There is some construction issue to tell you about if youre trying to access 76 westbound from spring garden. There is construction on the ramp until the end of the month. Take girard to 76 westbound. 95, cottman in philadelphia, theres longterm construction, but its not tying anything up. And bear, delaware, route 896 at the summit bridge, the right lanes are blocked in both directions. Chris . Three stories that are new from overnight. About three hours ago, firefighters had to rescue a woman from a burning home in philadelphia. This happened on belleville avenue in germantown belfield avenue, rather. Crews say there were heavy flames coming from the back of the home. Firefighters pulled a 60yearold woman from the house. She was taken to the hospital but is said to be doing okay. No word on the cause. And an overnight fire in chester at 7th and caldwell street last night. No one was injured. Investigators say it doesnt look suspicious, but no word on the cause. Police were calling to a Burlington County hotel. Nbc 10 was at the knights inn as police investigated. They tell us people inside one of the rooms were playing with a gun when it went off. No one was hurt. Happening today, Camden School superintendent is talking about how to improve student performance. Now, this comes in the wake of new test results that show most kids in that district are not ready when it comes to math and english. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in camden for us this morning. And matt, you talked exclusively with that School Superintendent leading up to this announcement. What is he saying this morning . Reporter well, chris, he tells me that School Success will not happen overnight and its not going to be easy, but it starts by having a frank conversation with parents. And heres why. Students at camden took standardized tests late last school year, and the results were not very good. When it comes to english, only one in five students here are considered proficient, and there are similar numbers for math. That is well below the state average, and it hasnt changed. The results were about the same from the year before. We need to make very clear to families where we are as a School District and how we need to do better, and again, what that collective will is for us to see the changes we need to see to improve our schools, because our students deserve that. Reporter and later this morning, he is kicking off a twoweek schoolbyschool tour to talk with families about how to get this district going in the right direction, and that will happen here at the catto school, one of the schools that is performing little bit better than others. Today, six School Districts will join parents and the naacp to announce legal action against the state. The groups claim the governor, lawmakers and state education officials are responsible for a School Funding system that is skewed against equal funding for racially diverse districts. Details of this lawsuit will be announced at 11 00 this morning in harrisburg, and you can count on nbc 10 to bring you those details. Happening today, deliberations are expected to begin in the trial of a former decorated Philadelphia Police officer. Prosecutors say Richard Decoatsworth assaulted his then livein girlfriend last year at the Port Richmond home they shared. Decoatsworth spent more than a year in jail after also being accused of rape and Human Trafficking involving two other women. Those charges were dropped, but the Assault Charges stuck. He retired from the force in 2011 after a fiveyear career. Another former Philadelphia Police officer is also going to trial today. Kevin corke ran is accused of the false imprisonment of an air force veteran. That incident was captured on cell phone video in march. They say corcoran roughed up roderick king, put him in an suv, took him to an alley and held him there for a half an hour. King says he was never told he was under arrest and corcoran only let him go after he told him that he was in the air force. Police in Chester County say a family fight over money led to an attempted murdersuicide that left the shooter braindead and the victim clinging to life. Officers tell us 70yearold John Richard Berry shot a Family Member before shooting himself. This happened saturday night at a home in paoli. Berry is now on life support. The victim, john williams, is in very Critical Condition. And a man is in Critical Condition this morning after being shot inside his car in philadelphia. Police were called to the scene on marron street in germantown last night. They thought it was a car crash but then found that the driver had been shot in the head. Police have made no arrests yet. In salem county this morning, we have new information in the case of a School Board Member and a borough councilwoman who are charged with assaulting a police officer. Attorneys for Walter Hudson and Jeanette Jackson have now filed a complaint against pennsgrove borough, saying the borough failed to comply with an ordinance to pay their legal fees. This all stems from this incident in july, which was caught on video. Investigators say hudson and jackson became upset with an officer who was questioning some teens about underaged drinking. The video shows hudson throwing the officer to the ground here. Jackson was also charged with assaulting that officer and obstructing justice. We may learn this week if charges will be filed against the student accused of knocking out a substitute teacher. That unconscious teacher here at Bartram High School in southwest philadelphia. This is the video showing pewu johnson lying motionless in the hallway after the attack last week. This is the third time a teacher has been assaulted at bartram high in the past month. A Philadelphia Police officer may be released from the hospital today after a teenager rescued him from his burning car. Look at this video that was taken saturday night after officer mark kimseys cruiser collided with a pickup truck at 28th and tasker. He was trapped in the car. 17yearold joe chambers, who is also a volunteer firefighter, ran in to help. I saw that it was a cop car, and right then, i started sprinting and i did what i had to do. Officer kimsey was able to meet with chambers at the hospital and thank him. No charges were filed in that crash. The Investigation Continues in New Castle County this morning as authorities try to figure out what caused a man to lose control of his car and crash into a house. Police say the 27yearold driver was on old willington road in hoe kessin when he went off the road, went airborne and crashed into the second floor of a barn that had been converted into a home. No one inside was hurt. The driver had minor injuries. Well, philadelphia is helping the u. S. Marine corps celebrate its 239th birthday. A ceremony will take place this morning at city hall. This now forces the airline and its union for cabin crew workers into binding arbitration. Now, that will complicate the integration of American Airlines and us airways. The two merged last year to form the Worlds Largest airline operator. Well, this morning, drivers of the Ridesharing Service uberx could be arrested after threats from the philadelphia Parking Authority. Uberx launched in philadelphia late last month. Now, this Service Allows people to use their personal cars to operate their own transportation service. The ppa has been fining uberx drivers, though, 1,000, and impounding their cars. Now the drivers could actually be charged with a crime. The Parking Authority says the service is illegal in philadelphia. Uberx says its all about Consumer Choice. Theyre not licensed, theyre not inspected, we dont know what type of insurance there are. Its a hat cab service, and theyre trying to bully their way in. Uberx is a part of uber, which is a fully regulated driving Service Within philadelphia. Officials say they will pay the fines, uber will pay the fines, rather, for drivers who are caught in this ppa sting. Uber released a statement, saying in part, the ppas actions are intentionally harmful and transparently anticompetitive, deliberately attacking Consumer Choice to protect big taxis wallet is a disservice to the people of philadelphia who deserve greater transportation options.
