We talked with radio hosts at 97. 5 the fanatic, they tell us even some of the veteran announcers were shocked by what they saw. For things to kind of turn the way they did is a black eye on the fan base. The phone lines over at 97. 5 the fanatic were ringing nonstop this morning with flyers fans and onlookers wanting to weigh in on last nights less than flattering display from a few. Just because you lose doesnt give you the right to act like they did. I thought it was a childish way the fan base acted. Jason of wpen has been covering the games from the Wells Fargo Center for ten years. Even he was surprised by what he saw. Flyers fans chucking ed snider memorial bracelets given to them for a special pregame remembrance onto the ice, and at players of the opposing team. When your sports team doesnt perform well like this, it doesnt give you the right to perpetuate the stereotype of the philadelphia sports fan. At one point, the announcer even scolded fans, telling them to have a little class. I understand frustration when you get there and you dont win. But this is just the beginning of a process for the flyers. A different philosophical process of being patient. I think that got lost on a lot of the fan base. The flyers play again tomorrow night. In about an hour, free tshirts will be given away for fans here at the 30th street station. I should also mention there is a hashtag going around, the preston and steve show is asking flyers fans to take a picture of them doing a good deed today, to post that picture and hashtag it as flyerfanshaveheart. Temperatures in the 70s in the philadelphia area. Parts of south jersey. But only in the 60s in the lehigh valley, as some of the cooler air that we have been talking about has come in. You can see we have a northwest wind. That means a land breeze ashore. Thats why its so warm at the jersey shore, compared to what we saw yesterday in the low 60s. Now its 77 in ocean city, 76 in Atlantic City. And even near 80 in mays landing. At this hour, but the problem that we have is the combination of the dry ground, the low humidity, and the gusty winds creating that fire danger. Thats why the redflag warning. We showed you the humidities in new jersey a little while ago. This is in the suburbs outside philadelphia. In pennsylvania. Avondale, 36 . Kenneth square, 35 . Exten, 38 . The lower the humidity, the greater the fire danger, the easier it is for fires to spread. For washington, 39 . Doylestown, 36 . And those numbers generally come down during the afternoon. And during the afternoon, we expect these winds of 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour to help stir things up. So its warm. Its dry. And we still have the issue of the pollen. And the pollen, very high today, tomorrow, thursday. The only break we can get is on friday when there may be some showers moving into the area. No showers around now. But there is some moisture back to the west. Some clouds in the ohio valley, and some showers out toward st. Louis and down to memphis. This is not a real strong system. And over the next ten days, we see a little bit cooler weather on wednesday, and then we start to warm up thursday before we have that chance of showers on friday. The weekend generally looking dry. Its a celebration of art in a variety of forms including a brandnew project that focuses on veterans of colors in the last two wars in iraq and afghanistan. Holding it down, the veterans dream project includes music, poetry, song, video, and visual art. Mike is a poet and performer and one of the collaborators behind the show and hes here with mike miller, a war veteran from chester. Mike and mike. Lets start with you. Tell us about the show and why you decided to focus on veterans and their stories. Well, its a show that we began researching in 2009. We had been working on three shows actually, and this is the third in what is essentially a trilogy that was born out of looking at peoples color and a long time ago during 9 11. And then when we arrived at looking at veterans because of the work we had already done. And we just realized that something we wanted to find a way to make a bridge of communication between veteran and nonveteran, between those who have been through the experiences like people like mike had been through and those who havent because were all going to live with the memories of the conflict. And were all going to live together here. Is this more to help the audience understand what you, men and women have been through, or is it for you guys to help you guys cope with what you have lived through . I think it has, like, a dual purpose. I think it definitely helps us deal with things. Its a form of therapy in a way, but i also believe that it gives people external of the experience a chance to truly understand, because you often hear people talk about things such as wars, suicide, and things of that nature, but when you get to get it from, like, that firsthand basis, you get a better understanding. We get to do it from our words. And its not like someone is standing there and speaking for you. So people get to make a better connection. Mike, give us more about, because you served in afghanistan, right . Yes. Tell us more about your experience and holding it down, what its been like for you, what its done for you. At first, walking in, i was a little nervous because i know when i write down my thoughts, i try to be, you know, really honest about what im feeling. And being honest about how you feel, it always comes with that fear of being judged and