But the cloudy haze lifted a little better since 3 00 or so when we first arrived today. We couldnt even see the music pier out here this morning. But you needed your sun block to reserve your spot on the beach. We found so many families here from out of state enjoying what we all know and love. Were loving it. Its just beautiful. Its refreshing. The waters nice. The weathers nice, the sand is nice. Reporter theyre from san antonio and making memories this Holiday Weekend. Their sand castle competition came after a morning of chasing hermit crabs into hiding. A music lesson by the surf. A soccer tournament family style. Others taking a snooze in the warm salt air. The fourth includes a strike. The Holiday Weekend in Atlantic City starting with hundreds of hospitality workers picketing the trump taj mahal casino. Nbc 10 was on the boardwalk where Union Members hit the picket line this morning here. The workers couldnt agree with the casino on a new contract. The union said its looking for the damataj to restore the concessions made during the tough times. Were disappointed the taj mahal did not recognize the serious contributions that these workers bring to the industry, to the company. I havent had a raise in the last ten years. 20 cents raise. 2 a year. Thats not enough. Yesterday the union struck deals with other casinos, including balis, caesars, harrahs and the tropicana. We reached out to the taj mahal for comment, but we havent heard back. Bidding a final farewell. The body of former eagles head coach buddy ryan was laid to rest. Heres a video where buddys family gathered earlier today for a funeral mass and paid their respects in kentucky. His two sons in this video. Current nfl coaches, rex and rob ryan. After winning the super bowl with the bears, buddy ryan became head coach of the eagles taking them to the playoffs in three of his five seasons. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf ordered the special election for the states second congressional district. Fatah resigned last month after a jury convicted him on federal corruption charges. The democrat held his seat in congress for more than 20 years. The nations top prosecutor said she will accept any federal recommendation even if it means federal charges for clinton. Loretta lynch spoke about her decision in aspen, colorado, today. Her announcement came after a meeting with bill clinton at the phoenix airport. Lynch said she regrets that meeting saying she wouldnt do it again. She said the meeting will have no impact, though, on the email investigation. Day after new jersey failed to raise its gas tax to fund road work, theres new fallout today. Governor Chris Christie ordered all state transportation projects shut down this weekend. Christie issued an executive order calling on projects to stop by 11 59 p. M. Tomorrow. Thats about 32 hours from now. Its in response to the state senate refusing to take action on a proposed gas tax thursday. Earlier this week the assembly approved a bill which would increase the gas tax by 23 cents a gallon. The plan would also gradually cut the sales tax from 7 to 6 and eliminate the tax on retirement income. Now to the discovery that could get hundreds of dui defendants off the hook in philadelphia. The District Attorney is reviewing the indicatiocases af problem was found with the breathalyzers police were using. Andrea kline thomas went to find out what may happen next. Reporter attorney Justice Kelly defends dui cases. His research for one client may help hundreds more fight their charges. We focus on the machines that they have to use. What machines they have the regulations they have to file. Reporter he found in january Philadelphia Police used an expired breathalyzer machine. Theyre conducted as maintenance a few times a year. Officers did not realize the issue until kelly brought it up on wednesday. The machine itself is still accurately reading and calculating. It was used in a testing process. Reporter police say the readings did not change before and after the solution expired. So kelly and other attorneys now question the accuracy of those readings, as they ask the court to throw out the breathalyzer tests. Obviously it helps the defense. For example, if you get convicted of a1 only without a breathalyzer and its your first offense, the fine goes from 1,000 to 300. Reporter they retested the machines and did not have any problems. Theyre also implementing more oversight. So this doesnt happen again. Hundreds of cases over the past six months are now under review. And some are being challenged. We need our roads safe, but peoples privileges and rights have to be honored. Reporter nbc 10 news. More than a dozen suspects are under address this afternoon after a state investigation targeted illegal drug activity in philadelphia. Today Pennsylvania Attorney general Kathleen Cain announced the results of a grand jury drug investigation that began in 2009. Nbc 10 was in southwest philadelphia where state solicitor general credited state and local Drug Enforcement agents with working together. Were combating these cases one by one, not with street level like we had a press conference last week. Also with the sub suppliers, the money launderers, the suppliers here in pennsylvania, as well as the suppliers over in california. Caine said the pipeline leads from the u. S. Into mexico supplying heroin, cocaine, meth and other illegal drugs. Take a look at this. A nasal spray just like this was able to save a local mans life in one minute. Thats what happened in Lehigh County yesterday where Allentown Police reversed a heroin overdose using the drug narcan. The police found the man lying in the middle of an intersection thursday morning. They said they were able to revive him in just a minute using the nasal spray. Right now, the u. S. Coast guard said an 8yearold boy is in Critical Condition after he fell into a pool while on a cruise. This happened just off the coast of Hudson County aboard the anthem of the seas. Coast guard Officials Say the