Philadelphia native will smith plays a nigerianborn Forensic Pathologists who discovered nfl players appear to be dying at an alarming rate related to a head trauma disease he later names chronic traumatic enlcephalopaty encephalopathy. And i had several Close Friends like andre waters and junior seau die from cte. As a former nfl player myself, i have special interest and so does our next guest. John roman spent four seasons as an offensive lineman for the new york jets. He grew up on the jersey shore. He also played for the philadelphia bells, a team that was part of the World Football league and spend a year with them. Hes now ceo of a local Company Called defend your head with Ground Breaking news on helmet technology. John, thank you for being here. Before we get to the technology i want to ask you about the simple observation you made about some of your former teammates that led to this technology. Tell me about that. Its very, very depressing for a number of our colleagues that we know struggled with with any injury post our career but it was a call, a calling for me and our team that we have at defend your head. Were comprised of a number of people in have played at both the pro level, the college level, High School Level and we feel a hell of a lot of passion to make a difference out there to make the game safer. Ill get back to those people because some will be recognized by our viewers. Lets talk about the technology. You brought props along these are helmets and thiss your product right there. Yes. And how does it work . You found that this helps alleviate some of the head trauma that are happening among kids who are playing High School Sports or pop warner football . We do, vai. One of the concerns that weve had is the hard exterior shell of the helmet. We believe that there needs to be a better Management System upon first impact so this may look straightforward but theres over 15 years of science and technology thats gone into developing this specially formulated polyurethane cover. As you can see its just under a half inch thick. Its designed to form fit any helmet and it just snaps on top . Snaps on top what it does is upon impact it whether dissipate the force wherever it occurs on the helmet. This is a slipperier surface than the polycarb, you can tell by taking your hand and rubbing it along both surfaces. It makes blows much more glancing upon helmettohelmet collisions and the design of our attachment system is us is that it will guide force away wherever it occurs and return to its original position. You and i both played in the nfl so we understand this about the league. Theyre resistant about anything that comes, in i proposals that come their way. But were not worried about them so much as we are right now about kids and families and parents who have young people playing High School Football or younger. So whats the response been . Id like to know the cost because that may be a deterrent to some people, amazingly enough. Well, this is a great Value Proposition because weve had over 15 years of testing with our chief technology officer. It tracks back to dr. Richard nelson at penn state university. This product for less than 100 can and has proven to reduce trauma upon contact so we believe that a product like this will keep our youth a lot safer on the field and one of the things thats sort of interesting, vai, is the fact that in the mid90s there was an earlier version of this product, had the opportunity to meet with a number of the players that youre going note, because theyre during your era. I remember it was a safety on the buffalo bills. I cant remember his name. Mark kelso. Mark kelso. And when we first saw it we thought thats the oddest looking thing. I know. But it started because they had concussion problems. Thats what captured our interest, vai, because is when i first got involved one of the first things i did was meet with mark, had a conversation with steve and what they all said was that this product kept me safer playing the game at a very high impact level, probably 90 g force plus and while it wasnt aesthetically very attractive, is you remember some of the names, we now have designed this so were getting full helmet coverage and we have a cool look. This will sound strange to people out there but when we first saw this as players in the 90s, we all thought nobody is going to wear that because that doesnt look cool. Were so vain when were playing football. So the formerll go executive who is a part of your team and gene di filippo, former ad at st. Joes and Boston College are all a part of your team in doing this . We do. And we have jackie sherl former coach. We have a number of former players ray lewis is a big proponent. Whats the web site . Defendyourhead. Com. We are about making this game safer with a product we think has a great value at less than 100. We hope parents watching who have kids are watching and theyll go to their web site. This is important. John, thank you very much. Appreciate it. Thank you. It doesnt necessarily look like rain yet but silt going to rain. We have temperatures climbing. Youll be getting into the 50s during the afternoon across much of the area. We are tracking heavy rain for tonight. The shore areas will probably get the most and arctic blast for mlk day and its going to be pretty cold just about all of next week high clouds increasing across the area. 46 degrees, a light southerly wind, 10 degrees than this time yesterday. And remember back on wednesday it was 29 degrees and with the wind it felt like it was about six in the morning. Is now were 47 yesterday, 53 today. Near 50 tomorrow. The average high is 40. Well, we are 47 in mount pocono, the upper levels have warmed up and thats why in the valleys its cooler right now. 37 allentown, 38 in reading and pottstown and doylestown. As we go through the rest of the area, 47 in kennett square, 46 in wilmington and mount holly, 40 in trenton. Again that suspicious number at the the airport at 65 degrees because its 56 in woodbine. Clouds coming up from the southwest, thats where our storm is and its moving really fast. This is just six hours worth of motion thats about as fast as storms move in this part of the world. Heres futurecast. We go through this afternoon. No issues with rain but then tonight different story. In delaware, southern delaware up to about 7 00 in the philadelphia area thats when the rain starts and in the trenton an area closer to 10 00. Once it starts its a steady rain, heavy at times, you can see bursts of heavy rain in new jersey generally in the middle of the night so it will fall while youre sleeping. There could be flooding towards shore and it could change other to wet snow in the poconos for a brief period of time at the end. Tomorrow morning its pretty much gone and we are left with try conditions how much rain . We showed you one computer model a little while ago. This is another one showing, again, the same idea, more rain to the south and east than to the north and west. Of course the poconos dont want much rain and its good theyre getting less. Now this is another computer model showing this. Its very consistent that the shore areas will get more than an inch out of this. Lesser amounts in philadelphia.
