Coming up on 6 03, katie i know youre worried the skydeck would be icy along with roads and sidewalks. Yes absolutely, thankfully, somebody must have been kinds enough to salt it out here, because it is clear completely and in trudy think partly part of the help here was the fact that we saw that winds how long last night. Yes, it was how long. Lets be honest. And, in fact, what it helped to do before the temperatures came completely crashing down and froze everything back over we had chance to see some of the moisture evaporate. Now, not all evaporated. Out to storm scan, things still quietment handful of clouds here and there generally expecting sunny day however, but the temperatures took a huge tumble. Look at this. Even just in short span of couple of hours we went from the 40s to the 30s, 20s, now down into the teens. So, it is just frigid outside for us this morning. And that said, look at the difference in the last 24 hours, from this same time yesterday. You lost nearly 30 if not more than 30 degrees. So it will be very noticeable, bottom line. Meanwhile your tuesday forecast will feature sunshine, but it is going to be awfully cold, and really in every location, the thing is, with that breeze, still noticeable, maybe not as harsh as yesterday, it will make it feel that much colder. So be ready for that. If it looks wet, it is ice. Guaranteed. Jess, we sends into you. Thank you, katie. Good morning everybody yes definitely getting report of lots of slippery spots different roadways, with small dents starting to pop up. Definitely use caution when headed out the door. Good advice, 0 00, we start things off on 422 where we have some road crews here, trying get a sign that actually, i dont think is actually in the shot any more. Just zoomed in just a second ago, but is 422 around trooper road. Eastbound lanes and just ahead of this, one of the construction signs actually blew overdue to the winds throughout the morning. So thats actually blocking out the right hand lane. Also, in the work zone, so one lane getting by on 422 headed eastbound, over on 95, right around penns landing everything moving great, there as well, southbound, no problems, and no problems headed northbound either. But we do have Police Activity out in southwest philadelphia woodland avenue. Clothes that right around 65th street. You want to take greenway avenue, or paschall avenue to get on by. Also affecting septa route 11 trolley which now in shuttle passing passengers between island and 49th, erika back to you. Thank you jess. Lets get taught jan carabeo in east falls good morning. Reporter erika, good morning, lincoln drive here near wissahickon avenue reopened right around 4 00 this morning. Police had hoped to reopen the road before the morning rush, they certainly did that, and thats good news for everyone, who uses this road early morning, this road, again reopened at 4 00. The salt trucks came out to put another layer of salt in hopes this completely fixes one and for all this icing problem in the areament take look at the video what look to looked like down there, conditions, just short time ago a lot of water a lot of ice. Those conditions at this location have been problematic since yesterday. Road crews had to close lincoln drive last night because of the ice and police say the sewer couldnt take all of the runoff from yesterdays snow and rain, so water back up on to the road. Lincoln drive did reopen for short period last night but closed again after ice once again formed. With the temperature so cold this morning, you have been hearing everyone tell this all morning long, any water Still Standing on the roads will cause this problem. So penndot has about 50 trucks out here right now salting and responding to any left over icy areas. And here in philadelphia, the city has more than two dozen trucks out as well. But, crews and drivers ive spoke win this morning here, tell me at least in philadelphia, roads are looking pretty good. You know, actually, the roads are pretty good. Couple of side streets icy but the main roads are pretty clear. There is no ice. I havent seen any. Havent felt any. Feels good. But of course ice varies spot to spot. Yesterday on sprawl road radnor township a man was killed when wind and ice pulled a tree down on his car and then caused a crash. So the ice this morning is going to be hit or miss, but with temperatures this cold, with all of the moisture we saw yesterday, it is always worth the remind their could you run into some slick spots so just keep that in mind as you head out the door. Eyewitness News Reporter justin finch joins us now from the 12th District Police headquarters with the latest on this investigation. Justin, good morning. Good morning erika. Yes, police say, it is unsure at this time if that man will survive his injuries. Thats why it is key that they keep this scene open behind us at 65th and woodland, where this story