The man who police say slashed a brooklyn man on the subway has been arrested. The question is could he be responsible for a string of other attacks in the city. Dray clark is live with new video of the suspect. Good morning. Reporter good morning, ken. The investigation is still very much a work in progress but suspect because his grandmother turned him in. She recognized his red hat and red sweat pants and called the police and told them come and get him. Reporter overnight we are getting the first look at the man accused of randomly slashing a 71yearold woman across the face on the d train monday morning. 21yearold damon nose was arrested tuesday afternoon. I hope god he should repent, you know. Because of his life. Reporter the victim, Carmen Rivera doesnt want to show the 4inch gash across her face. She said the slashing in noho happened so quickly she didnt realize she was cut. He just pretended that he fell and he fell on top of me and thats when he slashed my face. Reporter although you cant see his face, Police Say Surveillance video shows him turnstile, falling flat on his face. He flew out, he flew. They couldnt get him. They tried to get him but he was flying. Reporter detectives are looking to see if he is connected to any other random slashings across the city. Now he is being held on multiple assault charges. The victim, also grandmother, had to receive 20 stitches to sew up her face. After she got home after the incident happened she told her family members she fell on the job. Tough lady. We are getting word of another apparently random subway slashing in manhattan. This is hours ago in east harlem. A 32yearold man was slashed southbound six train happening after 9 30 last night at the 116th street station. The victim received stitches at the hospital. For the First Time Since the blizzard, Public School students are heading back to class in newark. Crews spent the last four days cleaning up the snowy mess. Mallory hoff is live with the latest on the progress there. Mallory . Reporter lori, good morning. Significant progress has been made here in newark. We just took a good drive around. Things look very different than they did just in the last few days. Different than yesterday in fact. If you take a look outside of this school, you can see the sidewalk is, in fact, cleared. The issue is this. This is a concern in other areas in this area as well. But you can see half of this street still blocked this morning. This will be the scene as students make their way back to this Elementary School here. If you take a look at this see crews out here hard at work picking up the snow and moving it to other areas. New Jersey Department of transportation was called in yesterday because of the issues on the roadways here. There were as many as 200 crews on the road. The mayor of newark work here will get done. We will do this block by block until it actually gets done. I know tensions are high. We will not leave anybody stranded or left behind. We will work until we get it done. The problem becomes some of the side streets, some of the areas that maybe were plowed but in the process of digging out, people moved the snow back on to the roadways. He called the mayor of North Wildwood crazy for complaining that flooding was worse on saturday than during superstorm sandy. I think he was generally sorry for what he said to me. I would like for him to let the residents, the Business Owners and First Responders know that he understands what we went through. He is bullying everybody on the media and making us look like idiots and he has turned his back on us. The mayor angered the governor by saying the water was half a foot higher saturday morning than 2009 was during superstorm sandy. A tragic discovery for the family of a young hoboken man his money was found in the hudson river. Matthew genovese left friends in a bar in hoboken telling them he was going home. It was a ten block walk. A detective found his wallet and keys by the waterfront. Three days after he vanished, new York City Police divers helped to find his body in the hudson. When he did not show up to work on monday morning, matthew worked on wall street. At that time family members were called and they came to us to report matthew missing. Police say that there was no sign of foul play but its not clear how matthew ended up in the river during the blizzard. A case of the dangerous zika virus has been confirmed in nassau county, long island. Doctors say the patient tested positive yesterday. They have not revealed which nation that patient traveled to. 20 cases have been confirmed in nine states. This morning denmark confirmed its first case of the zika virus. Travelers are being warned to avoid places where the virus is present. At abc7ny we have a list of the countries impacted. United airlines responding to the threat of the zika virus allowing passengers to postpone flights to destinations that the cdc identified as travel risks. Travelers can choose a refund. An uber driver faces charges this morning accused of attacking a Passenger Service dog. The woman claims the driver refused to give her and her dog a ride last week in midtown after the passenger told the driver that the animal is her service dog. She said the driver grabbed the leash and slammed the dog to the ground dislocating its hip and leg. The driver claims that he