Well right in there there's only just a few exit and the shorter exit it's kind of lit up because you know you've got the dog track there and some other facilities in that huge is just cows until you get to my grammar so I can kind of see that in fact in my mind you know the searches have been going on between there it seems as if whatever they did these suspects. With the 2nd suspect was charged as we can by the way was charged with disposing of evidence so I think he's more going to be an accessory I'm not sure if he was on the scene but this 1st guy with his last name is IED something who should have never been on the streets we got 2 stories like that today we've got one in blunt County where a guy. Had threatened his wife was released what Saturday night in Bambi kills his wife and himself should have been out he should have been in jail our system isn't perfect it tends to lean in the direction of the defendant is designed that way on purpose but at times that can be abused we see people that are violent and criminal and threatening and known to authorities they still escape of course incarceration and are out here monks this doing more harm but back to the n.i. a Case. Just it I'll try to put it in as delicate a words I can it confirms what we kind of suspected. Once we saw about the blood loss and the evidence that was found in the vehicle pretty much immediately. Authorities kind of assume from day one and they have been searching as if something fatal had happened to her I don't have the back story just yet on how they found her a lot of times this time of year we do have people out in woods hunters It's that time of year the visibility is better in the woods I've been a lot of searches for missing people over the years even since I was a kid because my father was in this business and it's always there's a funnel of the to finding out your worst fear even though your worst fear for that family for parents. And I just the minute I got the tip I just sank I couldn't say anything and then all I could think about was how many times I've seen them on t.v. Praying for the best fearing the worst trying to rally support they I will say this here at Thanksgiving week. We've got so many families that have gone through tragedies like this lately we've got the family of big John Big John Williams the sheriff down there it's got a needlessly shot a little fog that apparently was over loud music are you kidding me Here's the sheriff who comes in and this this kid was the son of a nother sheriff in another county no sheriff's deputy you can't write this stuff there's just evil things Ave people and create so much heartbreak and loss I think about. The days where our hearts when our throats over trying to find little cupcake and they found her in such a sad and tragic way and there are so many details about that story that most of us don't want to talk about out loud. It's been a rough year for that kind of stuff has been a rough year for cop slayings in general when I think about it I think we've had 6 and then the canine officer the No we include. In the tragedies that happen day to day in this state so this is a story this back to an this is a story that touched several different communities you had here in Birmingham because she's from home would you had all been community which. Is always sensitive because you know you got a huge student population down there and there have been incidents. And I were talking in the halls earlier today because we both went to school down there and you hear the same thing in all the big college campuses you just you remember the sequence of stories of abductions and forced abductions and crime that happens. On these campuses and while most every case it's not somebody that's already on the campus it's people coming from outside the campuses a coming into town coming in Auburn in particular and doing this kind of harm same thing happens over in Tuscaloosa at the campus it's people from outside coming in and preying on these kids if you've got kids off on their own at that age let her story be a lesson of situational awareness that's the best thing I can. It is a dangerous world out there if you're a young lady in this world Call me sexist Call me old fashioned I don't care women tend to be the prey of predators predators tend to be men. And women you know I told my boys how to look around before they get out of a vehicle specially at a gas station at a convenience store where you know you think about robberies happening not necessarily abductions I'm covered several abductions they happen at gas stations Here's walk carjackings there was one up in no less with him or so many jacked a car to guess this and they know you're distracted people tend to leave their keys in the vehicle. There are a lot of strangers and one proximity really close to each other a predator can target of opportunity and not even be noticed because everybody's doing their thing you know going inside for a bag of chips use a restroom getting gas all that kind of ignoring each other and so they can be dangerous places even though some are very well lit and good spots there if you think about it service station in particular. Most of murder designed to be easy and in easy out with a vehicle for the reason you want to whip in there get your ass in without predators and and thugs and the crooks see that is also an easiest place to escape from them they're back out on a road at an intersection and can go in one of 4 directions quickly and so when I speak of situational awareness you want to teach your children teach your wives and husbands get your head on the swivel Abo all people see who's around you someone looks out of place there's always another guess that if not just don't be alone don't turn your back don't leave your keys in the car. Don't. Go that way I got a sense and this is me talking without even though I'm connected to some law enforcement over there in a can get vague information sometimes that sometimes they can't confirm on the record so I just hang on to it. But you get a sense from piecing this together that this might have been an attempted carjacking that went violent. And then suddenly there was a haste of disposing of a body in a vehicle in the middle of the night this happened around midnight from what we understand on the