Heres what we learned in just the last half hour. The u. S. Geological survey say there have been seven earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher in nepal today including the first one. At least four people were killed. Todays earthquakes sent people in kathmandu running for the streets. Many immediately picked up their cell phones to check on loved ones. One man said the first jolt was as strong as the devastating april 25th earthquake. Just didnt last as long. New this morning, here at home police have given us a picture of a suspected shop lifter that attacked a store worker in bucks county. This guy was trying to get away with a card filled with 900 worth of groceries at the acme. When an employee tried to stop him employees say the man attacked the worker. Happening today in atlantic countries county a man accused of faking his death in a boating accident will make his court appearance. He turned up 7 months later. Investigators say he fled to avoid prosecution on fraud charges. Last month a grand jury handed up an indictment on more fraud charges against him. Also today, a man charged with shooting a Philadelphia Police officer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing. William nobblen faces attempted murder charges. Two months after starting foot patrols in high crime areas the Wilmington Police department is asking Community Members for some feedback. Under a new grant a group of officers patrolled selected neighborhoods from 6 00 at night to 1 00 in the morning. Neighbors found the babys burning body in a road in pemberton township. She died soon after at the hospital. This morning Philadelphia Police are revealing Surveillance Video hoping to find the kids who threw chunks of concrete at a school bus. 20yearold Courtney Clancy was on the bus and was hurt by flying shards of glass. Clancy is a student at the school of the future in west philadelphia. She has social and behavioral disorders and suffers from seizures. Her daughter was bullied and she thinks she was targeted. Everything be over. Be in prison and looking back. What he did was wrong. Clancy went to the hospital to be treated with her injuries which included cuts to her eyes. Police say they are looking for six kids in all, probably who live near the scene. Happening today, Delaware County will unveil the new identity. Eastbound lanes headed to the schuylkill expressway from 29 about a 13minute drive time there. No real problems on the schuylkill expressway headed eastbound to the Center City Area. Tracking new information out of nepal where another powerful earthquake hit. About 50 miles from the capital where people are still digging out from last months devastating quake. Chris cato is live with a look at new video just into nbc 10. Damage here tracy. This one was a 7. 3 quake. It struck around noon nepal time. Four people confirmed dead so far. This video is about 50 miles west of that. This is in the capital of kathmandu as the shaking was taking place, this person was recording video with their phone. Kathmandu obviously is still digging out from that big earthquake on april 25th that killed so many people. People here were feeling the effects of the quake. People were running out of buildings, panicking. They said it felt like being on the rough seas. This is near namche bazar. Four people dead. Nepal struggling to recover from the earthquake that was 7. 8. Killed 8100 people injured 18,000. Nepal has asked for billions of dollars in foreign aid and asked a lot of countries to send in helicopters and medical workers to get food and medicine to hundreds of thousands of people there still living without shelter. Police found the suspect but not the cash register. They took him into custody. Theyre waiting on a warrant to search the suspects home and to try to find the stolen register. Today in the Lehigh Valley theyre expected to arraign a woman after she threw her baby off a bridge. Johnesha perry faces criminal homicide. Her son zymeir died from Blunt Force Trauma and drowning. Perry threw the boy off the hamilton street bridge and then jumped in herself. Rescue crews saved perry. The baby died nearly a week later. Police have interviewed witnesses and ms. Perry that day. She threw her son off the bridge she said and she intended to kill him. She is locked up without bail. Today people down south will continue cleaning up after a string of deadly tornadoes swept across their region. Heres an ariel look at the damage left behind in van, texas. This is the result of 1 of 25 tornadoes that hit sunday. Two people died and more than 1 3 of the town was destroyed. In nashville, arkansas a couple died there when a tornado hit their mobile home. They were shielding their 18 month old daughter at the time. She survived. In communities like krum texas, tornadoes triggered flash flooding. The National Guard was called in to air lift people from their homes. A similar scene in colorado after a week of rain and snow led to fastmoving flood waters there. You can see an ambulance swept off the road by the rising water. People inside had to be treated for hypothermia. Its been two years since parts of colorado have seen this much flooding. Ranchers on horseback rode deep water to pull horses into safety. The horses were in a pasture when a nearby river flooded sunday. The family had to herd and rope those horses to bring them to safety. Not enough rain and soaring temperatures its a recipe for crippling crops and local farmers say theyre already starting to see the signs of trouble. