are telling this perfect holiday gift to take a hike. This lawsuit just the latest headache for fitbit. The companys stock has dropped 20 after their latest product, the fitbit blaze, left investors we all have various tracking devices. Reporter its a new policy in the School District. Where students can buy lunch on credit. The School Started handing out alternative lunches to students who hoe more than 25. The school says it notified families of the change last year but its now just enforcing it. None of the students who received and alternate lunch would speak on camera. Sierra posted this photo of the sandwich on social media calling it absolutely mortifying. I was sitting there thinking do i have enough money, am i going to be able to get this right . Is everyone going to see and wonder why i cant get a normal tray too. The post has now been shared nearly 800 times and drawn hundreds of comments. We talked about this making this film and in in the end it was all worth it theres some sequences in this movie that i think are Ground Breaking cinematically. I mean, what you want as an audience member is to submerge yourself in a completely different reality. In the revenant that reality is the wilderness of the American West in the 1820s. Leonardo dicaprio plays hugh glass, a battered frontiersman seeking revenge against a fellow explorer, the film shot authentically under brutal winter conditions. What about it grabbed you . The director. Yeah, i keep saying thats oscar winning director alejandro inreceiptu who last year wouldnt Academy Award for directing bird man and now hes in the conversation again for revenant. The movie because of you and why did you think leo was the right man to play hugh glass . I thought and now as a fact i know that there was not a better choice. I think hes an amazing baht body of work, a testimony of how great and accurate it is. Without somebody as leo so brave and encouraging, i needed a partner, i didnt need just a great actor. Was there any point, leo, where youre wearing 100 pounds of fur standing in a frozen of course. Where you looked at him and said what the hell are we doing . I think everyone said that on a daily basis, the entire cast. At least. Pretty much.