timeline and she was reported missing and in missing persons cases it takes a few days before people get real serious about it because especially with young people young women sometimes people run off we've seen cases like that sometimes people just forget where they are from in and they're out with friends and don't think that check in and so sometimes there's a peak period there's a window where you can even filed a missing person case because the cops can't tell you every one of these because somebody hasn't checked in with her mom in 30 minutes. But by then you've got a time lapse that allows for a lot of things to go down in a day and in this case a body was disposed it appears and a vehicle was disposed and luckily for a good witness that had the Kurds to finally step up and surveillance cameras and and others that came forward the cops were able to pin down where her location was we believe tonight now we'll be following the case. This evening there will be probably developments maybe an official announcement I'm not sure of the authorities down there they'll probably come out to some kind of press availability if we can time that so that we're available and we've got a link down there will of course care for you live because we have followed the story not day to day and not minute to minute because we have to go on while we let the authorities do their thing but we follow the story very closely and then I think about the searchers and maybe this is a story that's kind of close to home for me I've told you all this on the show when I was a kid near a place called the Valley rescue squad and I just thought those guys were capes and I really really did that this were Superman hangout where I would see him I could almost see him from my house not see him roll out would there John but it's going to drag the river for somebody that was missing and that's what they did this was a volunteer group that went out and found people that were missing. And so I've always followed these cases and used to go on with my dad when people would be in the woods and we'd be doing foot searches and I think about all those years and then the people nowadays that come to the rescue the volunteers It was like that with the young lady that drowned on Smith Lake this year they just didn't give up there was decency even though we pretty much knew she was dead there was decency in finding her and giving her parents it will be to have a funeral I think there's something along those lines in this and I Blanchard case today because Texas that was searched came in here twice they came back last week it seems the leads have picked up and began searching again between Auburn and memory and we have a similar situation where a lot of people put in hours in the elements in the woods where it can be dangerous itself just searching any of the some of these people do this professionally they're still volunteers I say professionally they are well trained. But they are volunteers and so it's almost like a debt of gratitude society owes people that take the time to do this some of these volunteers will take off from their jobs and they get the resources of the state they put their aircraft in the air they used drones they had all kinds of technology doing everything they could to literally just in all that expanse all the miles between Auburn and going to try to find I hate to use a trite phrase but a needle in a haystack. To try to find a person that was dead that wouldn't give a heat signature in all that forest in between those 2 cities so that that story starts our show today. And just to let you all know we'll be keeping up with it and taking your phone calls of course we'll take calls on anything as we talk about this afternoon a.j. In a death a shooting death near University of montevallo I don't even know what that's about that was just about 1520 minutes ago so we got authorities on that scene and we're also finding you know the news just coming across seconds ago that we have a 3rd person arrested in the disappearance of an odd Lancer a guy named David Johnson Jr was arrested in Montgomery and charged with hindering prosecution so there was a network of these people covering for themselves and you got a sense of that again after it happened I think that's why the judge in the case put that he put that gag order on the participants because that in one of the information leaking out and here's why the less that's out the more there are things that the culprits would know that nobody would know but the culprits you know knowing the more information is out in the general public the defense lawyers for these thugs will be able to say well he saw that on the news. But it's a tighter case when you can glean information from suspects that would not have known otherwise had they not been connected the same so I can see why there was a gag order there was a fight over that last week so there's again a 3rd suspect arrested this is after a 2nd one this weekend. What we believe is her body has been found on a rural road near shorter Alabama which is right off I 85 between Auburn and Montgomery near the victory lane not seen or bodies there but that's where shorter is where victory line is and will have details on it we get it a.j. Until I saw one of our outlets reported that it was a a team of people from both the state and federal government that went in there and had an identified spot and came across the remains it was all repeatedly they had a taskforce would leak any the D.A.'s office the u.s. Marshals Aliya Emery County sheriff was involved in it and they were all working together so that tells you they had some direction to that scene someone told them where they put the body and that maybe what the 2nd perpetrator what his role was don't know that 3rd person that was charged has been charged with hindering So at some point they were questioning him and he didn't play along and so they've definitely done that 3rd arrest was a guy named David Johnson Jr He's arrested with hindering the prosecution when surprised if there's more people involved they don't give an aide David Johnson Jr a tape that 1st I mean things flood through your mind when you get some at the beginning of the end and I guess the closure I don't want to call it closure because they'll never that fame will never