As his supporters made their voices heard booing Hillary Clinton and marching in philadelphia in the wake of the email scandal showing favoritism for Hillary Clinton by the dnc. Today the dnc responded in a statement saying in part, on behalf of everyone at dnc we want to offer a deep and sincere apology to senator sanders, his supporters and the entire Democratic Party for the inexcusable remarks made over email. The dnc is taking appropriate action to ensure it never happens again. Home of the brave and the stars are also out at this convention, philadelphias own bobby hill, performing the national anthem. Boys two men opening with their classic hometown philly. They did a great job. Looking at the stage, congressman bob brady, from pennsylvania is addressing the convention, just one of many speakers on this first day in south philadelphia. We have team three coverage for you tonight, joe holden is live in fdr park with Bernie Sanders support hours are protesting the convention. We have david spunt on the floor with the members of the delegation, and made their way to philadelphia lets start first with you, david. Reporter jessica, this is one of the more quieter moments. You can feel the tension. It is palpable here between Bernie Sanders supporters and Hillary Clinton. This sign right here is the Transpacific Partnership something that sanders supporters have have been holding up all day long, they have been talking about Hillary Clinton. I want to bring in a Bernie Sanders supporter, senate star woods from philadelphia, he has been a sanders supporters. You can see the button for months now. The let me ask you you senator heywood talk about this tension that we have seen here today, what do you call upon your fellow Bernie Sanders supporters to do. It is time to unite the Democratic Party, behind the most Progressive Agenda that we have ever adopted at a, raise to 15 an hour, maintaining obama care, providing Affordable Health care, to individuals. It is time to unite. Reporter senator a lot of boos when people mention Hillary Rodham clinton tonight, this is supposed to be a time to celebrate Hillary Clinton, this is her convention. It is time to unite and our youth have identified that time. This is a sign that is creating some division, here in the convention. But the platform includes 90 important items, and transpacific pipeline is not one of them. Hillary clinton is in favor of not moving forward on the pipeline, even though the platform is not. But there are so many issues of which we are united now is the time to come together. Reporter state senator art heywood but now supporting Hillary Clinton. I have to tell you, this place is going to explode when Bernie Sanders walks in tonight with excitement, no question about that, reporting live, david spunt for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Thank you so much for. That. As expect, this first day has been mark by peaceful protests all across the sit have philadelphia. Lets go out to joe holden live at fdr park where protesters have been heard, jim. Reporter jessica and ukee, we are getting late breaking information. Police confirming through our sources that they have issued a number of citations in relation to protests, just a little bit north on broad street. Im standing here near fdr park near paterson and just down here is where fence is set up, and earlier at 5 00 is where you saw protesters, taunting delegates on their way out of the at t station and into the Wells Fargo Center. For the most part all of the protests have been peaceful. Police presence was high, dozens of officers cleared South Broad Street to make way for a few thousand protesters. Major center city artery was closed down for a couple of hours. They carried hundreds of signs, there was even a giant inflatable marijuana joint. Im out here to support Bernie Sanders. Reporter ongoing high profile drama between Democratic Party and Bernie Sanders has been described as an act of portrayal. Our democracy is at stake here and if we do not stand up for it, it is going to be disappearing. We need to fight for what we believe in. Reporter leaked e mailed allegedly showing a pattern of collusion in the highest ranks of the party have further eroded trust. We have seen the stories, when those emails were released were more cathartic because you had this boiling up inside but there was no real confirmation. Reporter tempers were matched by miserablely high temperatures and humidity. Handing out water which is great. Everybody is here, working, to stay cool. Reporter Police Commissioner richard ross joined us in the march. He has requested patients for those trying to get around, what will be a weeks worth of demonstrations. And some people have to be patient. People trying to get around the city, particularly center city, just be patient with us. But were here, we will do what we said we were going to do. Reporter our Police Sources confirming that a number of citations have been issued to protesters. They have not been placed under arrest. Of course, this is a fluid ever developing situation and we are on top of it. Live from south philadelphia, joe holden for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Thanks, joe, appreciate that. As you know those protesters have been dealing with sweltering, dangerous heat out there as well. It is incredibly hot. Lets go back into the studio to talk with kate bilo on the die deck and kate you are probably melting out there, right now. It is hard to breathe outside is why this heat is so dangerous especially with people with helps try issues. Humidity so high and temperatures at record levels. The temperatures went backup in the past hour. Lets look at current temperature. It is 96, once again, at the airport record tying. Ninetysix in dover. Seventythree in allentown. The difference they have had storms in the Lehigh Valley and storms are heading our way, as well, but in the meantime were talking about temperatures feeling like the triple digits. It is 96 degrees in philadelphia it feels like 106 n dover and feels like 107 in millville. This is not the weather you want to be out in in any length of time. We have Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the sit irv philadelphia, watch these storms as they push through northern and western suburbs, they are heading our way and i mentioned in the past is a 15th minutes a cell popped over Montgomery County, split is and it has gone severe. The is there a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with that cell moving east at 25 miles an hour, that will