came to an end this morning. They are focusing on that chevy malibu there, thats the car the victim drove here looking for help this morning. At about 1 30 this morning the driver showed up here, driving irradically, police say, with his headlight off. He met an officer going in for work. And told him he had been shot in the area of 65th and paschall. He says he heard at least three shots, and realized that he had been struck, as well. He was struck in his chest he says, and he drove here, again, looking for help. Well that sergeant got that man into his cruiser and drove him to penn hospital for treatment. And along the way he tried telling that officer what happened. Halfway between this location, 65th and woodland, and the hospital, the victim, who was talking then just became unconscious and hes presently still unconscious hes undergoing surgery and hes in very Critical Condition. As you heard there that mans condition is very serious, at this time, very critical looking now at the car that he drove here, you see those bullet wounds, or rather bullet holes rather, on the driver side of the vehicle, that man obviously struck at least one time in the chest. Police have also spoken to a witness this morning that person told police they saw a dark colored Dodge Charger perhaps black in color and new err model leaving the scene, no word, though, on the driver that may have been inside. That witness is now being interviewed by detectives, that sergeant, as well. If you heard or saw anything, you are urged to give police a call. We are live in southwest philadelphia, justin finch cbs3, Eyewitness News. Justin, thank you. Meanwhile, traffic is moving again on lincoln drive and east falls after a backed up drain turned water into ice. Philadelphia police say the drain could not handle runoff from yesterdays rain and snow. Penndot has about 50 trucks salting any icy spot. Meanwhile Radnor Township Police believe a falling tree led to a fatal crash. Investigators say that a man was driving southbound, on sprawl road yesterday evening when the tree crushed part of the cars roof. The driver was killed. Police say that car then hit another vehicle but no one in that car was hurt. Coming up on 6 33, we want traffic and weather together. Those roads still slick katy . Definitely. Thankfully the winds from yesterday did okay it, how old, and it made it really, really cold, but actually did help to evaporate some of the moisture out there. So, everything didnt just freeze over, but there is definitely still some left over icy patches for sure. Now when we talk about snowfall we didnt end up finding too far of it, going out to the graphic but at least yesterday weaned dollars up with more rain than anything, as of yesterday at least this same time last year, we had already had 37 plus inches of snowfall in philadelphia alone. The average through that point was ten and a half, and so far this season, we have only had just over 5 inches. So, when you put it in that perspective, that either elates you or maybe depresses you little bit if youre skier, you want snow obviously, but looking at storm scan3 what we can at least expected to is full soul shine. Just have to cancel the clouds out there. It is dry but still icy. And it is definitely still cold. When you look at how it is actually going to feel here today, it is easily no better than Single Digits in most spots, probably more like subzero as you head up into the higher terrain so be ready for that with adequate layering, bundle up, as we say, and also just avoid anything that looks wet. Because it is ice. And it is cold enough for everybody to have seen anything thats left over, freeze over. Jess, over to you. Thank you katie. Good morning, everybody, just little after 6 30, some icy spots definitely to talk about. But first, we will start things off out in new jersey, on the 42 freeway right around creek road. Where you can seeing everything moving along just fine though so far. So the heads lights are headed northbound, possibly to 295 possibly to philadelphia, and the surround area bridges. But still moving along just fine the southbound lanes looking fine as well over the schuylkill expressway, starting to see some volume really increase, westbound lanes headed toward the king of prussia area. Thats typical jam up spot, as will. Now, Police Activity still out woodland avenue closing in at 65th street. You want to take greenway avenue or paschall avenue to get on by. But everything starting to jam up, in the southbound lanes northbound lanes moving just fine. With some road crews on the scene there blocking out the righthand lane, as well, now over on the roosevelt boulevard, this is actually a shot moved down quite a bit as well. But generally, you can see that southbound delay at the bottom headed toward the schuylkill expressway. Thats pretty typical for this time. Now, woodland avenue, still completely closed