How about that. Reality of war has horrible consequences for many people. People are killed, people are rounded. And there are those who return from a war with wounds to their soul. Its estimated every day in america 22 war veterans take their own lives. Many of those vets suffer the effects of posttraumatic stress disorder. A new campaign being launched today is raising awareness of veterans dealing with combat ptsd with images like these. Organizers want warriors and their families to open up and talk about their experiences. And help better understand the stigma that is on which associateoften associated with ptsd. Joe diamond is behind the campaign. Tell us about your experience serving our country. I spent ten years in the marine corps and i served in fallujah iraq and obviously pretty bad area. We lost some people and saw a lot of the bad things the world has to offer. Telling me about the timing of launching this campaign now. What do you want people to know about vets dealing with ptsd . Time has gone on and i started talking about my experiences with war and as soon as i did, i started feeing better. As to we wanted to do videos to allow veterans to tell their story and really make a difference get it off their chest and open the ice of the public eyes of the public. I did an interview and i kept mentioning the 22 veterans air realized so many 1i68civil januarys had no idea what i was talking about. I took for granted everyone knew i knew. And 22 veteran as day are killing themselves and we dont know why. We realize before we can did these videos we have to make people aware that its happening. In your experience, is it harder what is harder getting to iraq or afghanistan, that a transition or the transition when you get home and trying to get reacclimated into society . Theyre both hard for different reasons. But in my opinion, when you go there, its a limited time. When you come back you didnt know when this is going to end. And youre dealing with these issues and youre proud of what you did, but youre told not to talk about what you did because it might offend someone or someone might look at you differently. So you kind of start feeling like a honest sistermonster inside. Who tells you that is it unspoken or does the military tell you hey, when you get home, try not to talk about these things . When you get back you hear horror stories. The story that stuck out with me was a guy who told his wife he had to kill a kird and al a kid and his wife got freaked out and so she got a restraining order on him. Civilians wont understand what you departmentalt with so keep to yourself. You hear all the time civilians being told dont ask if you killed someone, dont ask this are or that.
