Lets look at the mapping system, most of the majors still running in the green this morning. Seeing a few slow downs, providence and up toward the albermarle split. Now a little further to the north up toward huntersville, sam furr at par drive off old statesville, not seeing delays as of yet. A further down to the south, gilead at old statesville road at the crossroads to the huntersvilleconcord road, another accident came in id say 15 minutes ago. Wbtvs Mark Davenport is live in charlotte this morning with much more on this story. Mark, tell us what is the hold up . Reporter the Board Members could not decide whether to start the superintendent search. There was back and forth at the meeting at the government center. Blame being cast around the table. I want to show you inside the meeting where Board Members were discussing back and forth and they were confused at times. That is what we were seeing last some of them like board claire marychairmary mccray went on the defensive for not setting a time line. After the board was promising a time line would be set at the meeting, it didnt happen. Parents and taxpayers at the meeting in the audience are upset about this. They have a year to deal with this and it seems like what theyve done tonight is just kicked the can down the road a little bit further. One week becomes one month, one month becomes six months. Six months becomes another year and were right back with no superintendent. Not take that long. Last night there was something that was finally decided the board voted 71 to take this back up on march 8th. Christine a live look at the commute this morning, a lot of times you dont see the rain mix well with commuters, so far though, so good on this stretch of i77. This is at the arrowood road exit, you see the roads are plenty wet. Just watch for a little bit of ponding in the road and on the shoulder and give yourself extra distance from the car in front of you. Remember, youre never more than and traffic on wbtv news this those roads are plenty wet you saw in the images, al. Al heavier downpours and rain falling around the metro area now. Bigger picture the low between memphis and nashville, this will head toward the ohio valley, it will drag a warm front through and a cold front late this afternoon. Make us unstable here and again, were at least open for the idea of a few thunderstorms being severe. Having said that, the same element in place yesterday across louisiana, mississippi, alabama are not in place here. Better threat for severe or moderate risk is from raleigh eastward, a marginal situation in the wbtv viewing area but something weve got to monitor because the threat is at least somewhat there. Not as great as it was yesterday, though. Our numale fishing forecast, 55 rain, thunderstorms midday, close to 70, most of the heavier activity pushes to the east by 4 00. Showers around and still 70 degrees. Jennifer sanford sent in a picture of her daughter, morgan all smiles after she docked a blue gill at a local pond. A senior at north Gaston High School in dallas, loves to fish with her dad whether she is not busy dancing or playing softball, way to go, morgan, youre our big catch of the day. To me at aconklin wbtv. Com. After we get through today, trust me on this, much much better weather. Runway of dreams makes adjustable clothes that can be put on and taken off in multiple ways. They are collaborating with tom my hilfigger. Sharp looking stuff out there. Christine good stuff. John 17 minutes before 6 00. Heavy rain already this morning, sort of a lull right now. Al there is and isnt. I want to emphasize the same parameter in place yesterday, i was monitoring it yesterday across louisiana, mississippi, alabama, seeing all the tornadoes that were unbelievable. The same parameters are not in place here. So we do have a threat for Severe Weather today, and isolated tornado and cant be ruled out. Yesterday that was a slam dunk of a forecast. The greater threat is east of charlotte, a much longer prolonged period where they can warm up in the 70s, well in well be margin marginally at 70. Here we are this morning, decent batch through the University City area and going up in i85 and Cabarrus County. Harrisburg, cox mill, cabarrus, kannapolis, concord youre getting rain heading toward china grove and salisbury. Bigger picture, a little disruption right now of the flow of wet weather coming up and moisture source coming up in our part of the carolinas because of this big cluster of thunderstorms. They robbed the moisture, consolidates there and until that moves eastward we probably wont see more than we have right now. Back to the west this is the concern as you get in the discreet cells and these kick up a lot of wind, without a lot of thunder and lightning. Having said that, watches