The snow now is still in the i95 corridor here moving into gloucester pemberton. All seeing a steady snowfall coming down. This is what it looks like from a live camera on i95. As we head into the next 30 minutes or so expect the steady snowfall to keep coming down. Were seeing more of a mix in cape may and maurice river. As we fly you over to the suburbs, you can see theres still steady snow coming down in allentown and parts of the poconos. Thats a good camera there. Over the next few hours well see more tapering. As i continue to track this fastmoving slipper, our next concern will be how much snow we saw, a county by county forecast. Then im head at saturdays snow. Ill go over the details on that in my first alert sevenday forecast. Our team of reporters is out covering where the snow is having the biggest impact right now. Nbc10 Mitch Blacher live in center city. Has the snow slowed down the drive for people heading home . Reporter this is about as light an evening commute as youll see. A lot of people headed out of work and back home early. We are at 15th and jfk right in front of city hall. The streets, you can see, they are flowing pretty well. There arent many cars on the streets. This would usually be a congested time in evening rush. The city actually had 80 trucks out last night to put down that brine solution as well as salt the streets. They salted the main and primary streets as well as secondary streets and its turned out wonderfully for the commute in center city. Back to you in the studio. Nbc10s Christine Maddela is tracking the Road Conditions for us. As we take a look outside, we are seeing a bit of a slowdown. Mitch said theres not a lot of people on the roads. That is correct for the most part. 95 southbound is one of those exceptions. You can see out there, there are quite a few people out there. It is jammed on the southbound side. Take a look at the grassy area in millville, new jersey here. Not so much on the road but the grassy surfaces, the medians you are seeing accumulations out there. Same goes for the delaware area. Mostly on the grassy surfaces. Be careful because we could see icing later on as the temperature drops. Mass transit, be kafshlgs its slippery out there on septa walkways and platforms. Patco is experiencing 10 to 15 minute delays and new Jersey Transit is crosshonoring its tickets. You can expect if youre flying out tonight, there is a delay at the airport. Its red, major delay. So check with your airline before you go. Now, the philadelphia Streets Department had several trucks, 80 in fact out there salting the roads. Lets check in xngs Randy Gyllenhaal in stormforce10 on broad street. Is that making a difference out there . Reporter a bit of rush hour traffic as we head toward south philadelphia on broad street. Weve been up and down the highways, the interstates. Those were pretty rough. Especially on 95 the visibility was low. As mitch told you on broad street, clear roads. The sidewalks are picking up a bit of snow but the traffic is moving. The roads arent getting much accumulation so traffic is moving pretty fast. We did speak to penndot earlier today. They tell us they have more than 300 salt trucks on the road. Those drivers will be extending their shift into the night. Our crews will be on duty all throughout today, through the night. And actually after midnight into the following day, making sure our roads are clear and passable for the morning rush hour. Reporter back here live. Several School Districts sent students home early. Nbc10 doug shimell was in Chester County where the first flakes started to fall this afternoon. What are the conditions like where you are right now . Reporter well the snow has been steady all afternoon here in Chester County. Pretty much sticking to the roadsides but not necessarily all of the streets. But its exactly this weather that forced almost all of the School Districts here to send their students home early today. The bell rang about 12 40, two hours early at west dowling town high school. It sent a steady scream of students and teachers to their cars. They have canceled all afterschool extracurricular activities. The superintendent tells me to avoid a nightmare scenario of having their students stranded at school. The Deadly Police shooting is building tension between bridgetons community and its police department. And activists want new jerseys attorney general to take up the case. Activists and friends of reed gathered, alleging he was targeted and officers involved have a history of harassment. Jerome reed complied to the officers demand. Got out of the car. And he received a hail of bullets. Reporter a highranking south jersey officer who watched the video multiple times tells nbc10 he sees a defiant and belligerent passenger. After police grabbed and tossed the silver