Crews spent hours cleaning up this mess on sardis lane in south charlotte. Duke energy says all of its crews will be on stand by certainly these are high voltage transmission lines and it can cause harm or death if someone comes in contact. Duke energy is advising people to report downed lines if they see them and never attempt to move a line by yourself. M. , it sounded like a crash of lightning and i came outside to see what was going on and looked and the tree was totally down and took out the power line and also had landed on top of that car. The white cars front windshield is busted in by the branches. He has a large tree in his yard and others behind his house. You never know. I mean, things could be standing one and next on the ground as you can see. He is not an arbourist but he thinks he knows what caused the tree to fall. With this being a historical neighborhood a lot of the trees here are probably 80 plus years old and weak rooted systems and with all the rain that we have gotten, caused the soil to loosen. And in the same neighborhood with plenty of big old trees a few blocks away this house on West Boulevard had a tree fall from the front yard. The homeowner said no one was hurt. Everyone is thankful just property was damaged and power is out for a few hours. But now they keep looking up. You start wondering could this happen in my yard . It could happen anywhere. That alleged kidnapping happened early Tuesday Morning on baldwin avenue in the cherry neighborhood. Police say the people kidnapped and robbed the driver before letting him go. A liberal Watchdog Group is claiming governor mccrory and his campaign broke the law by helping promote the connect nc bond initiative. The Group Progress nc filed a complaint with the state board of elections today. Nick ochsner broke the news of this today on twitter and he is here with more. Paul, the complaint filed stems from an opinion handed down by the state board of elections saying a candidate like governor mccrory cannot coordinate with the committee to promote the passage of the bond but the complaint points to two videos as proof that mccrory one video features mccrory advocating the passage of the bond and uses shots as a recent campaign commercial aired by the mccrory campaign. The complaint asks for an investigation and the board of elections to issue a cease and desist order. Mccrory spokesman issued the following statement saying quote. Elsewhere in Gaston County, several trees fell on top of power lines leaving many homes without powerment one neighbor on that block says she could not hear the trees falling down because of how loud the wind was. Very loud, loud wind sounds. We heard a small click and i did not realize it was a power line falling. At last check 5500 homes in Gaston County are still without power. Now these are damage reports down around the upstate of South Carolina. And all of these might start migrating closer to the charlotte area through the evening hours. We have been noticing a progress reports starting to get closer to the viewing area. And here we go. A shower racing up through mecklenberg county. We have Brody Oconnell out there now saying he might have had a grople snow if you can imagine that surviving down to the ground here. We are hanging around 60. And the high wind warning for the piedmont of North Carolina that remains in effect through 7 00 p. M. And if they allow that to expire on time, that will be replaced by the wind advisory that is in effect for the entire wbtv viewing area through noon. That will be on thursday. And were still accounting for gusts perhaps as high as 50milesperhour. The Winter Weather advisory that snow, you bet, avery, mitchell, yancy counties it will come in tonight and it will be a factor thursday. Again the wind gusts through 11 00 p. M. Still in that 30mileperhour range and they are starting to pick up again up here across the high country. So look out. 7 00 a. M. , believe it or not, it is still going to be gusty. 2030mileperhour winds and settling a little bit toward the noon hour on thursday. But a different story again the mountains going to see the wind whipping. And you see the circulation that is bringing the wind and that snow back into the high country but through 11 00 p. M. Tonight we are not looking for much more in terms of rainfall. Temperatures as said around 60 right now. 40s in the high country. Well roll it through 11 00 p. M. If you are heading out hang on to your hat because it will be cooling off. With the winds bringing in that new airmass and into the upper 30s. By tomorrow morning. Moving again through the day, thursday morning well start off with the snow well underway in the high country. For us, you see the wind is whipping around. 41 when you are out the door at 8 00 a. M. Nothing changes during the day. Afternoon hours. More snow in the high country. What does it add up to . 06 inches and we are heading we are figuring 35 up there in the higher elevations. Outside of the mountains, well take you to 52 here at noon. And 54 at 4 00 p. M. And it might feel cooler with the wind whipping around. In the high country you have the best chance of snow. 60 at 4 00 p. M. Ski beach 27. All right then outside of the mountains little chance of rain or snow. 40s to 50 in the foothills. Mid50s in the piedmont of North Carolina and midupper 50s with the wind still a factor down into the upstate of South Carolina.
