They somehow got away. Around 10 00, the suspect exchanged gunfire near confusion hill on highway 1 in mendocino county. The Sheriffs Department responded. Chased the car, lost it, until deputy Dell Fiorentino found it on that dirt road in the town of cleone. A Fort Bragg Police lieutenant came upon the scene and exchanged fire with cheney. We assume the suspect escaped during our search a couple hours later, it was learned that the lieutenant struck and killed the suspect. Reporter napa highs retired football coast and his wife marshall proudly showed me a team photo of Ricky Dell Fiorentino as its star lineman. At 61, and weighing roughly 250 pounds, the couple describes him as a man with a big laugh, a big smile, and most of all, a big heart. He was just naturally strong, but he was just a gentle giant. Everybody on campus loved him. He was a great player. He was the best lineman i ever coached. Reporter he earned a full wrestling scholarship to the university of oklahoma, and later moved to mendocino county, where he became a sheriffs deputy. He was inducted into the napa high hall of fame in 1998. It was the way Dell Fiorentino treated others that left an impact on his coach. Authorities say it was the couples 14yearold daughter who made the discovery. That girl is now in protective custody, along with her 8year old sister. A horrifying ordeal for a 66yearold woman on the peninsula. Police say she was held captive at gun point for more than a day, while a robber withdrew thousands of dollars from her bank account.
