Looking here in the predawn sky you see a few breaks in the overcast. We have solid clouds over us right now. Visibility is not terrible around here. It does decrease on the west and Northwest Side of town. Last night showers were up into nebraska. We had some moderate rain overnight. Going to be dealing with here this morning but very Cool Temperatures in the 40s, so if youre outside working today things looking very good for the early part of the day and then late this afternoon especially 3, 4, 5 00 get a couple of thunderstorms here with some moderate rain and even a little bit of small hail and the reason i mention hail is because right now the freezing level starting to drop a little bit here as we get into the tail end of summer. Its just easier to get the to fall all the way to the ground. Were also watching out for some wet roads on the drive this morning. Some of those up on the Northwest Side of town especially near boulder. South Southeast Side looks to be dry this is i225. Still very good speeds along 225 this morning. If youre traveling southbound speeds averaging about 60 Miles Per Hour. The drive is going to take you 11 minutes minutes to travel i70 to i25. Drive about 9 minutes long this morning. No major accidents on the road. It looks like were starting to see minor slow downs through 270 and a stall on northbound i25. Not causing any major issues though. Well have another update coming up. In the news today the husband of the bus driver killed in that crash at dia on sunday says that he wishes he could be with the students and the staff he wants to support them. His wife was taking the schools Football Team back to campus when the crash happened on sunday. Were joined live from the school this morning. The husband has just as many questions as all of us. Reporter and he said he couldnt sleep ever since he found out about this didnt because it was so puzzling. Investigators thought this may have been a medical condition they made an extra loop at the airport before going off the road and hitting the pillar. No one noticed anything strange before hand. Certainly a lot for investigators to try to figure out and also a lot for her husband to try to figure out as well. He is clearly heart broken trying to figure out what may have happened here. Again he said that his wife suffered no medical issues. She wasnt taking any medication. She wasnt being treated for anything and recently passed a health exam. His story breaking to hear as he continues to look for answers. And he said yesterday when he found out about this he had a gut feeling something was wrong i kept calling my wifes phone saying it cant be but i just few deep down inside i just had this feeling. I just wanted to know what happened. I want to know what happened. Its hard for me to to not know. Yeah, you can imagine how difficult it must be for them. Hoping to get to the bottom of that as well. The superintendent of the school actually sent a letter to the entire district saying in part that the entire community is standing together and that he is very proud of how this community has come together and surrounded Legacy High School. Absolutely he should be. All right. Thank you much for that. 3 Legacy High School football coaches are s the accident. The school does have a home coming game coming up this friday. Were going to find out today whether or not it will still be played. The School Community isnt focused on that right now though instead theyre throwing their support behind the injured coaches as well as her family. Every day of home coming week as a theme. After sundays crash the students took it upon themselves to change things. It was supposed to be sports to legacy because of what happened. School shirts and colors were worn proudly and the hashtag legacy strong as spread across social media even in california where the students that the Football Team played a couple of days ago. The fog and clouds out its nice for the middle of the day we will bring showers back mostly for the front range Central Mountain and then through the western valleys throughout the afternoon and evening. Thats where well have the best pockets of rain throughout the rest of the day today. Warmest temperatures in western colorado near 0 degrees, for many mountain locations 60s and low 70s, similar to what were going to see right here in eastern partly sunny by midday and a round of afternoon evening storms should begin to taper off shortly after sunset later tonight. It will stay cloudy and foggy overnight into tomorrow though i think we clear up earlier tomorrow which allows us into the mid70s. I like our chances for storms tomorrow. They pick back up friday before the weekend warms up and appears to dry out. Wet spots on the roads especially if youre up around boulder you need to watch out for that. Other parts of town look very good. This is the north end of town as youre coming down from 104th along i25. A little bit more volume out there but no major delays in fact those drive times on that north stretch from e 470 to southbound i25 about 13 minutes with speeds averaging around 59 Miles Per Hour. That being said i am seeing what looks to the major highways its on 52nd though at sheridan. No major slowdowns in the area but we could see those build up. Her owner says that visiting patients even for i get their life and i can hear the stories about their childhood and family and parents and all the wonderful stories. To me volunteering is just kind of my whole existence. He says he enjoys the visits as much as the patients do. And im sure the horse does too. Im sure the horse likes you a the intention. So my friends that are close to the tech center thats going to cause you some minor delays. Theres that morning. Also 225 starting slow down for a lot of folks. Southbound speeds down to 40 Miles Per Hour from i70 to i25. That drive is going to take you 16 mines. Still looks good northbound, we also have a couple of wet spots on the road and thats affecting northwest with side of town we take a look at some of the cameras in just a few minutes. Were live out at the school this morning and sundays crash has caused some big changes to the schools home coming week. Repter it has. That is up in the air right now as officials take a closer look at the players and the coaches and determine whether or not they are both mentally and physically fit. Of course right now of course the focus of the School Community is all about the family of the bus driver who passed away and also the 3 coaches who remain in the hospital with some of the more serious injuries. Yesterday we saw a tremendous response students who are