at 65th streetment take greenway avenue or paschall avenue to get around that Police Activity. It is also affecting septas route 11 trolley shuttle bussing between island and 49th street. We do have accident also in upper moreland route 23, which is Schuylkill River road right around third street. Use some caution. Icy slippery conditions out there. Ukee, back over to you. And, there are no injuries in this house fire in camden, the fire broke out just before 1 00 this morning in a vacant house on the 700 block every mount vernon street. At the moment they are still looking for a cause. According to the cdc there are now 102 confirmed cases of measles across the country. And as Health Officials continue to monitor more possible cases, the cdc is concerned there could potentially and larger outbreak. So, what do you need to know to pro tech yourself and your family . Family physician doctor rob dan off joins us with the very latest good morning sir. Always good to see you. This is highly contagious stuff. The likelihood well see even more cases in. Unfortunately i think we will seymour cases ill gave you a example why. California, which is the epicenter about 8 of kindergarten kids are not vaccinated. Pennsylvania, our state almost 15 every kindergarten kids are not protected against this disease so we really think there are pockets that are going to start having more cases of measles. New york is starting to pick up too so but it is an easy fix by getting the measles vaccine. And it is not just kids need to wore burks it is adults too, if you dont know were you vaccinated back in the day. Perfect point. Any youngster ukee, this is you. I know. Born 1957 or after really needs to see their doctor. Because a lot of times we as adults say oh, the kids, the kids. You agree in the most vulnerable are those less than five and also those greater than 20. In a california outbreak, people, large part of them, are over 20 years of age. Many adult do not even know if theyve had this vaccine. The mmr vaccine. So were recommend going to their doctor, find out are the adults protected . And i can tell you a lot are not. A lot have never even had one shot. So it is real important we can get blood test, check your immune status. Play it safe. Those at highest risk, international travel. Those had go to college or trade Schools Health professions, these are areas that you should really talk to about, or if you are a woman make sure that you have immune status against this, because you dont want to get mist unless youre pregnant. Right. Can lead to miscarriage. So youre right adults need to also talk to their doctors like the forgotten generation, protect the kids. But we have to get the adults. If you would drop some knowledge on us about the symptoms of measles because i think i heard it first almost like flu or cold symptoms at first. Yes ukee, youre right. You know, first of all anyone contagious, if youve been exposed usually might take ten to 12 days for symptoms to occur if they do, but might start off with a fever. Might be low grade at first cough, runny nose, red eyelids, then the fever all the sudden 103 104 then this rash there is red rash, develops, often on the forehead, behind the ears, about day four, and then spreads throughout the body. I can tell you most doctors in the country have never ever seen this. So, it is something that were more alert to now but we have to really Pay Attention because you know in the world over 400 people die every day from complications related to the measles. Every day. Prevent it. Thats the thing it, can be prevented. Despite that, a lot of parents choose not to vaccinate concerns about this possibly being linked to autism, i believe no study that actually backs that up, correct . No, youre right. There is no study. And i understand, parents understand really concerned. But his has been around for decades there is vaccine. It has been proven to be very safe. Here is the thing, and ill talk to parents who said weve never seen measles, but if you have, this can kill. This can kill your child. This can kill your loved one if they get measles. Snow is a safe vaccine. Right. Youre not only protecting your child youre protecting other children, especially, those less than one year of age, and other people in the population. So it is sometimes hard decision, but they would see a case of it, or they know someone who died from it, it is an easy decision for the parents to say dock, yes, well tolerate the lets protect my kids, lets protect my neighbors youre right and in our state just so many people thal are not vaccinated really important conversation to have so im encouraging everyone talk to your doctors lets try to prevent it, dont let measles get ahold in our country. Thank you sir. Thanks, doctor rob, good to see you. Great inside right now 6 49. Lets see whats coming up on six this morning. Nora with your preview this morning.
