This happened in susquehanna avenue in north philadelphia. Were looking to find out what prompted this shooting. A 2yearold boy is struggling for his life that also sent his mother to the hospital. The vehicle was caught on Surveillance Video. Police say the mother was holing her 2yearold while crossing msacher street. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live. Jesse, tell us how theyre doing. Reporter vai, the 2yearold boy extremely Critical Condition inside the hospital right now fighting for his life. Detectives say they have Surveillance Video. They say two men are inside of the off white color either an infinity or nissan heading west on lehigh avenue. Police say they hit a 19yearold mother who was carrying her 2yearold son. The child suffered a broken pelvis and a head injury. The crime is too common and something has to be done. There are just no consequences. Theyre not catching the people who are doing. This if flr no repercussions it will keep happening. Heres another look at the car leaving the scene. If you recognize the car or the person behind the wheel, call police. The boys mother is in Critical Condition as well although her condition is stable. Shes over at Temple University hospital. Were live outside of saint kristophers. New from overnight, police are investigating a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in Camden County. It happened on blackwood clementine road in gloucester township. The people are in the hospital. Investigators are working to find the cause of a fire. Along hill view avenue. Two people went to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Crews quickly contained the smoke. A man says he wants to be executed immediately. He had an appeal hearing and said he was not happy with his attorneys. He would rather be executed now rather than seeking a new trial. He was convicted during a botched kidnapping plot. He was drowning in gambling debt and tried to kidnap the baby for ransom. We are awaiting word on when a West Philadelphia woman could be charged in the case of her quadriplegic son who was abandoned in the woods last week. This morning, nyia parler is in the hospital in maryland. They gathered evidence. Par lot is accused of leaving her son in the woods of cobbs creek. No food and water. Only a blanket and bible. One neighbor we spoke to is in disbelief. I dont believe its the same woman i know. I see her in passing, we speak. As neighbors we do. I never thought it would come to the point where she would leave him out in the park like she did if thats the case. Right now the victim is recovering at c. H. O. P. Were told he could be released as early as this week. There could be more fireworks in colwyn borough. Police had to break up heated arguments. Last night in the closed door meeting the council of the cash strapped borough reaffirmed the decision to let brown go as a cost saving measure. Eliminated the borough manager job because of cash. They are not confident enough to run a government. The governor needs to come down here. Somebody needs to come down here. They authorized the locks to be changed to keep paula brown out. She has vowed not to leave. They will figure out payroll this morning. Paula brown will be back to gather personal belongings and papers. People in south jersey will voice their concerns over recent cuts and proposed cuts to the states food stamp program. Matt delucia is live in camden. How big is the hunger problem in the garden state . Reporter more people are requesting Food Assistance and they say nearly 1 in 10 people in the garden state depend on food stamps yet lately some people say that the hunger keeps getting worse and the food stamps arent going far enough. Thousands of pounds of food leave these doors every day. At the food bank in new jersey theyre trying to end hunger. The direct impact is unless they can purchase through the snap program, the more they need to rely on money. Reporter within the past year the food bank estimates 150,000 new jersey residents lost about 90 a month in food stamp assistance. Where do they go when they cant afford enough food . They go to food pan tris. Most of them are talking about the cuts. Reporter rosa pena runs the pantry at Saint Andrews church in camden. Shes seen the problem only get worse. To be honest i dont know how theyre feeting their family. Reporter more demand means less food to go around. More cuts to the snap program. That to rosa is unacceptable. I dont know. Thats unacceptable. Everybody can agree they feel like theres a recovery perhaps going on. On the real front lines you dont see that happening as clearly as you do in other areas of society. Police have arrested this man, alan freeman. According to detectives their investigation began at a local school. Two kids told a resource officer at school that a man had broken in through their basement window and wasnt letting their mother and brother out of the house. S. W. A. T. Teams closed surrounding streets and rushed in when they heard screams inside. Had two hostages and an armed gunman who threatened to kill the police as they arrived on the scene. Authorities have charged freeman with assault and other crimes recommending a protection order for his exgirlfriend. Today in washington a colleague will take over senator Bob Menendezs seat. The new jersey senator gave up that leadership post after he was indicted earlier this month on federal corruption charges. A senator from maryland replaces him. Menendez used his office to help a wealthy friend who gave him gifts and campaign donations. Yesterday menendez returned to congress for the First Time Since the indictment. Today pennsylvania lawmakers will take up a reform bill to lower property taxes across the state. The bill would raise personal income and sales tax rates and return the revenue to taxpayers through relief from state property taxes. They could see a 40 to 60 savings. A 2yearold boy from philadelphia is fighting for his life this morning after a driver hit him and his mother and then took off. Police say the hit and run happened as the mother was walking across mascher street in kensington while carrying her 2yearold son. Nbc 10s jesse a gary is live at saint