boy was in the water yesterday for about 8 to 10 minutes before crews found him. The boy received cpr onboard the ship which changed course and sailed towards bayon. Royal caribbean is providing support to the boys family. This is just the latest in a string of incidents involving the anthem of the seas. Back in february the cruise ship had to head back to port after it sailed into severe weather. Meanwhile, people onboard were dealing with a norovirus outbreak that led to 109 passengers getting sick. We have new Surveillance Video this afternoon of a man that police say stabbed and robbed a cab driver in camden on wednesday. Police are still looking for the guy responsible. This video shows you a better look right there at his face. Heres Surveillance Video of the moment it was happening. Investigators say the man took out a knife, demanded money from the driver, while he was still in the cab, and then the cab driver tried to fight him off but was stabbed several times. Police said the man got out and ran off. Cab driver was taken to the hospital. But he is expected to be okay. This evening in north philadelphia, loved ones will hold a vigil for a 4yearold girl killed by accidental gunfire last week. Last night, the boyfriend of the childs mother surrendered to police in the case. The man turned himself in a week after the girl shot herself e. Were working to find out what charges hes facing. The childs mother is charged with murder. A teenage driver from reading and his uncle face charges after police pulled them over for going more than 100 miles an hour. Police made the traffic stop tuesday night in riverdale, morris county. Authorities said the 15yearold was serving as his uncles designated driver. Police say the uncle admitted to smoking marijuana. He faces drug charges. The teenager is charged with speeding and driving without a license. Now, your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather, with chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. Things are changing very rapidly on the radar. Were seeing less and less activity in pennsylvania. More in new jersey. Still not a whole lot in the state of delaware. We do have the one Severe Thunderstorm Warning in burlington county, new jersey. This is until 4 30. And that thunderstorm moving at about 20 miles an hour. You can see it here. And as we zoom in, its covering or just past pemberton right now. Thats some pretty heavy thunderstorm activity going right into chesterfield, new hanover, right in the path of that storm as well. Weve got more down to the south. And this is kind of on the way to the shore, right down 55. Very familiar road to a lot of people. Down through millville. This is not going to be sitting in the same spot hour after hour, but it certainly does produce some pretty heavy rain. This one is actually moving more slowly than any other. Its right near the masondixon line here. East notingham and new london, maybe sliding a little bit into maryland the way it is right now. This is a detection of hail in new jersey. And this darker blue indicating perhaps over oneinch diameter hail. And that itself is moving into a portion of, again, burlington county, where this warning is. Chesterfield looks like its just in the path of this hail. Weve had several reports of hail during the last couple of hours. This is that one cell near east knottingham that we just showed you. That also has hail up to close to one inch in diameter. As we look at the future cast here, were seeing less and less to the north and west. And not actually well organized showers and thunderstorms hitting the shore this evening. And then perhaps just a last gasp in pennsylvania later on tonight. But i dont think its going to be as heavy as what has come through during the past hour. So it continues to be a pretty active now, of course, the forecast very critical here. We do have a chance of a thunderstorm at penns landing for the philadelphia orchestra concert. Much of this activity has already passed the philadelphia area. Or certainly will be in the next couple of hours. And then as we go through the future, were looking beautiful for saturday and sunday. But theres a system coming in from the west. Weve got clouds coming in late sunday, and sunday night. And this is just one computer model that does bring some rain into philadelphia for the fourth of july. Other models keep it farther to the south. And as you can see, the heaviest of that rain is farther south. Delaware and south jersey. So as we go to the parade on monday, im predicting cloudy skies through the concert and the fireworks, but there is a chance of some rain. Take a look at the forecast here for the Holiday Weekend. And you can see the weather does go downhill on monday. Im keeping partly sunny skies in the lehigh valley. That will be the best weather. And also in the poconos. While we have clouds in philadelphia, just because we dont have raindrops there doesnt mean the chance of rain is zero. But the further south you are on monday, the greater chance of rain and probably the heaviest rain. And the earliest in the day that it starts. The models really differ on this. Its evolving a little bit faster, a little bit farther north than it was yesterday. So just a little bit more of a push to the north would bring that rain up into the philadelphia area. So obviously thats very critical. Well keep watching the new data coming in hour by hour. Are you worried about the fireworks for philly at this point . Not at this point. The sights and sounds of hail peppering a parking lot. In burlington county, storms moving across the region. Some of them bringing hail. Right there you see it. Some of them are severe. The Holiday Weekend is off to a stormy start for some people. If you see any stormy weather, it depends where you live. Chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz is back to break it down for us. And where these storms are right now. Glenn . Yeah, the storms continue to move, about three hours ago we had the back edge of