things of that nature. When youre around people that have experienced the same things, you know, it makes you feel a little bit more comfortable to share. And you get through things, you know, one day at a time. For me, it was quite liberating because i perform, but i never do the pieces that, you know, i write, because i always think, never do the pieces i write about war because i feel like people wouldnt understand me or would judge me, but here, its like a safe place you can share those things. We may never understand, those of us who didnt have your experience. We appreciate what you guys have done and appreciate your service to this country and what youre doing here for this. Catch the philadelphia premiere of holding it down, the veterans dream project this friday night at 8 00 p. M. For more information, head to our website, well woor have a link at nbc10. Com. Thank you. Can you tell us a little more about dr. Mayer, how long he worked for the School District and if there were any special initiatives, things he was working on . If i get the exact time wrong, forgive me, but i believe steve was with the district for six years. The initiatives that the doctor had under way are too numerous to list. The robbinsville School District has been a leader in fiscal efficiency, has been a leader in providing the best in Practice Academic programs. We have been very highly ranked in the state of new jersey under dr. Mayers leadership. If you could show us what you did earlier, about him being truly part of the fabric of the community. Dr. Mayer was a ball of energy. He was someone that you always wanted to be around. He was the flame that ignited so many things. He was passionate about our kids, our schools. He was an educator. He was also a coach. He was full of life. And he really brought so much of his energy to our School District and to our town. He was loved. And hes going to be missed. And you know, a very difficult time for all of us. Hes somebody i reached out to on a regular basis. As soon as we heard we had an accident this morning, he was the first person i texted to find out how we were going to handle it. Its difficult. He was somebody we all leaned on. And its a sad day for our town and for our community. And were going to be strong and were going to get through it, and you know, our prayers go out to their family. Dr. Steven mayer, six years he worked for the robbinsville School District in mercer county. He has three children, two are in college. Nbc10s Pamela Osborne is live for us at 30th street station with reaction from the flyers faithful. Good morning, pamela. Good morning, vai. A little disappointing last night, to say the least. This was the first home game since founder ed snider passed away, and his fans made their way into the Wells Fargo Center last night, they were given bracelets for a pregame memorial the team had planned for snyder. The game was a rough one, though. The flyer s were down and eventually at several points throughout the game, some fans began throwing the bracelets onto the ice. One of them hit a capitals player in the face. It was what everyone was talking about so we stopped by 97. 5 the fanatics this morning. Fans have been calling in all morning long, wanting to talk about what took place. Well, i think theres a portion of the fan base thats a little embarrassed by their fellow fans. I think that, you know, this is a situation where on a night like last night where theyre honoring ed snider for things to kind of turn the way they did, is a black eye on the fan base. And i think people handled it wrong. It was childish, and you know, its one of those situations where we know youre not happy. The teams know youre not happy, but just because you lose doesnt give you the right to act like they did. I thought it was a childish way the fan base acted. And unfortunately, it sheds a bad light on the sport and the fan base. And you can see fans gathered here at 30th station. They are giving away some free tshirts. The flyers lost last night 61. There still is a chance, an opportunity. They have a game that they play on wednesday night, if they can win that one, then they can continue forward in the series. The wind is going to be blowing in tonight, making it a little harder to hit the home runs. Still going to be relatively mild. Youll see its 75 degrees already in philadelphia. We have sunshine all across the board. A little cooler in the suburbs. Pennsylvania suburbs and in the lehigh valley. Only in the 60s. Problems aside from the pollen is the fire danger. Thats why theres a redflag warning for the entire area until 8 00 tonight. A combination of the dry ground, stronger winds, which we havent had lately, and low relative humidity, allowed fires to spread quickly. And so its something to be concerned about. You can see the wind directions out of the northwest. The wind speeds, 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour. And we have shown you the low humidities in other parts of the area. Right now, well go up towards the lehigh valley. Allentown is 64 degrees right now. And low humidity. And that is another one of the reasons that the entire area is under this redflag warning. Its warm but not quite as warm across the area today. At least most of the area, after the 82 yesterday. Its still mighty warm for this time of the year. The average high is 65. Well be closer to that during the day tomorrow. And then, of course, we look for any kind of moisture. Theres nothing close by. But there are some showers back to the west.
