However, they could still let 11th graders this year take the act since they have been prepping for it. Another thing legislators did in the latest session is to reduce the amount of standardized testing in the state. That is also part of a National Initiative signed by president obama. Its called the every child succeeds act. President obama signed this into law in december. What this law does is it essentially replaces the no child left behind act, which was signed in 2002 by president the george w. Bush. President obama said that no child left behind had good intentions, but it really kind of went off tracking when it comes to standardized testing. The new act basically takes away some of that standardized testing. It still requires starting in the third grade, but states really have more power, more say failure. States can intervene in schools that are underperforming. The act mandates that states work with the lowest 5 of help them to achieve their goals. It says that states and schools can set those different standards and look at things that are nonacademic factors and academics as well in terms of determining a schools success, not just on those standardized tests. We are seeing a shift nationally and locally in those efforts to get beyond the standardized test in terms in determining School Success and in terms of making sure that students achieve.
