Mix. Youve got some snow and some rain. You can see that right here, where we just showed you the camera over atlantic city. Weve got little bit of fine mixing going on, as well. Temperatures close enough to the point, mile enough, i can see mixing taking place here. So you may see some slick travel in those locations too. And for what looks so innocent now, it is just not going to stay that way energy joins up with the storm, there is a roadblock setting up in the atmosphere to limit where this can actually go. And we are going to really start to see snow thump as the day goes on. Interesting, weve actually got coastal flood warnings now that take effect, later on tonight for the high tide cycle thats coming in even though this is a snowstorm you could definitely still have tidal flooding coming in, warnings posted, up and down the coastal communities. Meanwhile we look at what the winter storm alerts are around our region, further west you go, Winter Weather advisories, any winter storm watches have actually sort of shifted. Now talking winter storm warnings here. All of the counties shade in the pink philly included, all of southern new jersey, included. Up to the Lehigh Valley and poconos included. Why is ocean monmouth count not in it . Because you have blizzard warning, even worse for you here. Here is the essential gist. The further northeast you go, the worse it will be. Generally, if you are closer to the shore better shot for more snow than do you up toward the Lehigh Valley and inland through central pa. Kind of backwards when a lot of people think about how snow moves into our area. But there you have it. It is not just snow. It is definitely very windy conditions that will be picking up for us as well. Our noreaster timing in general, through the afternoon, the snow will continue through midday, general one to 3 inches, but winds starting to pick up. Tonight, and tomorrow morning early, is when the brunt is moving through so tomorrow mornings drive will very likely and lot worse than what we will find this morning but, as i send things out to meteorologist, Carol Ericson i am sure she can a test, definitely not a picnic out there. She with the cbs3 mobile weather lab, carol . You know, were at a car wash right now in spring city in chester county. Theyve not plowed here. A lot of people will be ending up in this spot though to get all of the brine and salt off their vehicles. Were right now a temperature of 26 degrees. And you can see that not much has been plowed on these roads out here. So justin to be very, very careful. You can see the street. You can see that weve got no salting down, but im not sure how much were slipping. I think we have to hopefully go slowly enough so if the light changes and will give good indication, are we slipping little bit . Were slipping little bit. Just know that that will be the problem out there. I want to take you out to the weather graphic right now. And just give you some snow timing and this is going to be not a great day to get out. So, this morning youve got a chance to do it, after that, not so much. Jess . Thank you carol. Good morning everybody 5 03. We go outside, check how things are doing out on 309. There is some snow cover and snow falling starting, and you can see that even perhaps happened overnight where the roadways are, we have salt crews out on the scene weve lot of things going on this morning, as well. But you can see not a lot in the way of volume out on 309. But everybody still moving great. Shiny roadways, though, right around bethlehem pike, the northbound lanes and snow pushed over into the shoulders and covering the center median, as well. Now over on 95 right around cottman avenue. Everything moving along great here as well. Not a lot in terms of volume. Southbound toward center city currently no problems, but you can see little bit shiny especially over into the shoulder there so we can always assume that that would be generally pretty slippery. Out in lower providence, accident at level road and york road. Out in plymouth another crash thats at Germantown Pike and jolly road. On 422 there is accident down therefore just little bit now westbound from the off ramp to limerick and linnfield. Thats actually involving a salt truck and normal vehicle. So far great alternates for today, patco, new Jersey Transit and dart all running on time with no delays, but definately keep you updated on, that currently no delays at the Philadelphia International airport. You definitely want to check with your airline to see if anything changes in the near future. Otherwise, travel times everything looking pretty good. So 95, from delaware into the blue route northbound, still pretty clear shot about eight minutes there. Blue route from 95 to the schuylkill northbound, still clear there about 19 minutes and 26 minutes out on the pa turnpike eastbound from vale forge into bensalem. Still even though those travel times are pretty much on time, we want you to leave a little earlier. Erika, back to you. Snow as katie mentioned already falling in the northwestern suburbs. Penndot