have closure are going to miss their daughter. But maybe they'll get some justice and maybe they'll get to have at least the knowledge of what happened as hard as it may be to absorb that it hits you in the heart as a parent I guess let me just spout on that just for a minute when they're little this is just my dad philosophy. And so you may share this when they're little when they're born they are right 1000 percent dependent on everything from you you've got to feed them and change them and diaper them and teach them how to be safe and slowly through life you teach them you know how to get up a flight of stairs and not run across the parking lot and your whole job in life to keep them safe yeah you don't teach them stuff you can teach them how to talk and read and write a bicycle and and teach them about the world teach a values teach them to work but the one job of a parrot as they grow up is to keep them safe you slowly start handing that to them so as they get older you hand that responsibility off to them a little bit you know by the time they're in elementary school you've got to trust them to get out of the car and walk to the classroom and then they get older at some point in life you've got to hand them car keys they're going to learn how to drive and then they're off on the roads there's freedom in that as a parent. But I don't know that you're ever any more concerned when they're 16 or 26 then you were when they were 6 it's just a different responsibility you go from knowing that you got this you locked the doors at night and maybe for some of us you get the gun ready if something happens and you're protecting them to having to send him out in the world in the hope that they're going to be able to protect themselves and I guess that's my thought right now if there's any good that can come. And this story about a naive and not in any way my blaming her for her circumstances but we've got to do everything we can to make. Our children aware of danger in this world I feel like met our having a conversation earlier today based on something totally unrelated but we're talking about how we are so consumed with our devices nowadays that they can't control us a bit we can't even drive down the road in a car without looking down we can't hardly have conversations person to person anymore without a phone or for me at this little apple watch or something interrupting you every now and then you glance away. We're losing that human ability to relate and pay attention and I think as my old man observation is we get we're even more walled off than we've ever been used to be we rode down the road in our cars and we all listen the same song that played at the same time on the radio in 1984 I promise you I was listening to Prince Rodney on the road at some point we all work as when it came on the radio we all turned it up together slowly music communication and i Pods and personal devices have taken that over and we all consume our media or movies or music or reading in our own way quietly without everybody else I think I guess I would say a book or a newspaper was the only modicum of that back when I was growing up you that's when you die slowly to read a good story somewhere to sit quietly enjoy a cup of coffee and read a newspaper now our eyes are plunged into these devices most of the day that's why now we have screen time mornings and all that Ok so. Not that that has anything directly to do with but what it's done is its condition is to not pay attention to our surroundings the device is the cause of any of this stuff but it's conditioning us to withdraw within ourselves focus on our narrow world and not everything else is out there around us so if you've got kids that are going out I implore you as a parent especially young women and I didn't raise daughters but you gotta teach them skills on awareness on trust on safety how to spot trouble and how to get out of trouble how to not get in the car if you can help it how to not be oblivious to predators that are around you and we all could use a refresher course on that from time to time even us grown men that kind of roll that way. It's Ok to have a gun in the vehicle but but have you thought through what you would do seriously in your check down when you would retrieve it how you would use it are you looking around for threats and danger when you're in a restaurant or at one of these gas stations bring up gas stations because that's where we believe a NY was abducted and that's where our sheriff down and Lowndes County was killed this week and they are strange places in the way that all of us crisscross each other at these places most the time you can go through your life. Some of you in be at home and be at work and go shopping and go home and never come cross paths with violent dangerous people gas stations an exception because we all go there. And like I pointed out earlier predators look for places like that as targets of opportunity or a place of up a target rich environment. Where they've got oblivious people distracted by other things what they're doing in their own worlds that don't see them coming I don't know that's what happened to and I but as I think about her case and what's going on right now in that rule row down in Macon County my heart breaks that for a split 2nd maybe she could have walked inside or got on in the car and pulled away . That's how fast these things happen not to frighten people but watch some of these abduction videos online and find good ones that teach you what situational awareness awareness is I read a lot of books on this years ago it was mainly when we were having terrorism threats and in you know we sometimes it's mass shooting incidents that bring this topic up but they call it a code yellow people that operate in this mode because Green would be everything's good everything's fine all the time you just constantly in a state of ease and relax you can do that I guess in certain places maybe inside your home with your family with people you trust with your coworkers whatever but when you're in a unfamiliar environment or changing environment you've got to be sort of code yellow you're not alarmed you're not worried you're not stressed but you are paying attention you're cautious just looking around observing take notes there's a game that some people in.