handgun from the car. Leroy puts his hand out the window. On the right though it appears reed is shoving at the door, held by the officer, no hands in sight that civil rights activist claims the lead prosecutor in Cumberland County knows the Police Officer who pulled the trigger. We tried to ask the Prosecutors Office about that today. They wouldnt answer questions but they did say the second in charge would now oversee this case. Dont move reporter the Prosecutors Office also suggested frustration today over the release of the video by the city of bridgeton under the open public records act. Police that in turn have harassed me reporter as neighbors sound off about wanting the cop involved, off the force and a tainted investigation. Shes very distraught. She seen the immediate, yeah you know media play out her husbands death over and over again. Reporter the south jersey officer who spoke to us said you can hear fear in the officers voice. And an officers level of using deadly force is a lot lower than the average citizen. From bridgeton, cydney long, nbc10 news. Today a jury found former philadelphia sportscaster Don Tollefson guilty on all counts in his fraud trial. Bucks county prosecutors accused the 62yearold of selling fake forged travel packages for charity. The victims lost around 340,000. Tollefson now faces 37 years in prison. Tonight a grand jury is recommending that pennsylvanias attorney general face felony charges for allegedly leaking confidential information. Now, its up to Montgomery Countys District Attorney as to whether or not to prosecute Kathleen Kane. Deanna durante spoke with legal experts about what this could mean. We move to unseal those documents reporter Kathleen Kane says this stack of 93 documents is something she wanted unsealed. But this document says, she wanted them kept from public view. Thats not what she wanted. Thats clearly not what she wanted. Shes also the one who insists on transparency. And yet shes the one who filed the order filed for an order to keep everything sealed. Reporter we asked a bucks county lawyer who ran grand juries for 20 years to go over the documents. He has no part in the kane case. You have an attorney general whose recommendation is the crime of perjury and related offenses be filed against her. Reporter kane told reporters shes done nothing wrong. According to the court documents, a grand jury is recommending perjury, oppression and obstruction charges against her. They start looking for grand jury leeblgz. They cant find grand jury leaks so they go and make things up. Thats exactly what this is. Reporter you say its made up . No case is established against you at all . Im telling you, there is no there is no leaks or they would have charged it and they didnt. Reporter the Attorney Says there is no crime called grand jury leak so thats why he says the grand jury is recommending obstruction charges. Once we see those documents well know what she did illegally, allegedly. Reporter deanna durante, nbc10 news. New at 6 00 from Montgomery County the skeel board voted unanimously last night to oust natalie thomas. Thomas has battled with the Teachers Union and administrators since taking the job two years ago. Thomas will stay on the payroll through the end of february. Exsuperintendent William Kiefer will replace thomas on an interim basis. Nbc10 first alert weather monitoring our quick clipper of snow moving through the area. Good news here it will be over by the end of this night. But it may not be the only snow were seeing this week. Thats right. Once we get through tonight, on this first alert weather day, more snow could be headed our way this weekend. Ill have snowfall totals from todays clipper and what you should know about the possible noreaster on saturday. Mostly wet, but the snow could make some of the roads out there slick. Since the flakes started falling, weve seen heavy consistent bands of snow moving through delaware. Reporter renee, were at marsh and silverside road in north wilmington. The roads arent too bad. A little slippery area there. All the schools got out early. New castle and kent counties in particular this is how much we got. Can you see it in the grass. If you come over to this car, this car was uncovered when we first got here. You can see how much this has gotten in about an hour and a half. Theres a pretty good coating on this car here. Not too bad overall. The warning i have tonight for you is really about walking out if you have to take the dog out walk through the neighborhood or go out to your car, you can see what youre dealing with here down on the black top surfaces. So, even though the roads arent too bad, unsalted areas in parking lots thats gotten a little tricky tonight so be extra careful and thanks to the people all over delaware tweeting us pictures