though got a game plan. Our eye on the storm coverage continues right now with reporter jan carabeo. Shes in warminster bucks county with the conditions there. Jan, good morning. Reporter erika, good morning. Snow falling extremely lightly right now here in warminster bucks county. Coming to you live from the corner of county line road and york road. Couple of cars already out here this morning. Mostly weve seen some snow plows out with their blades up for the time being as well as a lot of salt trucks. That salt treatment is actually cleared out this intersection pretty good right now, not a lot of snow cover left, but definitely wet and slippery. So you want to take your time headed out on the roads here in bucks county. You can see though cars are making their way around with snot too much of a problem. Meantime penndot crews will have 400 trucks out on the roads today. Working on 12hour rotating shifts. They also have 90 tons of salt to work with, and they do expect to use all of that salt by the time this snowstorm is over. Take a look at the game plan. Take a listen. As we move into monday, and we will be monitoring the forecast very closely, and all indications will be that if we have a heavy accumulating storm, we will be bringing additional contractors to add to our compliment. So fully expect that it would be over 400 trucks as we move into monday evening. So penndot is prepared. Weve also been speaking with the other departments of transportation, in delaware, new jersey, as well. Everyone, geared up for what could be a very big storm obviously quiet this morning these roads not looking too bad, but if you see that wet that slick that shine, just expect it to be a little bit slippery this morning. And definitely if you dont have to be out penndot says just try to stay off the roads so the crews can do their work. Reporting live in warminster, jan carabeo cbs3 eyewitness news. Dis a periods when he got out of his parents car near lincoln drive. Forty year old father of three Multimedia Technology teacher at the middle school Bucks Institute of Technology Since 2002. Update on the storm. Even though were already seeing some precipitation this is really just a very, very small dose of what is yet waiting for us down the road here and essentially what will happen is this clipper start to gather moisture and energy and has a chance to significantly intensify, let me take you out there. First and for motion at the moment generally light snow light precipitation. I think it will extends down to delaware and new jersey too. Here is the added energy will sort of run the slope of the trough join up with the system and then un for the lip, remember the storm we had over the weaken, thats way off to the northeast now. But it is setting up an atmospheric roadblock. It doesnt want to go anywhere, still messing with us in the way of blocking the storm thats forming now from going anywhere, so weve got blizzard warnings posted from down east maine all the way down to our area, specifically ocean monmouth counties winter storm warnings though, what youre finding in philadelphia, southern new jersey, western new jersey, Lehigh Valley too. So the further inland you go, the lesser the snow totals will be generally, four to 8inch swat the expectation through delaware and western suburbs, i would be surprised if we didnt see anything, if we saw anything less than 6 inches in philadelphia, real good shot to get you up to foot worth of accumulation, snow starts to thump then generally 12 to 18 expectation, foot and a half as go in toward east and Central New Jersey morning commute isnt all that great either. Light snow falling. So icy travels slow travels very likely, but the brunt comes evening rush tonight through tomorrow morning, then starts to taper by wednesday it will be bright and sunny certainly cold and we will definitely have what looks to be a lot of clean up to do. Everything doing pretty great so far volume wise. It is still early at only 5 15 we go outside check out how things are doing on 202. You can see just like i said not much in the way of volume, but you can see some slippery spots right in there, some snow, covering some of the shoulders and center medians, so we know that there is a possible chance for the roadways to be little slippery on 202 right around the schuylkill. Over on the ben franklin bridge, everything looking great here sofas well. You can see not much in the way of volume headed westbound into the city. All lanes open, so it is a good thing still give yourself extra time before you head out the door. Out in lower providence yerkes road. Another crash, disable vehicle on 2995 southbound from the onramp to route one. Now, we have some speed restrictions starting already up to 45 miles per hour. Coming in bolt directions as women. Jim mel worth from kyw news radio 1060 is roaming around, in mobile three and king of prussia. Jim, looking at your shot right now. Tell us more . Yes well, im in king of prussia. That was collegeville. Where i am now it stopped snowing, parking lot has a light slushy coating