Others are also using the time to visit the museums in the area. This block party is really a familyfriendly event. Thats attracted both locals and out of town visitors. Oh do we dare say. Were keeping a close eye on the system. That is for sure. Were going to satellite radar right now. We are seeing moisture here to the south and to the west, pushing right into the delmarva area. Some scattered showers in dover at this hour. Cool temperatures in central and southern delaware, primarily because of that moisture thats moving in. We see that. Clouds just about everywhere else. We are looking for, as we take it wider, some more rain on the map here. So this is a system, weve got a frontal boundary thats sort of stationed here. As the boundary lifts, as that frontal boundary lifts, it is expected to bring a low pressure system into our area tomorrow. But i have the timing for you. Isnt looking like its going to be a complete washout all day long. But ill be back with more details. Turning now to train troubles for septa and the thousands of commuters who rely on Regional Rail each day to get where theyre going. Today the transit agencys general manager said tuesdays commute will be rough. This after septa took about onethird of its rail cars out of service due to a structural problem. Holiday train schedules are not being impacted but it could take weeks, even months, until rail service is fully restored. Randy gyllenhaal is live with more on the changes passengers can expect, what have you learned . Reporter the loss of all those train cars is causing a major ripple effect. On the kinwood line it will not operate at all, instead passengers will have to be bussed down up to. Septa is telling us basically every Regional Rail line across the area is going to be at full capacity. Some trains unable to pick up riders after these dangerous cracks were found on hundreds of train cars. Repair for a crowded commute that could clog the system all summer. A warning from septa that Regional Rail lines will be so packed. Were going to have to get up earlier or are late for work. Reporter you might need to fine another way to get downtown. Its going to impact it a lot, especially in the morning. Its already crowded. Reporter septa was forced to take 120 train cars offline. Maintenance workers discovered dangerous cracks under nearly every single silver liner 5 train car. The concern would be that at high speed you could have a dera derailment. Reporter septa said these cracks were caught early, they get worse over time. They were found underneath the train on a steel beam used to keep the car balanced. It could either be a design flaw or something that occurred in the manufacturing process. Reporter as septa works to replace and repair this problem, passengers will be dealing with major headaches. About onethird of all train cars are now out of service and septa warns the remaining trains could be completely full at rush hour, unable to pick up new riders. Schedules will also be shuffled and it could all last for months. We ask for our riders payers during this difficult time. The first days and weeks of this adjustment time should prove to be the hardest. Were asking people to be courteous on board. Were going to need every seat. Get your luggage, backpacks, other items up in the luggage racks. Reporter and these silver liner 5 train cars are all basically brandnew, purchased in the past three to six years. Septa says theyre working with the manufacturer to see if theyre covered under warranty. Meantime they are telling me if you plan to head to work on tuesday via septa, add a lot of extra time. Police say he used a machete to cut off the hand of one of the men who broke into his home. The Allentown Manning call report at least two masked men broke into the home on canal street in northampton and crept into the basement where a resident was sleeping. Officers were outside the home overnight. The homeowner says the men were armed with a bb gun but didnt want to comment further. Doctors found a man with hand chopped off and other cuts. Neighbors woke up to find a trail of blood leading out of the basement. There had to be something serious if youre arming yourself with a machete. Thats a little weird, yeah. Thats spooky, actually.