showing us some of the worst accumulations, particularly down in kent county. Her full forecast in a few minutes. New at 6 00 a philadelphia Police Officer fired twice is now suing commissioner charles ramsey. According to philly. Com, John Hargraves iii says ramsey uses a disciplinary manner that discriminates against minorities. He was fired first in 2003 and won his job back through arbitration. He was fired a second time in 2012 after being charged with domestic violence. He was later acquitted. Now to the jersey shore. An ocean county detective died after crashing his car earlier this month. John Scott Stevens worked for the Prosecutors Office. Today black and purple bunting was placed outside the Prosecutors Office in toms river. Stevens had served there for almost 15 years. Nbc10 obtained video of this crash that killed him taken by a local photographer. He was arrested after refusing to hand over his camera to police. The Prosecutor Says the charges against him will be dismissed. The family of a comedian killed in the new jersey turnpike crash that seriously injured tracy morgan settled a wrongful death lawsuit against walmart. James morgan was riding back last june and a walmart tractortrailer slammed into their limo. Mcnair died. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury. The trucks driver hadnt slept in more than 24 hours. And a shakeup in the race for mayor of philadelphia. Democratic ken trujillo says hes dropping out. He announced the decision by releasing a statement this afternoon. He says he has Family Matters that require his full attention. He is the second candidate to leave the race. Terry gillen dropped out earlier this month. That leaves five candidates in democratic primary. Back to the weather. A live look at our cape may camera where weve seen heavy snow at the shore. For the latest on the system and impact region by region lets go to first alert meteorologist brilt Brittney Shipp. What were seeing right now speaking of cape may, is more clearing. Just before the clearing we saw some snowfall switching to more of a mix and heavy rainfall. Well start to see most of the system clearing up. Its going to clear from west to east. You can see for the northern and central parts of delaware were already seeing clearing. Same thing as we head into millville over the past 20 minutes or so. Weve seen some light snowfall tapering off. The same is true along the i95 corridor, if youre closer to Chester County not seeing as many snowflakes. A steady snow coming down and parts of newark town stretching out. This is center city the snowflakes are still flying. As we head into the next hour well start to see the snow tapering off. Allentown still with the light snowfall. Even the poconos, were still getting a good snowfall coming down at a decent clip. Again, were starting to see the system tucker out. In the next hour hour and a half we are going to see closer to 8 p. M. Most of the snow confined to the poconos. Temperatures cold there at 25 degrees. And closer to 9 00 poconos should stop seeing snowfall. Along the i95 corridor hopefully youre able to make it home safely from work. We could see a few lingering snow showers. For the most part most of the system will continue to push off to the east and the northeast. Along the shore here we could see more snow tapering off. It will take a while. Closer to 10 p. M. Temperatures at 32 degrees. You can see in cape may, temperatures just above freezing. Thats why we saw a little more rain mixing in with the snow towards the end of the system. Our first alert impact for tonight, low visibility expected to continue. Slick roads for us. Bridges and overpasses and sidewalks always a concern. Overnight well have leftover moisture plus temperatures dropping below freezing. Patchy black ice will be our next concern. In terms of our visibility its still down in mt. Holly, down to a mile and a half. Down to three miles in philadelphia, which is actually an improvement. Weve improved in dover up to 10 miles. Clear visibility. Visibility is improving here. The poconos still down in pottstown. Our temperatures are just at freezing here in wildwood. Below freezing in philadelphia. 27 in pottstown. 23 degrees in the poconos. The next thing were tracking as we head into this weekend, take a look at saturday 1 a. M. Our overnight hours. Thats when our next potential snow system will get here and will last throughout saturday clearing by 6 p. M. This is an early computer model. Lets stick with nbc10 and well update you as to what to expect with the next system. Tonight, light snow. The possibility of patchy, black ice. Temperatures drop down to 23 degrees. 27 for philadelphia. And if we take a closer look at tomorrow, we are going to see cloudy and cold conditions. Temperatures ranging between 37 and 39 degrees.
