A car turns a philadelphia street into a disaster area full of trash and debris after a police chase ended in several wrecks. Nbc 10s katy zachrys live in west oak lane. This chase went through several communities before ending in a crash. Tell us what happened. Reporter vai and tracy, the Police Pursuit started in Montgomery County, in whitemarsh township, wound its way through several towns before coming to a crashing end here in this part of philadelphia. This is what the scene looked like. We have some video we want to roll for you. Looked like earlier, wilson and walnut lane, the silver suv that you see in the video that crashed into a tree, well, that is the stolen car that Police Chased through several communities. It took out another vehicle at this intersection and broke through a brick wall before slamming into a tree. Now, were told two men were inside when police finally caught up to the vehicle. One of the men was injured in the crash and arrested at the scene. The other man ran from police but only got a few blocks from here before he was arrested. Now, back out here live, you can see there is significant damage to this property. If anyone had been outside at the time this crash had happened here on the sidewalk or even on the other side of this wall, they would likely be in the hospital right now, the damage is so great. We actually, just before we went on live, were able to speak very briefly to the homeowner. Were going to talk to her in the next few minutes and well have more of her story, what she saw, what she heard, when this crash ended up in her property. Well have that for you coming up at 5 00. He and his legal team will try to stop the prosecutions plans to have more than a dozen accusers testify at trial. Nbc 10s Pamela Osborne is live at the county courthouse in north town to explain. Walk us through this. Reporter well, a judge is going to be weighing that potential testimony today and ultimately will decide if some of cosbys accusers, past accusers, will be allowed to confront him in court. There are 13 women. Prosecutors are trying to establish a pattern through their testimony, that is that cosby himself had a pattern of drugging and molesting women. Cosby has been indicted on allegations of a sex crime against Andrea Constance back in 2004. The prosecution will aask a judge to allow 13 others to testify to back up the story line. Cosbys lawyers, however, will argue that allowing this testimony would taint the case and prejudice the jury. Cosbys defense, which has already questioned the motivation of the accusers, will go after their credibility. The lead defense attorney on cosbys side has petitioned to ask each woman as many as 80 questio questions. That hearing is set to begin at 9 00 this morning. Quest diagnostics, the north jersey firm many of us depend on for drug tests and lab work, is the victim of a massive hack attack. Quest has dozens of Test Facilities in our area, including this one on city avenue. The companys notifying customers that hackers breached its online portal, swiping the personal information of nearly 40,000 patients. Police are investigating a cybersecurity expert in Chester County told us the hackers were likely out to steal identities. Medical companies are prime targets for this kind of attack. People want the information because theyll not necessarily need it right when they steal it, but theyll sell it to the next highest bidder on the black market. The informations valuable because you can create multiple personas and Health Care Claims and prescription claims off of one identity. Quest says its addressing the Security Breach and is taking steps to prevent it from happening again. Experts say companies and individuals should practice what they call cyber hygiene. Theyre urging firms to do more beefedup security and training. Individually, theyre saying you should check your credit report. Chaka fattah will be doing prison time. A federal judge in philadelphia sentenced the former pennsylvania congressman to ten years behind bars. Nbc 10 was in Center City Yesterday as fatah left court. In june, youll remember a jury convicted him of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal, charitable and campaign funds. The judge calls fattahs crimes astonishing, ordering him to report to prison by january 25th. At the sentencing, fattah said he was grateful for support of several people. I want to thank my legal team and i want to thank the support of my family and my staff and friends through this very tough time. Thank you very much. Fattahs lawyers said they will appeal his conviction. Fattah served in congress for more than two decades. The opening of a new 400 million prison in Montgomery County is being delayed again. The state prison was scheduled to open next month, but a spokesperson tells the Philadelphia Inquirer thats not going to happen. The skippack township prison was supposed to open in november of 2015 and october of 2016. State Officials Say theyve asked the office of Inspector General to investigate the contract for the delays. There is no timetable for a new opening. Some students and professors want the Community College of philadelphia to become a sanctuary school. Nbc 10 has learned that two professors started a petition seeking to give the college the sanctuary designation. It follows the university of pennsylvanias recent announcement that it will be a sanctuary school. It means they will not allow immigration authorities on their campus without a warrant. Big delays on the schuylkill expressway this morning because of construction set up around montgomery drive. Now, just a few moments ago, all lanes were closed in both directions. Now looks like theyre letting another lane squeeze by, just one on the westbound side. The eastbound side right over here is the traffic thats moving towards center city, looks completely blocked off. You can see the traffic stuck behind it. This project wasnt supposed to be here like this all morning, so of course, well keep you updated as soon as they start to clean some of it up and open up lanes on the other side. For now, youll need an alternate, because either way, if you are getting by, its still going to be really slow, considering they had this side also closed off as well. So, take kelly drive as your alternate. The schuylkills not a good choice right now. Moving to new jersey, a few different pieces of emergency construction. One is in westville, route 47 northbound around route 130. All lanes are closed there. And a portion of that in brooklawn is affecting route 130 northbound around route 147. The right lane only is closed there. So, youll be detoured around that. And the vine street expressway closed in both directions from broad street to the schuylkill expressway with ongoing construction, so local vine will be an alternate for you. But grassroots groups have been protesting and organizing vigils like this one in center city. Theyre urging the electors to vote for anybody else. The groups say president elect trump is unqualified and are concerned his ties to russia and russias alleged interference in the election. Nbc 10 spoke to a trump elector from philadelphia who says the pennsylvania delegation has no intention of changing their vote. All 20 of the pennsylvania electors are 100 in favor of donald trump. I think it will be a unified front. I really dont anticipate anybody changing or defecting in any way. Other electors say theyve been getting a lot of emails and phone calls asking them to vote for clinton or another candidate. Reports say new Jersey Governor Chris Christie is working to change a state law that bans him from cashing in on a book deal. The law does not allow sitting governors to accept money other than their salary. Published reports say christies working with top lawmakers from both parties to amend the law. Christie was expected to land a job in the trump administration, but thats now unlikely to happen. This morning a debate over a local School Districts idea of cutting recess short. Its supposed to give more class time for students, but some parents say the idea would do more harm than good. Leaders at the upper dublin School District say right now theyre exploring options and no decision has been made. But last night, parents were already speaking out against any potential move to cut recess times short. Studies have shown that recess is crucial and has benefits that should never be withheld for academic reasons. Parents we spoke with last night agree. Growing a garden, you know, you cant just if you want to grow big, healthy tomatoes, you cant just flood it with water. You have to give it just the right amount. And im afraid theyre trying to flood our kids with knowledge. We will not cut recess, and there are no recommendations at this time. The students at penn Ridge High School are hosting the 20th annual cookies for hospice event, baking more than 1,000 cookies today as they try to reach their goal of 20,000. All lanes are still blocked on the westbound side of the schuylkill around montgomery drive. On the eastbound side we have one lane just trickling by. So you want to avoid the schuylkill expressway until this constructions cleared out of the way. You can see on the westbound side all that traffic thats stopped and backed up behind that. Kelly drive is a great alternate for you now because the schuylkill expressway will not prove to be a good morning option for your commute. You can see headed eastbound with only one lane trickling by and over into the shoulder, so theyre slow anyway, even at this early time big backups as well.