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live. Reporter this grass looks pretty good but we havent had a whole lot of rain lately and farmers say this could be a very big problem. The lack of significant rainfall can definitely mean bigger problems later on especially with the harvest later on in the summer. This is especially a big problem in south jersey. I spoke with several farmers who tell me that the sandy soil requires quite a bit of water. The farmers arent getting that right now. This is the time were planting sweet corn and tomatoes. The farmers arent planting as much as theyd like. Theyre using their own water 24 7 to keep the crops growing. One Farmers Market said we have some time to get some rain before things become dire. Not necessarily not yet. If it continues on this pattern, it will be crucial especially during planting season. Reporter of course, if theres a bad harvest, that means that the crop prices could go up and you, of course will end up paying more at the grocery store. New jersey saw rainfall at more than 1 inch below normal for the month of april. Its been weeks since weve had a heavy downpour. If you have a garden you are seeing similar conditions. Check on your plants once or twice a day. Even shrubs need some decent watering. The man you heard from says you really do need to give your garden the proper attention during a condition like this where we havent seen a lot of rainfall and the near record temperatures certainly dont help either. The department is working with pennsauken township to take over their police force. The county says this will save money and increase productivity. They took over policing duties for the city of camden in 2013. Right now the force has about 400 officers and another class of recruits being 2r5i7d. Its an issue that hits close to home. 28 of people in philadelphia live below the federal poverty line. Spirit Airlines Flight was delayed over the weekend, first because of bad weather. The second issue is what passengers found the most frustrating. A gate agent told them there were no tsa agents on duty to process the pilots and let them onto the plane. The flight was supposed to leave at 5 00. The passengers bored at 8arded at 8 00. How can Atlantic City airport be without a tsa presence while theres still people there . In a statement spirit explained that the pilot and the first officer were delayed by weather and tsa closed operation but reopened at spirits request and the crew was able to make the flight. George zimmerman is back in the headlines again after someone shot at him. Police in florida say a driver opened fire. The bullet didnt hit zimmerman but he was hit by shattered glass. The shooter and zimmerman had been involved in a dispute after a road rage incident. No charges have been filed in this latest case. Zimmerman has a history of runins with the law since the jury acquitted him in the Trayvon Martin case. In november of 2013 Police Arrested zimmerman after a different girlfriend said he pointed a gun at her. Prosecutors did not pursue that case. Two months before that zimmerman was accused of smashing an ipad during an argument with his exwife. No charges were filed there. The parents of conjoined twins in florida have plenty of reasons to celebrate this morning. The surgery to separate their babies was a success. Carter and connor were born in december. They were conjoined at the abdomen. They underwent a 12hour surgery last thursday in jacksonville. To know that they have been finally separate and they are stable. God is looking out. A load has been lifted off so much. Hospital Officials Say carter and connor are in critical but stable condition. Theyll be in the hospital for at least a month. The doctors expect the twins to recover and lead normal lives. Pretty incredible. Were certainly happy for carter and connor. Lets go to new york to look at whats ahead on the today show. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a two alarm fire that gutted this twostory home. No injuries. The sole occupants of the house didnt call the fire department. He ran out of his front door and ran down north Old Baltimore pike to main street about 100 yards where the Christiana Fire Department has a station. Quick response but still unable to prevent the fire. It gutted the complete inside first and second floors. Now theyre looking for the cause. No injuries to either the resident or firefighters.