clois tow 49er hospital. Reporter family and police are hopeful theyll be okay. Theyre hoping the 2yearold will make a recovery. Hes inside fighting for his life. This is a situation a relative knows firsthand. I myself was the victim of a hit and run in 2009 and im lucky to be here today. Reporter crystal says this is a dangerous mix. Sky force 10 over the scene in kensington at 7 00. The driver ran down a young mother as she carried her 2yearold boy near mascher street. Both were critically wounded. She almost made it across the street when the vehicle struck both of them causing her body to go under a pickup truck that was parked in the 2700 block of mascher street and the boy landed on the sidewalk. Reporter accident investigators say this shows the striking vehicle leaving the scene. Off white colored either infinite at this or nissan with two men inside. If youre out there and you know you did this then you should step up because this is somebodys life. Half hour before that an suv hit and killed a 4yearold boy. This happened at 6 30 on south 57th street in front of witnesses who tried to help but could not save that little boy. Witnesses say the little boy was carrying a toy as he crossed the street. Surveillance video captured a black suv that police say slammed into that child. The impact threw the boy 20 feet. Police say the vehicle may be a ford edge driven by at the time by a woman. If you have any information, youre asked to call police. Authorities are now offering a 20,000 reward for information leading to more arrests in the kidnapping of a Jewelry Store employee in philadelphia. Over the weekend atf agents arrested one suspects khyree gay. They grabbed the victim in a Center City Parking garage on april 14th. According to police the men shoved her in their van, use the a stun gun on her and tried to get information about the store on jewelers row where she works. Police say one of the two remaining suspects theyre looking for has lived in philadelphia like the man already in custody. We need tips. Gays from philadelphia. Theres people who know something. Meanwhile, officials with Camden County police are checking out body cameras for officers and say they want to put them to use as soon as possible. The department has been testing cameras from several Different Companies and is working to get state and federal grant money to buy them. And a quick nap turns into a scary situation and forces an Alaska Airlines flight to make an emergency landing. Just about quarter to 7. Sky force 10 is overlooking a ship here. This is just north of the taconypalmyra bridge. The tacony or palmyra new jersey section. According to the coast guard, this large bulk cargo ship is empty. Its called the nord explorer. The ship is apparently stuck in some mud there. There are no injuries. The coast guard is working on a plan to get the ship unstuck and to move it you see the tugboats trying to move the ship. Apparently it is stuck in some mud. Well continue to keep an eye on this and bring you updates as is warranted. Today residents of Chester County will have an opportunity to speak out about a plan that would bring a gas pipeline through a crowded community. Sunoco wants to build a pump station to pump propane through an underground pipeline. Neighbors have fought the plan over safety concerns. Recently though sunoco agreed to modify an existing station rather than build a new one and add safety features to the pipeline. The townships attorneys have recommended the township approve the agreement. Supervisors may take a vote at a Public Meeting this evening at westchester east high school. A federal Appeals Court upheld a judges decision to dismiss a lawsuit challenging new jerseys ban on gay conversion therapy. The ruling was made yesterday and it reinforces a judges decision rejecting the claims of a new jersey couple who said their Constitutional Rights were being violated. The couple says the law prevents them from getting treatment for their teenage son. Governor Chris Christie signed the law two years ago abandoning the therapy in new jersey. Also in new jersey state contractors hired to work in Public Schools may soon have to undergo background checks. The measure was introduced yesterday. It would require contractors with access to students personal information to go through the same criminal history checks as employees. Lawmakers say the bill is needed after the company that administers the new park exam hired a Security Firm to monitor students activity on social media. One bucs County School district is bracing for its biggest tax increase in years. Officials in the council rock say the problem theyre facing isnt easily fixed by a tax hike because theyre dealing with pension short falls. On average homeowners are looking for a 70 to 80 increase throughout the year. The larger the property the larger the increase. Its rocked because our ability to pay doesnt typically get a lot of state funding. The superintendent said the district will foot the bill for a 2. 8 billion mandatory increase into the state pension system. Happening today, New Castle County will open something theyre calling a fusion center. Its an upgrade of the countys Operation Center in the Public Safety on dupont avenue. It will help the county track crime and handle emergencies. Power could be restored by wednesday at the former revel casino in atlantic city. The new owner, glen straub expects the new shipment will arrive today and be active tomorrow. They cut the power last week because the company couldnt work out a deal. With the electricity off straub is getting fined because its a sift at this violation. The incident was caught on camera as it unfolded in the degs earth north of los angeles. 30yearold Francis Jared pousoch said he followed orders to put his hands behind his back after falling off his horse. The deputies were trying to serve him a warrant. He says they cuffed his hands and legs and began beating and tasing him. I didnt want to get knocked out base i had to find pockets of air under my chin in the sand to breathe. Little gasps of breath here and there. Ten deputies have been placed on pay the administrative leave and an investigation is underway.