supporting or wearing excuse me School Colors in support of their classmates also using the hashtag legacy strong on social media as well. Big response interest that. And they will did this. They told us to write a message, an inspiring message pass around the school and hopefully it makes its way back to the football players. Reporter so again the 3 coaches are continuing to were told that that game does if that game does happen it will be the defensive coordinator who steps up as the interim chief but were going to have to wait to see whether or not that game is actually going to happen today. And today were focussing on policemen and women who put their lives on the line every day. One officer who despite his own recovery is finding a way to give back. Working on streets in december of 2014. He had more than a dozen surgeries, still has limited movement in his left arm because of nerve damage although hes still recovering he did return to work at the end of august and is now looking forward. I really dont think a lot about the incident. I think about where my future goals are and where i want to be a year from now. Yeah, he not but is looking to help other officers who have been injured on the job. Hes created a nonprofit and is hosting the rise and run 5k this week towed raise money. This year the police will honor Denver Police officer lopez junior. He was shot 4 times. Well talk with him live at 7 15 on channel 20. I tweeted out that every time i see a Police Officer i thank them for all they do for protecting us and tell them there is no way i could ever do your job. So grateful that there are men and women out there that are willing to do this job. Well continue some of these kaepernick is firing back this morning after he accused the 49er of selfishness. He was joined by a teammate during the anthem on monday night football. On sundays nfl count down it was said his job is to be quiet appeared sit in the shadows. He called it quote ridiculous. Several players also raised broncos linebacker marshal took a knee before the anthem. It has already cost him several sponsorships but says that wont stop him from doing it again this sunday. Hes meeting with with denvers police chief today. Yes, he is and thats important because part of this silent protest was in response to treatment of my more rate tees by police and thats a statement that kaepernick made when he decided not to stand since then weve seen other athletes join the protest including marshal. Now, all eyes were on him thursday night. Marshal played in college with kaepernick and he says he prayed about it and thinks it was the right decision to join the protest. Hes posted a lot of the feedback on twitter thats also where he made the announcement yesterday that hes been offered a meeting with Denver Police chief robert ask his followers to submit questions to the police chief. Hes telling fans to use the hashtag ask the chief. Marshal says hell pick person questions and pose them to the chief. Number 54 has been in the middle of this controversy since deciding to join the protest and says hes got a lot of hateful responses. People have commented or saying they wish id break my neck all they want. Even during his protest he says hes donating money to veterans groups and hell have less money coming in. His protests have cost him 2 scholarships both century link and air Academy Credit union have dropped him. Well, at least hes doing something positive here with meeting with denvers police chief talking to him hoping to make that relationship stronger. And i think thats what some of those players wanted to get at, something deeper, a bigger conversation than just them. That, but if you go o his twitter page you see hes been posting a lot negative and positive about how he feels and some of the comments hes been getting. I think where you draw the line are the hateful very meanspirited and violent comments that hes been getting. I think that complete the point of what hes trying to say. I think his conversation with the police chief could go a long way. Somebody sent me a tweet that a lot of people in the stands arent paying attention during the anthem. There are a lot of criticisms that can be taken. Coming from a military family i make my children stop and stand and we dont do anything else. People saying they feel its appropriate to do what they for sure, yeah. These National Anthem protests have not yet spread to other major sports like baseball. Baltimores outfielder is making waves for his comment why that may be. He says he supports the protest. He says baseball is quote a white mans sport. He tried to clarify those comments monday night. Theres nothing about racist i just stated the simple fact. The career of baseball is numbers. I didnt make that up. And football and basketball then the 60s and 70s. These respect made up numbers. T it is. And thats im part of the 8 . Jones says he choose to say stand for the National Anthem for many reasons including the fact that both his dad and brother served in the military. So its getting to that point of time where weve got quite a few things going on this morning. And folks are going to have to scramble to get around that closure. For us it is foggy. We had some showers overnight that have left many areas damp. Those storms are now up in nebraska. Well have a bit of clearing before more thunderstorms return. So by lunchtime you get some sun. So if youre in direct sunlight it will be comfortable if youre in the shade it may feel chilly this afternoon. Thunderstorms return for us this afternoon and this evening. The overnight rain generally gave us a 10th of an inch or less. During the afternoon we could see a quarter to half an inch of rain thats a nice downpour in a few areas. And when the clouds build back in we start dropping temperatures down late in the day. Well see some midday clearing. Thunderstorms start in western, central colorado and the front range, fairly quiet over the Eastern Plains for the rest of the day today as clouds settle in but showers really dont pick back up there. Moderate rain for the front range through central colorado and down out along the Colorado River late this afternoon and evening. It will be warmest in the valleys pretty close to 80, 60s and 70s for the east. Today 69, midday sun, afternoon storms pretty big storms in a few location up and down the i25 corridor here. Through sunset it remains cloudy overnight a foggy start but the fog leaves earlier tomorrow. We jump to the 70s, i like our storms again for tomorrow less so on thursday, and rain chances pick up again on friday afternoon. Top stories that were following today.
