Mayor Michael Nutter says the city could change the way it handles Illegal Immigrants who commit crimes. Nbc 10s lauren mayk is live in city hall to explain the possible changes and why it has Immigration Groups and even nutters replacement upset. Reporter good afternoon. Philadelphia does not call itself a sanctuary city, but thats what were talking about here. Thats the term a lot of people are familiar with. It has to do with how or whether you work with federal agents like i. C. E. On cases involving immigration. Maybe whether you would hold on to someone for them. It has become a National Issue in the president ial race, but right now its an issue in the mayors office. As the city set limits on how they would deal with requests from federal immigration officials to detain people who ultimately could be deported. Now as the mayor prepares to leave, another potential change. For us, the real issue here is, if we have a known terrorist, who happens to be in our custody, if we have a known convicted murderer, rapist, someone who has committed Sexual Assault against a child or Something Like that, you know, thats not a person that we want here in the city of philadelphia or to just be released out into the public. Mayor Michael Nutter tells me the federal government has revived its program, so hes reviewing his old executive order on working with i. C. E. They might agree to alert the feds if people who meet certain criteria are in custody. Youre in the middle of a transition. Why do this now . Weve been working on this for a while and when i took my oath of office, i stay in office until january 4th, 2016. You serve out each and every day. This antiimmigrant move makes absolutely no sense. Nicole is an organizer with new Sanctuary Movement of philadelphia. The messaging it sends to immigrant communities is that we dont want you here. Both nutter and mayorelect kenney tell me they talked about the issue in a brief conversation. I urged him not to do anything until the next administration has a chance to have this issue and discuss this issue. I dont understand the order, but i cant speak for the mayor. When you take office, what happens . Were going to go back to work, the mayor signed not that long ago. The Immigration Group i spoke with plans to speak out more on this issue right here on monday morning. Happening now, a protest, the way people get rides to and from the terminal live at the airport to explain what is happening where you are. Its kind of uber versus uber. Uber has a couple different levels. The regular uber drivers you call like a cab and then theres the uber black, which drives the higher end cars, the limo cars. They pay 3 an hour to be at the airport, so do the cabbies that come to the airport and wait patiently to pick up their fares, but were going to have a protest in a while because the uber black drivers and cabbies are mad at the regular uber drivers and people at the Company Called lyft that are able to go into the departures and arrivals and show up, pick passengers up, dont pay anything, and dont follow a lot of the rules here at the airport and these guys here are saying and they are going to block the traffic here at the airport, they are saying why dont they play by the same rules. I want to talk to aulie. Aulie, can we get you on tv here . Aulie is leading the way here. Why do you say its unfair . This is kind of an uber versus uber thing here. Why is there not a level Playing Field . All right, theres a twopart, uber black and uber x. Uber black is the limousine version, which is the luxury class, a lot of people call it expensive one, but these are the only regulated class in the city, or anywhere. Why because we have a commercial insurance, we have drivers who are legitimate to drive and pick up people, they are licensed driver from state and from city, and i kind of explained this on tv, but let me ask you this, basically, youre saying the airport shouldnt let those guys drive over there, regular uber drivers shouldnt be able to go over there, they should have to pay to be here . Yes. And uber x supposed not to be here at all. Not here, not in the city, nowhere, unless they are allowed to. They are banned, they are illegal in philadelphia. State of pennsylvania clearly they are not allowed to be in philadelphia. They are still operating in city and still coming here, the lyft drivers are coming here to pick up lyft and uber like brother and sister. They are both illegal. I hear. You can see guys at home, the signs are up, they are going to start blocking the area where the cabs and the cars come through and theyve already talked to people from the airport here, basically, voicing their concerns saying they dont think its a level Playing Field. I talked to somebody at the airport, were going to be here live in the next hour so tune back in with us again at 5 00. Live in philly international airport, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. But its not because more children are suddenly affected by the disorder. Nbcs Erika Edwards explains. Reporter 1 in 45 kids in america has been diagnosed withen Autism Spectrum Disorder according to a new report from the National Center of Health Statistics and is different from the previous estimate of 1 in 68. Experts say this does not reflect a rapid increase in the number of kids affected by autism. Researchers simply changed the way they surveyed parents, asking specifically if a doctor had ever diagnosed their child with autism. When you ask this, youre probably going to get a higher Response Rate of people saying, yes, someone once gave my child that label. The important question is, did that label stick . Reporter if possible, some doctors only suspected kids had autism. What we may see is children with a preliminary Autism Diagnosis who are waiting for that indepth evaluation.