as you head westbound on 422 out past collegeville into limerick. You saw some more, since about 4 00 though, 4 00 this morning a a lot of salt trucks hitting the roads doing real good job of clearing some of the packed down snow, putting down the salt, plowing off packed down snow. Where i am right now looking at 202 southbound, the expressway, and it is pretty much just wet. Hopefully that salt can do its job as were looking at temperatures in about the mid 20s here, so hopefully we dont see any freeze ups like we saw couple of weeks ago. Im sure youve seen the Transportation Department doing their thing out there . Absolutely. A lot of plow trucks out around 4 00 a. M. You saw them coming out like an army, just hitting all of these roads specially the majors, but also a loft secondary roads along the 422 corridor from what ive seen, done pretty good job early going. Jim mel werth lets do it. Now were not the only once getting slam pipe the storm. It could be so much worse. How theyre getting ready for whats called the potentially historic blizzard, just further up the northeast. Of course katie is tracking the snow already falling in the tristate area. Well do traffic and weather together on the 3s. And well do it on the other side. Be right back. In has been intensifying, showing signs of very powerful characteristics here throughout the course of the last few days. So, it is still yet to show its hand on us, but we have a good indication that this will be become just major noreaster, and bring some very significant snowfall totals. So at the point your snowfall and your rainfall is still warm enough for that, too still pretty light. Some of you are even in a little lull. Looking at one of the most robust computer models with this storm and there is a bulls eye, thankfully, not here but we are on the outskirts of where the worse of the storm will be. So were expecting i like the way this initialize z general six to 12 inches, through philadelphia, and then the totals starting to up dramatically as you even go just few counties over to the east and north this could end up ac storm that actually shuts down new york sit thats how bad it will bement meanwhile there are blizzard warnings that go into effect for ocean and monmouth counties, southern extent of the blizzard conditions. Here it is still pretty windy with the wind blown snow that well find specially tonight and early tomorrow morning travel will be incredibly hazardous, so poor visibility, snow covered roadways, the whole mixed bag generally just going to need to slow it down or dont even leave the house if you can help it. Jess, over to you. I think thats definitely good advice, thanks, katie. 5 24 definitely stay home if you can. If you do have to head out the door give yourselves extra time. Starting to see a lot of accident, speed restrictions all over the place but first we start off with good news out on route one, this is right before the blue route off ramp, these are the northbound lanes see salt trucks, and crews on the scene here trying to get everything, the roads prepared, and safe for commuters. Over on nine, a everything looking great as well. Starting to pick up just a little bit in volume here, the southbound lanes are where the tail light are. Headed toward center city so far there are real now problems. Few accident, to talk about on route 422 eastbound at keim street, an accident. New jersey, disable truck from the onramp to route one. So just slow it down, guys, ukee over to you. Pelicans have won three straight. Our report remembers monitoring the conditions all across the area right now. If youre getting ready to head outside. First, lets check in with katie updating the snow cast forecast. Yes weve made some tweaks to our exclusive eyewitness weather snowfall map folks. The newest guidance has come in still looking at some big snows out of this, but it may be a little less than what we had been looking at the possibility of since last night, so it is one of those evolving situations, folks and this is one of those storms that, man where did it come from . As we are looking at the weekend computer guidance, it just blew up out of no where. And we continue to see this clipper system that looks relatively modest, at this hour bring really just for half the region little bit of light snow. So as the day progresses here today, we are going to see that snow hang on through midday, in light form, but it will start to pick up with time. And it will start to be a system that gathers not just intensity but moisture. So once the snow starts to pick up heavily it will be thumbing across our area. Now, this is an interesting storm simply because when you think about the area and where you tend to get the big snows you think the poconos think the Lehigh Valley, right . Not this time. This time the heaviest snow will go to the east most counties. So especially through an ocean into Monmouth County where we actually will see blizzard warnings take effect, otherwise winter storm warnings around the area. Prunt of the storm tonight into tomorrow, generally the