it, by harrisburg. And now its pretty close to the philadelphia area. So things are definitely trending toward the east, out of pennsylvania and into new jersey and delaware. Now, as we go in a little closer, well see some of these pretty heavy showers and thunderstorms. Remember, this one was over east notingham. That was heavy, it was producing hail. You can see with the purple area there, that would still suggest hail, perhaps large hail of an inch in diameter. Now we have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for this cell just issued for northwestern New Castle County, northeastern cecil county in maryland, and southcentral Chester County. Just happened to be zooming right into this storm just as the warning gets issued. And weve seen it go just south of new london. And its right along the border with virginia. And or maryland. And continuing to track a little bit to the southeast. Now, weve got some other storms that are pretty strong as well. This one just past philadelphia. And getting into northeast philly. Over toward bensalem. Again, with this heavy color here, academy road in northeast philly, and were probably seeing some hail with that. Weve had lots of reports of hail this afternoon. You can see, this is the cluster that goes from northeast philly, up into new jersey, right up the delaware river, right over bristol right now and headed in the general direction of trenton. We have other cells pretty close to the shore now. And this is right along the Atlantic City expressway. So everybody moving down there, has gone through some pretty heavy rain. Again, we have a chance of hail with this, headed right toward pleasantville. Well keep you updated on the current radar and have the rest of the weekend forecast coming up. We have an update out of new york city involving a man who they say attacked a woman in manhattan with feces. The 42yearold man is in custody. Turns out the man allegedly attacked another woman, also using feces earlier that day. This is Surveillance Video. Cameras caught one of the attacks. You see the guy running up behind the woman there, and then thats when he shoved a bag of feces down her pants. Just an awful story there. Today a Montgomery County community has its bridge back. In lower providence township, there it is, brand spanking new. The deteriorating bridge was closed for three years for repairs. The detour made simple trips not so simple. Now the bridge is back. Researchers took a look at the overall meals people were eating, not the ingredients that make up the food and found out that butter isnt good for you, but its not bad. A couple of hours ago, most of the action was in pennsylvania. Now it has shifted into new jersey. And much of pennsylvania seeing a good bit of improvement with one exception, right down near the masondixon line. This is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a part of Chester County, and into New Castle County in delaware, and newark are in that warning area. This is a cell that weve been tracking that has a good bit of hail with it. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning goes until 5 15. This is the track of the hail. Over the last hour or so, you can see these colors are getting brighter. The hail is getting bigger with this cell, getting up around two inches in diameter. Billiard ball size, according to the computer here. There it is, right along the masondixon line, right at appleton road, just about to get some heavy hail. That continues to move right along the southern border of Chester County. This is a very strong storm, as you can see. And its moving into the northwestern corner of delaware. Okay . Heres the delaware border, pike creek more in line with this. And even newark is in the vicinity, getting a little bit of lightning with it. Newarks on the southern edge of this storm. And that is perhaps the strongest storm on the radar right now. We have some other fairly heavy showers. Remember the one that was over the Atlantic City expressway . That has moved eastward. And its going north of Atlantic City. More headed toward Long Beach Island over Galloway Township now, mays landing involved in that as well. The other showers and storms in pennsylvania were in bucks county and northeast philly. And over to bensalem. Now its shifted just east of bensalem now. Heres the pennsylvania turnpike. And i95. So its in bristol, up toward levittown, and those storms, again, theyre all capable of producing some pretty significant hail. Now, as we go through the evening, once again, most of the action in new jersey. But there could be some remnant thunderstorms in and around the philadelphia area to 6 00, 7 00, maybe even 8 00. But after that were starting to see improvement. That means as we go through the evening hours at penns landing, that concert, may have a little bit of an issue at the beginning, but weather will be improving during that period of time. Now, heres the futurecast showing, weve got great weather on saturday. Pretty nice weather on sunday. And then some of the computer models are bringing rain in, especially south of the city of philadelphia for monday. Fourth of july. That includes part of the jersey shore being affected by that. But the parade up here in philadelphia, were just on the northern edge. We just have a chance, a chance of seeing a little bit of rain with that later on during the day. And into the evening. As far as the rest of the weekend forecast, you can obviously see its not as nice on monday as it is on sunday. And saturday is the most Beautiful Day of all. Especially at the jersey shore, and in delaware. I just want to alert you about monday, because right now its not looking so hot. And all those people on the parkway for wawa welcome america. Still a little early to know exactly . Right. Weve got activities earlier in the day. And better chance of dry weather the earlier you can get, the better chance of rain later on during the evening hours. But were going to be right on the edge it looks like of that rain.
