These areas are going to be dealing with damage as we see it move off later today. It is a question of how much damage certain spots see and if it will make landfall. Regardless of landfall, look at the wind speeds. Hilton head, 85 Miles Per Hour. Next in line is charleston. Right now at 30 but that will increase through the morning. Radar and satellite shows cloud cover thick, starting to move through. Rain to the west and southwest. We have a cold front coming in from the west and moisture pulling in from the south because of Hurricane Matthew. The result is later today, we will likely see showers moving through. Authorities warn the carolinas and georgia they could see storm surge up to nine feet today and that could cause dangerous flooding. If the eye does come on shore, it will be here in hilton head. Some are trying to ride out the storm, although that is not advised. Firefighters and rescue crews may have to leave the island if winds get too strong. That means anybody who stays will be there on their own. And a star city in florida has storm surge that brought water to st. Augustine. The mayor says flooding is getting higher and higher there. Now just a little northeast of hilton head. As this continues to track the shore, this is the issue between savannah and charleston, we may see landfall. Then continuing to brush against charleston through 2 00 this afternoon, dropping to category one, very dangerous. That track turns to the right, passing near wilmington and still by sunday early a. M. , 80 Miles Per Hour winds. This will clip the outer banks, meaning the area will see plenty of rain and storm surge issues. That starts to drop back down to the south as we move sunday into monday. Thats the projected track of Hurricane Matthew. Most models in agreement with this arching to the south moving through the weekend. For the radar image, this is what were seeing currently. The eye currently very close to shore at this point. If you zoom in, red, orange, yellow, heaviest rain is the eyewall and most dangerous part of the storm. Look how close we are to the center of the storm to the coast. 11 miles. This is a very dangerous situation with something so close to the coastline, dealing with the highest winds of the storm on top of that. Really strong storm surge. Already seeing reports of 5 to 7 feet. Then move to our area, big difference in the forecast. Were looking better. Cloud cover is in place. Thats due to the moisture pull from matthew. This is an extensive system reaching this far out. Rain sits to the west. Thats due to the cold front moving our way. The two combining gives a chance for rain in the later part of today. Heres the hour by hour models. Rain picks up at lunchtime. I think it is starting slow, might be closer to us by lunch hour that we start to see rain over the viewing area.