and warnings all over the place throughout the eastern part of the country and Flash Flood Watch remains in effect. This is not just with this system, westbound on top of the last couple days, 23 inches in viewing area. Just light rain falling in charlotte right now. Overcast here, we do have cloudy skies out there and current temperature of 50 degrees. Again, getting rain at the airport right now. Youll run in that. With the east breezes youll see temperatures rise. Youre in the 40s across the foothills right now but look to the south, 55 lancaster, 50 monroe, rock hill, all that is coming northward in advance of the front. Our temperatures will go up, should be close to 70 during the midday hours and late this afternoon once the front moves through we will see temperatures go off. First off, warm front comes through, that opens at least a six hour window where were quite unstable here and we see the heavier thunderstorm lines move through in advance of the front. On the backside they are snow and that is part of the equation, that is for the mountain counties and for tonight and in tomorrow. Again, greater threat for Severe Weather will be in eastern sections of virginia and north carolina. Anywhere from the foothills eastward, especially east of i77 this afternoon, give or take an hour or so around lunch time, is the main time im most concerned about. Well keep you posted on that. Winter weather advisory in effect until friday morning that kick in tonight because you are going to get snow in the mountains. Odd as that sounds, near 70 today, snow in the mountains tonight and tomorrow. 56 tomorrow, as we head toward friday, 53 degrees, 54 on saturday, we rebound very nicely, sunday, 64, still in the 60s next week. We get a cooldown but not by much. Lets check in with chris, first alert traffic. Chris first alert traffic is sponsored this morning by toyota of north charlotte. Keeping an eye on the wednesday morning commute, roads are wet, allow extra time but our majors are 77, 85, 485 all running in the green. An accident on sam furr at par up to 115, not seeing terrible delays, this accident about 15 minutes old now. A live look at i77 northbound at trade street, certainly seeing the spray coming off the vehicle, wipers are or this morning. Again, drive slow, take your time. Overall commute here the broad view coming out of gastonia, 321 to the north, south in york, no problems, 601 looks good. 521 from van wyck in the ballantyne area smooth. Concord to center city, 18 minute commute and lake norman, southbound, 17 minutes and 62 miles an hour. Youre never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic on wbtv news this morning. Kristen a live picture, one of the storm vehicles that is working for our sister station in the myrtle beach area. Just driving around the city in myrtle beach, checking on the conditions and you can see from the way the trees are moving pretty good it is very, very windy and rainy, i was looking on the website and they were closed in the area because of the rainy weather, i want to talk about what this storm is doing in other spots, look at video we got in a couple moments ago, this is in fayetteville, arkansas. Al here we go this morning, youre seeing five sweeps of power Doppler Radar still getting quite a bit of rain in the foothills and in the piedmont. Nothing severe right now. Ill take you in here this is Cabarrus County you can see a heavy cell going up over concord and kannapolis right now. Lets put a tracker on this, these are moving pretty quickly off toward the north, northeast at 35, 40, even 50 miles per hour. Granite quarry, ten minutes or so. That is how fast these are moving. So once they are in, they are in and then out very quickly. Youll get hosed down but that is the end. There are lots of these little cells coming through. Heavy rain south of us. I think that is robbing a lot of our inflow moisture, once that bypasses us, look back to the west, smooth sailing, a clear transport of very moist and warm air coming up and that is what were seeing here, lines that are coming out of alabama and georgia, any one of those potentially as we get in the 60s to low 70s in the middle part of the day could in fact bring us potential for Severe Weather. 50 in charlotte, 50 arboretum, weddington, ballantyne, 53 tega cay, warmer air to the south, that is going to be coming up and replacing this cool pool of damp air over us. Rain in boone, 39, 43 morganton, 47 shelby, 55 in lancaster and again that is a tipoff of what is coming in our direction. Thunderstorms in our forecast, at least through the early afternoon hours, by late day things will settle down. The main threat time will be the middle part of the day here, charlotte, concord, mooresville, close to 70, low to mid 60s lenoir, boone, 55.
