This morning and wind chills are in the teens. We will keep the few snow showers and the nw winds and highs will aim for the mid 20s to low 30s this afternoon. We have a little more snow and a lot more cold in the forecast. Ill have that for you in a few minutes. This morning, we begin with a Winter Wonderland of sorts. The snow piled up all over eastern iowa and this morning, many of you will be getting your first look at how much added up outside. Keep in mind streets could still be slick. The city of dubuque had crews out taking care of primary and secondary streets. Dubuque has a lot of hills. Which makes things even trickier for drivers. I couldnt make it to the top. I was spinning and trying to make going up. The dubuque area yesterday. The Dubuque CountySheriffs Office says a 14 yearold was pinned under a car after a crash. It happened yesterday morning on highway 61. The car went into a ditch a rolled. The teenager was taken to the hospital with injuries to his legs. The boys father was ticketed for failing to maintain control. The roads were slick at the time. The roads were dangerous in other parts of iowa. Take a look at this suv on its side near davenport. At this point, we dont know if anyone was hurt in that crash. We do know drivers there had to deal with snow, freezing rain, ice and the wind. Iowa was not alone with the winter mess. Far from it. There were serious crashes because of the weather stretching from oklahoma to oregon. This gives you an idea of what many highways were shut down. But this morning they are oklahoma. Good luck getting a flight in this mess. Thats what many passengers were told yesterday and they could face some of the same frustrations today. About three thousand flights into out of or across the us were cancelled and almost five thousand were delayed because of the large storm system. Many of the Flights Canceled or delayed were at chicagos two main airports or in dallas. Up as being available for purchase, point because its not showing up as canceled. I didnt get anything saying it was canceled. This morning, we checked in on the eastern iowa airport. Flights seemed to be running on time. The Severe Weather system that has already caused tremendous damage bringing blizzard conditions to the west and more flooding to the middle and plains states monday. In missouri, rain continued, sending already swollen rivers surging over their banks. I am worried. I dont know what to do. Oklahoma residents forced to cope with both flood and blizzard warnings. One man had to to walk to safety through freezing water. I gather my things and i make the trek for about half a mile or so in water thats about waisthigh. The cold temperatures and high water were a bad combination. Stood in that water for about three hours waiting for them to get here the list of weatherrelated longer. Two men have been pulled from water in georgia the widow of one clearly grieving. Im going to be so lost without him. The storm is expected to continue moving northeastward tuesday. Temperatures this morning are holding in the 20s with upper teens to low 20s off to the west. Winds are much lighter. They are mainly 5 to 15 mph and should stay manageable through the day and die down tonight. The strong low is dying out as it tracks through the great lakes, but we will keep a lobe of it tracking through today providing a few snow showers. A weak disturbance will track in from the southwest tomorrow and squeeze out a few more snow showers. Accumulations should stay less than an inch between the two. Today we will have mostly cloudy skies with those stray snow showers.