was the one who was attacked. Protestors have been occupying federal land for weeks. This morning we are learning more about a deadly shooting at the stand off in oregon is over. The leader of the group and several of his followers were arrested during a traffic stop last night. Officials say when they pulled over the group, la vow finney come and bundys brother ryan refused to surrender. Shots were fired. Eight people were arrested. Each will face federal conspiracy charges. A manned and woman in others started shooting in an area south of downtown. The area is known as the jungle. Police say all five victims lived at the encampment. A search is underway for two suspects. In new jersey, take a look at this wild video of a garbage truck explosion. Look at this. The trucks two operators got out when they saw smoke filling the cab in Hamilton Township yesterday. The truck then burst into flames sending debris flying all around. No reports of injuries buted explosion was so big four homes surrounding the blast were damaged. Officials say an issue with the trucks battery system sparked the fire and a natural gas container exploded. Thats an issue. Four houses . An Indiana School district is morning the loss of a long time principal. Was pushing children out of the path of a school bus. Classes got canceled following the death of susan jordan. A school bus lurched on to a curb. She saved them. She pushed some of them to safety but she got hit. We will work closely with the authorities. We want to make it clear it was an accident. And we just ask that everyone in this community and beyond please pray for our students and our great leader. Two children were greased by the bus. They will be okay. No charges have been filed against the driver. It was an accident. Jordan was principal of the school for 22 years. Six Cleveland Police officers were fired in connection with a 2012 car chase that ended with officers firing 137 bullets at a car killing two suspects. Police cars and 105 officers. In addition to the six officers fired, another six have been suspended without pay. The fired officers include michael brelowe who fired 15 shots through the windshield suspects car. And assault. A Police Officer has been indicted for using a taser on a city councilman during an railroad rest in texas. Miller says he was outside his home with friends practicing a dance routine when they were approached by police back in october. They say the officers aggressively questioned them about what they were doing. I put my hands up and i backed up and just was wondering what did i do, how am i interfering. Thats when i was slammed to the ground. Miller was accused of interfering with a police ethan couch known as the affluenza teenager is expected back in the u. S. This week. Newark has been scrambling to clear the roads around schools so that students and teachers the city has made progress and classes will resume in a few hours. I want to point out significant progress has been made on the roads in newark. We took a good drive around. Since yesterday morning things do look dramatically different. Most of the streets are cleared. If you take a look, you can see the sidewalk has been cleared. I want to show you a problem. Take a look at this roadway here. You can see half of this street is still piled with snow. You can imagine this could potentially create chaos as these students head back to school. I want to show you this video from yesterday. You can see crews out scooping up the snow moving it elsewhere. Because of the condition on the roads in newark, the new Jersey Department of transportation actually had to come out here there were 200 crews on the roadway making sure things get better. 148 disabled cars were moved. The mayor says things will get done. We have done a substantial amount of work in the city since saturday. I think we are almost there. We have a few areas to hit and we are going to continue to be out here until its completely done. Naacp leaders presented a 15 point plan to help flint, michigan as the city recovers leaders crafted the plan with Flint Residents and presented it to governor schneider yesterday. That list calls for free Home Inspections and repeal of michigans emergency manager law. The naacp said the law gave Emergency Managers authorities to switch flints water supply. Flint continues to receive generous donations of water from across the country. Walmart and several Beverage Companies are set to deliver 6. 5 million bottles of water to the city. This donation will be specifically for schoolchildren and pregnant women. New York Real Estate heir robert durst will plead guilty to a weapons charge in new orleans. It will put him closer to murder charges in california. He is accused of killing susan berman. Hot yoga guy raw has been million to a former legal advisor. The lawyer said he sexually harassed then wrongfully fired her for investigating another womans rape allegations. It is an empire taught at 650 studios worldwide. The father was kneeling on the drivers seat assisting his wife. The baby had already crowned, the head was out, the father was supporting the head and on the phone with 911 still. Detective sharp did what he had to do. He jumped in to deliver the baby girl with help from her daddy. Other First Responders then cut the umbilical cord. The baby is doing fine. Healthy.
