Nbc 10s Christine Maddela spent the day with infectious does experts in philadelphia for a conference. The timeliness of this really is uncanny. Christine, what are they saying about this . Reporter well, the enterovirus expert i talked to said with many other Infectious Diseases, there are things they know, and things theyre still trying to find out. For example, they know there has been several reports of muscle weakness and changes to the spinal cord including in five patients reported by the Childrens Hospital of philadelphia. They also know that muscle weakness is being reported at the same time the enterovirus d68 outbreak is occurring. What they dont know, though, is if those two conditions are related. A small number of the kids with this muscle weakness have tested positive for enterovirus d68, most of them have who been tested have not had clear evidence of the d68 strain. So we dont know yet what the relationship of that virus is to this increase in cases in muscle weakness. Were trying to figure that out. I think were concerned that theres a direct link, but nobody knows that yet. Reporter the doctor says it may be difficult to prove a link between the muscle weakness and evd68. He says the muscle weakness may be a complication of the virus or due to something entirely different like another Infectious Disease and that theyre researching the conditions as we speak. Nbc 10s Vince Lattanzio got exclusive, unprecedented access to this team. Vince, how big of a fight is this . Jim and jackie, they say its an enormous fight every single day. I spent a week with the Child Exploitation unit there at Homeland Security investigations, and i got to learn how they track down child predators living in local neighborhoods. People who are trading and producing child pornography. The unit opened hundreds of cases a year and put many criminals behind bars. But they may not always know who the victims are. Now, though, theyre using new techniques, analyzing those pornography images to try and find these kids. Able to dissect those pictures, and, i mean, delve down into the physical aspects of the picture, itself. And really kind of take every little piece of information, of trash, of anything thats in the background of that picture and give an idea, potentially, of where that picture may have been taken. Now, i also spoke with the father of a 7yearold girl who was sexually abused at the hands of her own mother and the photos of those assaults traded online. Raghunandan yandamuri has been found guilty of firstdegree murder in the deaths of a baby, and her grandmother. He has also been found guilty of kidnapping, robbery, and burglary. The 2012 case stemmed from what authorities have called a botched kidnapping plot. The verdict was announced within about 40 minutes ago inside a Montgomery County courtroom. We understand it is expected to move into the penalty phase this evening. Yandamuri could face the Death Penalty or life in prison. Well, more clouds are moving in for us this evening, and by tomorrow night, some of these clouds will bring rain with it. Before we get there, well still deal with some Cool Temperatures tonight. Temperatures dropping to around 50 degrees again in philadelphia. Clouds stay around tomorrow. Tomorrows afternoon highs will be a little cooler, too. And then we start to see that rain approaching and starting off your weekend. So ill show you the timing in just a minute. Right now through the lehigh valley, in about the upper 60s now. Mt. Pocono, 57 degrees. Westchester, 63. Philadelphia, 67 degrees. All the way up to trenton and mt. Holly. South jersey and delaware mainly in about the mid to upper 60s right now. The clouds have moved in. Temperatures are starting to drop. None of these clouds are bringing the rain at the moment. Heres a live look out at center city from the adventure aquarium. You start to really see overcast skies trying to build into the area. Well continue to see these clouds moving through for tonight. Temperatures will still be cool. About the low 40s. Areas north and west through allentown. 46, quakertown. 44 for reading possibly. Trenton, mt. Holly, near 50 degrees. Doylestown, norristown could be in the upper 40s tomorrow morning. Closer to the shore, about the low 50s. Little farther inland, upper 40s. Around philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, well be waking up to temperatures similar to this morning. Right around 50 degrees. So heres a look at satellite and radar. No rain right now, but we do have the clouds. The rain is a little farther back off to our west. So you just see a line of showers all the way streaming across the middle of the country and it is moving in this direction. So were going to keep seeing the clouds move in over the next 24 hours. The rain will start to approach, too, as we get closer to tomorrow night. And this will be starting off our weekend, too, for many of us. Future weather here, not giving us the rain tonight, but certainly increasing the cloud cover into tomorrow. Friday morning, we start off with the clouds. We stay dry. Then through the afternoon, the rain chances increase. The clouds are still here. Cooler temperatures, too. Then late friday night our rain chances go up even more. So this is about midnight going into saturday. You notice how all the moisture still over us. Especially as we wake up saturday morning. By 11 00 a. M. , some of the better rain chances may be south of philadelphia. The way this weather system is kind of moving through the area. Then as we go into saturday afternoon, we should start to see clearing. More clearing the farther north you go. As we go into sunday, though, well start to see conditions improving, but still Cool Temperatures. By sunday night, though, for the eagles game, well drop down to 6 0 degrees by game time. Dont be surprised if you see a shower around the area. By 11 00 p. M. , temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. For tonight, though, around 50 in philadelphia. Cloun clouds continue to move in. 42 areas north and west. It will stay cool. Tomorrow, a cooler afternoon. 