It was some eight hours later before we finally saw neighbors allowed back inside to grab essentials and we got a look at the charred destruction left behind. Reporter alex first saw the fire from his neighboring apartment high above, but fire commissioner says it took 100 firefighters more than an hour to get the blaze under control and for much of the day more than 100 residents were out of their homes. A wilmington man lost his life trying to stop an attack on a mother and her infant in a stroller. Police arrested Calvin Hooker iii on murder charges. Hes accused of stabbing Thomas Cottingham last night. Police say hooker confronted a mother about a stolen cell phone, pulled out a knife and chased her on the bus. Cottingham tried to stop it all, he was stabbed several times. Friends put up balloons today in his memory. Generally a good person. He saved an innocent child. Officers had to use a stun gun before taking hooker into custody. Police say the attack appeared to be random. A Police Officer accused of murder now he could face the death penalty. Former Police Officer was arraigned earlier today. Delaware county prosecutors want the former cop to face lethal injection for the killing of valerie murra and the wounding of her 15yearold daughter last ses. Police tell nbc 10 theyve had several reported thefts since the end of the summer and they fear many unreported cases after a resident found opened mail in a trash can. Police say identity thieves target u. S. Mail looking for Bank Accounts and credit card information. They say mail should never be left out overnight and if possible, take it to the u. S. Postal service mailboxes or to a post office. If you send a check to the mail, could be someone intercepted that, could be it got lost, could be someone compromised your identity and then used that to make other purchases, so you want to keep an eye on your statements all the time. U. S. Postal inspectors office says mail theft is a federal crime and these types of thefts usually happen in a group of neighborhoods all at once. At the jersey shore, a viewing of the papal mass appears to be resolved. A group called americans united for a separation of church and state raised constitutional concerns, they were fighting the live broadcast of the mass at a large screen at its convention hall. Americans united took issue with reports suggesting the city was organizing the event on september 27th. Satellite radar, no clouds, no rain and its all because of a big area of High Pressure thats keeping us dry, even all the way off to our west. We really dont have any rain approaching the area. The closest is all the way down in florida and thats going to stay well to our south. Heres the area of High Pressure keeping us nice and dry, also sunny. Watch what happens over the next few days, this high is just going to linger through the end of the week, eventually moving offshore by friday, turning winds from the south. Youll notice by saturday an increase in humidity, nothing unbearable. Then the cold front moves through going into sunday, should be a dry cold front, we dont expect rain for this.
