We have these long heat waves and high temperatures mixing with high humidity, only way that can break and relief can move through is typically when storms fire off. So that first alert is two pronged for today across new jersey, pennsylvania and delaware from about 11 00 to 5 00, there will be that dangerous heat threat i95 corridor and south. Areas north may find some relief earlier in the day. But areas will feel like 100 or hotter as we get in to the afternoon hours before any storms roll through. But were looking at that potential for storms to roll through by later today. So new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware also under the Severe Threat for 5 00 p. M. Through midnight tonight. So this is kind of a two pronged first alert. Damaging winds, flash flooding and small hail all possible. My focus on the severe storms is the fact that it moves through into the evening hours which sometimes maybe you arent checking your phone alerts or the tv to know where those storms are rolling through. Reporter yeah, the philadelphia youth regatta will be racing today. It starts four hours from now, but it will take place with some changes because of the heat as well as the volumes. Organizers have decided to shorten the 2,000 meter to a 1500 meter. This is video from last year. And they are also minimizing the amount of time that athletes are standing or waiting for their race to begin. It was kind of scary because you dont know where the fire was coming from. Pretty rough out here today. The smoke is pretty thick. I have asthma, so its a little hard to be out. The fire is now 70 contained and investigators are working to figure out how the fire began. New this morning, a man shot outside a philadelphia night club is in the hospital listed in critical condition. Nbc 10 was on the scene along rising sun avenue in feltonville. The shooting happened around 3 00 this morning. Philadelphia police recovered a gun but so far have made no arrests. Also new this morning, police in wilmington are investigating a double shooting. It happened around 12 45 this morning at 27th and north claymont streets. We are working to confirm more information coming from that scene. To Montgomery County now, a woman accused of stabbing and killing her mother is under arrest. The stabbing happened early yesterday morning at a home on abby lane. Police say it was the suspect herself who called 911. The knife was still in her mothers chest when they arrived. Elena house hay is facing a murder charge. Police are looking into the office for that violence. Sean spicer is speaking out just hours after he stepped down from his post as White House Press secretary. Spicer quit yesterday morning. Reports say he did not agree with President Trumps decision to tap new york financier Anthony Scaramucci as the new communications director. Spicer spoke about his decision last night. Sessions has denied discussing anything related to the campaign with that Russian Ambassador. Sessions visit was met with protests. During his address, he made a direct appeal to city leaders to comply with his order to hand over undocumented immigrants to federal agents. They are giving sanctuary not to law abiding citizens in our community, they are providing sanctuary to criminals. Philadelphia Police Commissioner richard ross had a front row seat for that sessions address. He said the attorney generals policy creates a trust in police. He shared emotional hospitals during the investigation including the moment he had to deliver difficult news to the victims families. Ive never heard of a case like this around here. Reporter it was an intense week plus search. And when it was over, he told the families of four missing men their remain were found. Ill replay that all four of them very often in my mind. It was some of the hardest things had to do. Reporter he werent talk about the investigation despite the confessions. He said it was key to work with the families. We found the container first and no human remains in the container. Then what happened is we left the container and started digging sort of underneath it so that we could excavate that, not knowing what we were going to find in there. And then thats when we saw the boys. Reporter but only three were there and he says that deal is what brought jimi patrick back to his family. If i had to do it again, i would do it all over again. Police helped to restore order. There are no reports of any arrests from that fight. This morning we have more details about a sea plane that made a hard landing in new york citys east river. This is video from inside the plane taken by tv producer bill lawrence, creator of scrubs and other shows. He was one of ten people on board when the plane went down. Officials say the plane had trouble taking off from a marina on the third attempt, the plane hit the water. The planes left side pontoon broke and the pilot made the hard landing in the water. Luckily no one was hurt. Well, we know people just dont get a break from the heat, some like postal carriers. In many cases they dont have air conditioning in their trucks and some travel by foot. One carrier we spoke to said the key is to know your limits. We get service talks all the time on signs of heat stroke. And so when youre tired, we can stop a bit or get something cold to drink. It will be what breaks finally our heat wave, but not before one more day of that dangerous heat today still looking at temperatures in the low to mid90s feeling closer to 100. Now a few cells rolling by through parts of Atlantic County and may county and cumberland county. This will be moving out in the next half hour or so and then i dont think well see a lot of storm activity until the late part of today into tonight. So lets talk about that dangerous heat a little more closely. High today 94, center city to somerton. Remember, it will feel more like 100 because of the high humidity again. Low 90s for area like doylestown and lansdale, upper 80s to 90 this berks county. 93 this trenton, 91 in voorhees. Mid80s even along the jersey shore and in delaware, wilmington at 93 today with thunderstorm icons popping up across the man. Why . Because when they roll through tonight, they are not hissing anybody, they are rolling across the entire region. Here is a look at the future feels like temperatures as we go from morning into afternoon. 98 philadelphia, 94 in doylestown and 96 pottstown. This is at 4 30. But notice the stark color difference, cell lyellow to red. Watch that move through. When the storm move in, temperatures will plummet and we should break that heat wave finally by sunday meaning we will not make to the 90s. But this is the longest heat wave weve seen so far this year so still the first alert for the dangerous heat. Now lets talk the second part of the first alert which is the severe storm threat. So we get rid of the storms tha. At 2 00, well have a mix of clouds and sun that is like billing a pot of water. Sooner or later those bubbles may start to pop. And moving through about 5 30, look at that line. Driving through just near dover, wilmington, up to allentown and it continues to move through through 10 30. It may scatter a bit. So some of us could see heavy rain, some could even get small hail possible. About 1 30 in the morning, this finally breaks apart and moves out meaning that we start your sunday with cloudiness but not necessarily Stormy Weather until sunday evening when the second round moves through.
