Hes saying about obamacare suggesting to the wall street journal hes considering keeping parts of it. He expanded on those thoughts in his post election interview with 60 minutes. Reporter are you going to make sure people with preexisting conditions are still covered . Yes. It seems to be one of the strongest assets, also the children living with their parents, very much trying to keep that. Adds cost, but its very much something were going to be a period if you repeal it and before you replace it when millions could lose. Were doing it simultaneously. Were going to replace it. Were not going to have a two day period. Were not going to have a two year period where theres nothing. Trump also spoke about his former rival Hillary Clinton and their post election phone call. Halftime at the university of colorados opener tonight paid tribute to the mother of bucks king was awarded chief Master Sergeant which is the highest enlisted rank in the air force. Today president obama delivered veterans day remarks at Arlington National cemetery for unity. We can practice kindness. We can pay it forwarvolunteer. We can serve. We can respect one another. We can always get each others backs. That is what veterans day asks all of to us think about. Vice president elect mike pence visited his homestate in indiana d president elect trump would work to reform va healthcare. This day, veterans day, is a day reserved more than any other on the calendar for celebrating, honoring and recognizing those who served our country. Tonight we will show you part of a series of documentaries produced by our sister station in atlanta. The stories are raw. We start with a soldier from fort carson who ran into problems after he went awol general absence of all logic. Surprisingly they dont stop themselves. The transition from military service to veteran, general absence of all logic. Its about being a smart, fast, legal and precise soldier. You im now im the good guy. Kill or be killed. The moment you drop your guard youre done. They train you how to go through your deployment, but they dont train you how to go home. Weave just got to do more for weve just got to do i love the military. I always knew i was going to go. In i served in the 506 infantry regiment, the band of brothers. . [ music ] . I think i just came to a head and i snapped. About six months went by that i just dont remember much, the physical problems, headaches and not sleeping, the pages and passing out or blacking the pains and passing out or blacking out, not wanting to tell anyone thats happening. The va for all these years would tell me youre not a veteran and then theyd want to see my actual paperwork and so they see the hard copies in front of them and then tell you not. Sorry, you cant come in. Disgrace is the biggest understatement ever. If someone comes to us who served in the military who is a veteran, but they have an other than Honorable Discharge, we are by law not allowed to treat them. Congress sets the terms on who were allowed to treat and what the Eligibility Criteria are. They volunteered to serve. They didnt volunteer to get ptsd. I feel like battle. Were just battling the military and he may look okay and he may function okay, but they dont know what we deal with. I had faith that as an american our soldiers would be treated and that their injuries would be compensated for. I was naive because i believed in the system. The system doesnt work. Its a broken system. Intelligent, fun loving son. Hes been taken from us. And i miss that. . [ music ] . When you got word that it would be upgraded, how did you find out . By letter. I wanted to call everyone and brag and then strangle those that yeah, i mean it was not quite retribution, not quite relief, but awesome because i knew from that day i would get better. I guess. . [ music ] . I was a sergeant before my 21st birthday. I was really good at my job. Taking photos of dead bodies was not the one thing that left me with posttraumatic stress disorder, hearing explosions in the distance and the knowing if my friends if my friends were dead, getting shot at from who knows where and bullets bouncing off the vehicle next to me. I was punished for attempting suicide. I mean they had threatened at 1 point to charge me with damaging Government Property meaning myself which is ridiculous. A pattern of misconduct generated from ptsd is not dishonorable conduct. Could you imagine missing the first year of your childs life to serve in combat and then to be told by the va youre not a veteran . And a veteran who has an other than Honorable Discharge who is not allowed to get treatment at the v av who is more likely to be without at the va who is more likely to be without a job, who is more lik homeless who cant get a diagnosis from the va who dont qualify for healthcare, how are they supposed to prove they have ptsd if the va locks them out . The medical expert that they had in the room was an orthopedist. Reporter an orthopedist was the medical expert. That makes no sense. It does to the army. They were following the letter of the law at the time. Reporter why not a dermatologist . Exactly. So i was there contending that posttraumatic stress disorder and depression were the reasons why i attempted suicide and an orthopedist decided that that wasnt a legitimate case. Tomorrow night well continue this series here on 9news. The next part will look into whatis change to help americas veterans and the plan that only has a few weeks left for congress to make it a law.
