The city of baltimore is in its final hour of a curfew that started last night at 10 00 p. M. There was some rioting as Police Worked to enforce that curfew. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live for us this morning with new details from overnight, matt. Reporter chris, weve seen a lot less activity in baltimore compared to last night. Once that curfew went into effect Baltimore CityPolice Report there were no major incidents and only a handful of arrests. That curfew on the first night as we mentioned ends in less than an hour and this morning schools will be reopening today. Initially once that curfew went into effect at 10 00 p. M. There were still plenty of people in the streets. Police used smoke cannons to disperse the crowds. The Police Commissioner says eventually the clouds left peacefully clearing the streets by 11 00. In totality after the city after our curfew went up weve had about ten total arrests. Getting reports from the organization that we do not have a lot of activity or movement throughout the city as a whole so the curfew is working. Reporter new pictures in to nbc 10, 150 troopers from new jersey are in baltimore helping keep the peace. Sky force 10 was over the state Police Headquarters in hamilton Mercer County yesterday afternoon when those state troopers set out in a 20 vehicle caravan. Theyre joining thousands of Law Enforcement from around the country after the call was made to bring in reinforcements to keep the area calm following the violence that happened on monday. Theyre going down there to protect life and to protect property and to make sure that the good people of baltimore can keep their community intact. State police packed protective gear and readied their urban search and rescue and Task Force One mobile unit. This is how the stands will look when the orioles will take on the Chicago White sox this afternoon in baltimore. The game will be closed to the rj public because of the unrest. Its believed to be the first game without fans in major leagues baseballs 145 year history. The orioles postponed their games monday and tuesday. Much different situation than what we saw yesterday and what we were telling you about yesterday, but coming up at 4 30, president obama has been speaking out about what happened in baltimore. This happened where Michael Brown was killed by a white Police Officer last august. Its not clear if the shooting was related to that protest. A newspaper report estimated the crowd at about 50 people in ferguson. Some lit trash cans on fire. So far no comments from police on the shootsing or the demonstration. Yesterday a grand jury returned an indictment against the victims husband. Crosbys wife disappeared on new years eve. Investigators say they used a gps and her husbands vehicle to find her body in maryland. His mother jo crosby tried to help him cover up the crime. A man charged with murdering a co worker on the job has a court hearing. Peter atem is charged with murdering danny vasquez. Investigator said atem stabbed vasquez because vasquez pulled a prank on him. Today a judge will decide if a couple is going to be held accountable for a ferret attack. The baby was strapped a car seat on the floor. She and her four siblings are in foster care. We have new video in from wilmington where two women were shot last night. This morning operations are back to normal at Philadelphia International airport after an Emergency Landing yesterday delayed dozens of flights. United airlines express jet was headed from raleigh to newark when it was diverted to philly. The plane was on the ground and everyone was evacuated in minutes thanks to a quick thinking crew. He told everybody just dont grab your stuff, get off the plane immediately. People were going off the back of the plane, the front of the plane. One passenger with a history of heart trouble was rushed to the hospital as a precaution but there were no injuries. Buses took the other passengers to their destination in newark. Her immigration attorney helped her get a visa extension for two to three months. The road between her home and the airport is pretty bad. To add nepal to a list of countries with a special status that would allow residents to stay here until its safe to return home. Many of us know that students these days are constantly switching back and forth between informal texting and formal writing between schools and exams. For some students it can be tough to make the switch and know when abbreviations and shorthand is appropriate and not. We went to Council Rock High school where several english teachers met with us. They talked to us about students writing challenges these days. One teacher tells us her ninth graders tend to slip into text mode when writing formally but older students dont make that mistake as much. They said that they often do and that it has affected their writing, the texting, and that they find themselves having to work a little bit harder on formal writing. The 12th graders said they have two mindsets. They have a texting mindset and formal writing mindset.