59 to 63 for the high temperature. Clouds stay with us. The late rain starts to move in. Especially late tomorrow night. And going into saturday morning. Highs saturday only around 62 degrees. Sunday, same thing. About the mid to low 60s. So we stay cool this weekend. Next week, though, we are back into the 70s. Why are they booing . Well, those boos were the welcome flyers fans gave to what are the ice guys this preseason. These are guys wearing sweaters to clean the ice during timeouts. They were replaced ladies who were wearing much less, hence the boos. The team expected the ice girls to be gone this season but the fans spoke up. The flyers chose a group of ladies last weekend and nbc 10s jillian mele was there. Flyers fans are the most passionate fans in the country. We know that. They spoke. They wanted the ice team back. So the organization listens. They will be back on opening night. Reporter but first, the eightmember ice team had to be selected. 26 skaters went to sundays open audition where they gave it their all in front of six judges. Myself included. I was nervous at first. Then once i got out there with all the girls, i, like, my nerves calmed down. Lot of great skaters came out. A lot of women who knew how to skate well. Reporter after the skating portion of the day, next came the interview room. No cameras were allowed there. All of the skaters were asked a series of questions and what struck me most is actually all of their diverse backgrounds. Im a student at villanova unit, double major in accounting and systems. Reporter melanie put on the blades at 9 years old and skated her way to become a u. S. Figure skating gold medalist. Courtney started out figure skating but found her love of ice hockey in high school when her friends asked for help starting the schools girls team. I decided why not go for it and it turned out to be one of the best decision to switch in ni my life and i became the girls captain and led them on to winning a lot. Reporter then theres nina who grew up figure skating but had to find another passion after an injury in 1998 sidelined her from competition. I am going to be in law school probably the next three years and finishing my undergrad and my focus is Child Advocacy and doing a childrens camp in haiti and making sure theyre getting the right nutrition and daily vitamins. Reporter no matter what twr track the skaters have taken to get here, they all have one thing in common. Their passion for the orange and black. I grew up around going to the games when i was 6 years old. I grew up in the stands yelling, lets go flyers. Giving back to the community. Hockey which i love. Flyers fans. It all sums it up. We talked to septa today. It says more people are riding every year. The problem is its trains are breaking down more frequently as well. The good news is theyre getting 13 new locomotives and new rail cars but the bad news here, theyre not expected to be delivered until 2017. In the meantime, septa told us it plans to add more service. Well, it doesnt cost nearly as much to top off the tank these days if youre driving and not taking septa. Experts say its going to get even better. Just in time for the holidays. Take a look at what youre paying where you live. In the philadelphia five county region, its 3. 31 for a gallon of regular gasoline. In delaware, 3. 08. And in new jersey, 3. 06. Aaa says gas prices are dropped about 40 cents a gallon since the 4th of july. Theyre expected to drop another 20 cents a gallon before the end of the year. Gas prices are going to fall to lows we havent seen since 2010 this winter. Dont expect it to last. By spring gas prices will rise again and most people will be pretty unhappy with the price that theyre paying at the pump. Unfortunately, the laws of supply and demand and increased driving next spring and summer are expected to push prices back up, so enjoy it while it lasts. Thats the question before a Montgomery County courtroom right now. Now that a mans been convicted of murdering a grandmother and baby. The guilty verdict came less than an hour ago. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante has been inside the courtroom. Deanna, whats going on right now . Reporter right now, the mother of Raghunandan Yandamuri is on the witness stand with the help of an interpreter telling a jury she wants them to spare her sons life. That questioning has just begun now. We spoke with the Defense Attorneys immediately after that verdict came down from the jury. Defense attorney Steven Heckman who youll recall yandamuri fired was standing by as standby counsel. He had pointed words when he emerged from the courtroom after the guilty verdicts were read. He said his client went 180 degrees, put on a defense he did not agree with. We spoke with nandamuris attorney whos representing him through the penalty phase. Heres what he had to say about his client. I think its fair to say that he was stunned. He he thought that he was going to have a different verdict. Whether or not he that seems plausible to Court Observers is deba debateable. He thought he was going to get a better verdict and he was stunned. His defense all along was he didnt do it. Reporter do you think now in front of the jury hell take responsibility in order to try to spare his life . I think well have to see.
