Happening today, new Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been tapped to lead President Trumps opioid commission. Its a new effort to fight the growing epidemic. Nbc10s matt delucia joins us live in the digital operations center. Christie is not new to this fight. Reporter thats right. He met with President Trump last month. Later this morning he will be at the white house to be part of a round table discussion on opioid abuse. A white house official said earlier this week that the governor would work on an opioid task force. The governor has indicated that his final year in office would be dedicated to reducing heroin and Prescription Drug addiction here in the garden state. And last month, he signed legislation to include a fiveday limit on firsttime opioid prescriptions and a requirement for insurance to cover six months of Substance Abuse treatment. Earlier this month, the governor also took part in the opening of a drug Treatment Facility in south jersey. Before he heads to washington, the governor is scheduled to be on the today show. You can watch that here on nbc10. Coming up at 5 30, a different matter that plagued the christie administration, the bridgegate scandal. Two of his former aides are scheduled to be sentenced today. President trumps former Campaign ChairPaul Manafort made millions from a russian billionaire years before joining the Trump Campaign. Yesterday the billionaire offered to testify about his relationship with manafort at u. S. Congressional hearings. A bank in cypress is where some of the money manafort got from the tycoon went. Banking sources with direct knowledge of the transactions tell nbc news at least 15 accounts were opened here for more than ten companies, all linked to manafort. The sources say in one case, a Million Dollars landed in one of the accounts, left it on the same day. Manafort denies doing anything illegal. A bill that would allow your Internet Provider to sell your browsing habits to advertisers is now in the hands of President Trump. The house voted yesterday to block regulations imposed by the obama administration. Those rules prevented providers like at t, verizon, and nbc Parent Company comcast from sharing your information without your consent.
