us for a little while, but then the wet weather is going to move back in. let's take a live look outside right now. not looking bad over center city, however, we are tracking showers and some spots could see thunderstorms a little bit later on. meteorologist karen thomas is keeping her eye on the conditions where you live. she has our neighborhood weather. good morning. >> good morning, rosemary. good morning, everyone. the sun is up and conditions outside not too bad. bumping in philadelphia. 56 with clear skies. cooler out in the pa burbs. 48 in new jersey, 50 with sunshine. we have a dense fog advisory until 8:00 a.m. in the lehigh valley. you can see the fog. 48 degrees. and 53 with clear skies in delaware. we are headed up to close to 70. we'll hit 70 in new jersey. 73 will be the high temperature in philadelphia and the burbs. 72 we're looking at for a high temperature in the lehigh valley and 73 degrees in delaware. so we're starting out with sunshine. clouds will thicken and then we do have a -- we're dry right now. we have the possibility of some thunderstorm activity. showers for sure as the cold front moves through. it doesn't look like we'll have a complete washout for a saturday. we're starting off pretty nicely this morning and clouds thickening midday as this cold front gets closer. you see it's moving fairly quickly. it's pushing from the ohio valley west to east, and we can anticipate later on today the showers, the rain to move through very quickly and then, if you hear rumbles of thunder, there is a good chance you'll get a thunderstorm as that piece makes its way through the area by the evening hour. it gets out of here through the overnight pretty quickly. what we can expect in your neighborhood, 76 degrees for a high temperature in university city. chestnut hill, 74. to the burbs. cooler with high temps in the lower 70s, and the lehigh valley, lower 70s as well. down in south jersey we're looking for 72 degrees. haddonfield, 73. glassboro. on the shore a little cooler. delaware 74. dover, 76. dewey beach, 72 degrees. >> thanks for that, karen. new from overnight philadelphia police are investigating a stabbing in the tie owinga section of the city. a man attacked another man before 2:00 this morning at west erie avenue and 19th street. the attacker got away. the victim is in stable condition with a stab wound to the neck. we're told the injury is not life-threatening. no word on any arrests. new information on breaking news we first told you about last night at 11:00. a man is charged in connection with throwing railroad spikes off a philadelphia overpass. the spikes hit some cars, causing damage and injury. we've learned the spikes damaged four cars on university avenue. the spikes even crashed through some wind shields. a driver who got glass in his eye refused medical treatment. nbc10 spoke to another driver who described the impact on his car, and we talked to police about what they found at the scene. >> approximately eight railroad spikes found on street here as a result of our investigation. one inside the car that it was impaled in. they're eight inches in length and they're iron so they're heavy. coming from four stories up. >> police arrested a man in his 20s. he is charged with aggravated assault and other crimes. in about an hour from now, day two of the dad vail regatta gets under way on the schuylkill river. the largest college rowing event in the country. randy gyllenhaal is live along the schuylkill. looking good out there right now. organizers are trying to beat the rain in the forecast. >> reporter: right now it is a beautiful morning. as you mentioned, the impending storms are coming, so the organizers tell me they're moving some things up and changing a few things around. the varsity 8s will do their final races at 10:30. 10:50 this morning. six hours ahead of schedule. a beautiful scene. i am joined by donte a rower from temple. how are you guys preparing having to move the race up because of the weather? >> because it's up so soon, we have to wake up super early in the morning. we usually do anyways for practice, waking up at 3:50, 4:00 this morning was not too major but different than what we planned for. >> you are the navigator of the boat and tactically making decisions. tell me about your role and how your team will do today. >> when you're in the cox swain's seat, they're in a physical game and i am in a mental game. you're strategically trying to figure out when to push and go fast and read the other crews as well as staying with your own. >> what does this largest collegiate race in the country mean to you guys? >> it means a lot, especially because temple is a winning crew and we're the winningest crew of this event. we've prepared thousands of hours. it means a lot to put all that work into one moment. >> you're hitting the water in about an hour. good luck to you guys. >> thank you very much. >> the dad vail regatta getting under way at 7:00. they're moving up some of the races. thanks, randy. from our delaware bureau, a big weekend at the monster mile. race weekend at dover international speedway. fans watched practice yesterday. they got an up-close look a the garage area and also noticed the jet-dry trucks that helped sop up rainwater from the track. fans are hoping the trucks won't thomas. we're looking at your neighborhood forecast. right now temperatures are ticking upward. 