Well, drones are expected to be a hot holiday gift this year. Nan this segment, cnet. Com sharon has three things to know about owning a drone. If you own a drone, first thing to know is that you cant fly them everywhere. Here are the basics. Drones have to fly below 400 feet. You have to be able to see it at all times, and they should stay at least 5 miles away from airports, and out of national parks. Some drone makers like dji built in Gps Technology that automatically keeps your drone out of these nofly zones. But, if yours doesnt do that, there are maps available on the web. Youll also have to register your drone. The Us Department of transportation will soon require that drone owners file their ownership in a national registry. Details and guidelines on how you can do that will become available at the ends of november. And finally, it is not always a good time to fly. Drones are light weight, and dont have a casino of power. So, in most cases, you should only fly your drone when the conditions are clear, and the winds is calm.