take it pretty quickly to montgomery by 6 15, warminster by 6 33, northampton by 6 46, newtown bucks county by 6 53 but southern edge of that cell could impact the city of philadelphia here within the next 15 or 20 minutes or so and there is a lot more to come, take a peak at those storms to the north and west, moving through allentown, frequent dangerous lightening, very heavy downpours with that storm and these storms have yet to progress through the area. Severe thunderstorm watch goes until 8 00 oclock tonight for the city, ten for southern suburbs. I will have more on these storms and when the heat wave breaks but now we will send it back to you. We are joined now by our republican analyst, allison young, allison, you you were with us also in cleveland and back here in philadelphia, with us. Lets start first with all of the emails and Debbie Wasserman schultz, shes out, not gaveling in, bernie verse hillary chants. How will republicans get in position to handle this. Republicans have just jumped on this today. The theme of tonight is supposed to be unifying Democratic Party, same thing republicans were trying to do last week and this has shined a spotlight the on the divisions still within the party. Emails werent just mocking Bernie Sanders or stacking Clinton Campaign verse Sanders Campaign but they were mocking donors. It has gone further and further and republicans are capitalizing, the email scandal keeps unfolding the longer the day goes on. What has surprised you the most considering everything you just said what surprised you the most in the divide between the two conventions. It is rowdy here, in center city, compared to last week which was relatively quiet. We didnt see a lot of protests here. Protests here started yesterday. I have seen protests on independent mall in center city, even getting into the arena tonight there were protesters that were block delegates early on when they got here. It is rowdy, rowdy in here, outside and that is the big contrast that i noticed. We have seen a couple of polls coming out since cleveland, donald trump getting a small post Convention Bump, through the next few days as they take center stage as democrats take center stage is what the best move for the Trump Campaign to be doing over next few days. What i think it real interesting right now is dnc, in particular, seemed to be selfdestructing. It the is almost like the republicans can keep the upper hand with the post Convention Bump but letting them selves destruct. Democrats will get a bump coming out of the convention and as we can goes on they will unify and build it together but right now the republicans are smart to sit back and watch some of this happen because it is clear there are major divisions within the Democratic Party right now. Self destruction that is powerful you truly believe that right now. Right now it is a wise strategy to watch and see what happens f i were advising the Trump Campaign watch and see what happens because i think the democrats, because there is so Much Division in the party Bernie Sanders voters arent just jumping on the hillary campaign. We have seen people down on the floor saying they will vote for jill stein or some in center city saying they will go to the Trump Campaign right now. So until the Democratic Party gets this figured out it is a good strategy to see how they will selfdestruct. Interesting to go see it is not like president obama conventions. That is right. Watch and see. Stay with Eyewitness News for continuing coverage of the campaign 2016, on the radio with kyw news radio, and 1210 wpht, on line with cbs philly. My goodness it is so hot out there and Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl has more on how the city is helping to keep everyone cool. Reporter at broad ape walnut there was music with some cooling water from the hydrant spray. The water. Reporter it is all about staying hydrated. It feels like it is a hundred, i will not lie. Is umbrella helping. Yes, very much. Quick and easy deployment paramedics are on bikes plenty of police, to keep them will cool, a fire truck, water mist is in wells fargo parking lot, just think how hot they must be wearing protective vests. Instead of having to dispatch ambulances, ee ms crews have been placed throughout the city. Reporter at this cooling station on broad street in south Philadelphia Police officers are handing out water. Trying to keep hydrated and happy. Just so far. Everything has been going well, everything is going okay, that is always great voiced their opinions in a nonviolent, you know, positive manner. Reporter officials are most concern about protesters getting dehydrated being outside for prolong period of time. That is why there is a misting tent in fdr park for them. I want to make sure they are in the park and prevent them from needing to be transferred to the hospital. It can happen over a course of a couple hours. Reporter doctors say dehydration can overtake people who are outside. Typically you start to get cramps, and nausea, light headed, dizzy and you can pass out and worst case you can die. Reporter doctors say this heat with humidity in all of the concrete around center city can be especially dangerous, that is why it is important to drink plenty of water. Im Stephanie Stahl, cbs3 Eyewitness News. That goes for those Philadelphia Eagles as well, out there year after year in this time of the year in this heat. Sweating. A lot. That is for sure. Lets go back to the studio and check with nicole and don. Yeah, you said it, right not just dnc in south philadelphia, we have our bird back. And they are sweating. Helmets and shoulder pads on it is rough out there. It is nature of the business, first day of the eagles Training Camp is front page news and lead newscast but this is not a normal day with the dnc in town rookie head coach Doug Pedersons first day goes somewhat gently into that good night. Just anxious to get here, excited to be here and wanting to be here extremely early but it is one of the deals where you just to have pace yourself, long camp, taking it day by day. I was excited to pull into work this morning and know this would be the first one and get a chance to work with these guys. Team wearing long sleeves shirts. Im hot looking at him. I dont know. Dougie fresh. Yes. Dougie fresh. Don, thank you. With the excessive heat is not enough we thunderstorm watch necessary effect. First and foremost look at new york city which is completely obliterated wye lightening. You cannot even see the map there very rough rush hour and they are pushing south.
