What you can expect in any severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, small hail, heavy downpours and lightning. Those will be the main threats as we go through this afternoon and this evening. Conditions look fairly favorable for some damaging winds with any of these storms and very heavy rain and lightning. That will be the case later on today. Through the afternoon, well be getting into the upper 70s, expect the clouds around today, scattered showers and thunderstorms at the shore, especially later on this evening as well. Breaking news now, new Jersey Governor Chris Christie is suspending road projects after the state senate refused to vote on the gas tax increase. About four hours ago, governor christie issued an executive order calling for all work being paid for by the states Transportation Fund to stop did i midnight tonight. They get their money from the gas tax. Governor christie wanted to raise the gas tax to 37. 5 cents per gallon but the plan would cut the sales tax from 7 to 6 and eliminate the tax on retirement income. The assembly approved it on tuesday. Last night, Steven Sweeney said the proposal cost too much money and did not have enough votes. I expect well come to a cant collusion. No time line on when that deal could happen. The next Senate Session is scheduled for august 1st. Four minutes past 4 00 right now. Lawmakers sent Governor Tom Wolf a 31. 5 billion spending package which includes a 200 million increase in Public School funding. Lawmakers have not figured out how to raise a billion dollars to fund that and other programs. Governor wolf issued a statement he would not sign a budget bill without a way to pay for it. Governor Chris Christie has signed the states 34. 5 billion budget for the new fiscal year that starts today. The budget doesnt raise or lower taxes. The governor used his line item veto to cut out about 300 million that was approved by state lawmakers including 25 million to expand preschool education. This shows us the best area for the severe storm development. The damaging winds could be higher than 670 miles an hour. Heavy downpours, lightning and potentially hail. There is concern about an aggressive species of mosquito going through a population explosion in the south bridge section of wilmington. The state Mosquito Control officials are asking the city for permission to do an aerial spraying. They want help about cracking down on property owners.