56 degrees already in philadelphia with bright sunshine, clear skies. there is the good news. we've got a little bit of cloud cover and cooler temperatures out in the burbs. 50 degrees down in new jersey with just a few clouds around, but everywhere else down there, inland clear, lehigh valley shrouded in fog. a dense fog advisory until 8:00 a.m. 43 degrees. 53 and clear skies in delaware. later on today, we're looking to start with sunshine and then temperatures bump midday to about 70, 73 degrees. but we're watching a cold front poised to move through the area later on this afternoon. so, sunshine to start just about everywhere, but then the clouds will be rolling in later on and the shower activity happening later on in the day. and there is potential for a thunderstorm or two moving through with that system. right now, our current wind speeds, mainly out of the west, northwest in coatesville at 8 miles per hour. 6 miles per hour in wilmington. the winds will be increasing after the front moves through later on this afternoon. what we can expect throughout the weekend, though, it's sort of a half-and-half day today where we start with sunshine and clear skies but the clouds will be moving in midday and then we get the potential for rain and thunderstorms later on. 73 for a high. cooling off tomorrow. 61 degrees will be our high temperature in philadelphia. look at tomorrow out in the burbs. plenty of sunshine but only 60 for a high temperature. that is well below the 73 degrees where we should be this time of year for a high temp. in the lehigh valley today, 70 degrees for a high temperature. we'll start with sun there. once the fog burns off. but then we are looking for the clouds, the showers, maybe a thunderstorm there. for tomorrow, really chilly. look at that. temperatures in the upper 50s tomorrow in the lehigh valley. rosemary. the nbc10 first alert weather locating stolen cars and tracking down suspects but it was already controversial over privacy concerns. the aclu is now asking for even more transparency. >> it should be no reason to have to pretend to be a company that people trust deeply if what you're doing is not shady. >> philadelphia police tell us they have ordered the removal of those fake google logos from the suv in question. the murder rate in major u.s. cities is rising at a pace not seen in decades, and the fbi director says he is not really sure what's behind the increase. james comey says he is worried, though, about what some call the viral video effect. that's where police officers are being less aggressive because they're afraid they will be caught on camera. the chicago police shooting of teenager laquan mcdonald is one example. comey and ears fear the exposure is keeping officers inside their cruisers and away from people they need to engage. >> officers realize that anything that they do within an instant, within seconds is broadcast world-wide and they're going to be held accountable. >> there is still no evidence to substantiate the claim that the increase in violent crime is related to an unwillingness of great forecast anyway. temperatures mainly in the 50s. cooler up here in the burbs. 48 degrees here with a few clouds around. for the most part we are seeing sunshine, and that will be the ticket for our morning hours before the clouds roll in. so temperatures across the pennsylvania suburbs, mainly in the mid 50s, mainly. a little cooler right now in chadsford. collegeville 47, chadsford 49 degrees. in north wales, 47. fort washington, 47 degrees. if you're headed out early this morning, all you'll need is maybe a light jacket as the numbers will be ticking upward. eye on the sky later on today. afternoon thunderstorms a real possibility as a cold front moves through our area. this morning, though, bright sunshine for the dad vail, getting ready to kick off at 7:00 a.m. by noontime 73. the clouds roll in. by 5:00, 70 degrees with the potential for some rain as well as the possibility of a thunderstorm moving through philadelphia and most everywhere. so right now, radar has us dry. that isn't rain on the radar board. we are dry as the scan goes. but what we are seeing here out in western pennsylvania is a cold front. and there is a lot of moisture associated with this. you see the yellows and the oranges embedded there. there is a bit of convection with the system. it will pick up energy as it moves west to east through the area later on today into the evening hours. it's a quick-moving system, so it is not going to completely wash out our saturday. in fact, we're going to have a nice start to our saturday. by 5:00 this evening we see the leading edge of the system pushing into philadelphia and parts of delaware. so, again, it's going to move quickly from west to east. but you can see the yellow and the orange embedded in the system there, and so we could have some downpours. we could even have some rumbles of thunder and lightning as the storm kicks up and gains strength as it moves closer to our area. by 10:00 it's all but out of here. around the coast we have shower activity in jersey and parts of south jersey. clouds stay with us. future tracker takes us into early tomorrow morning. we wake up with clouds but should be dry in and around philadelphia. north and west, though, very cold conditions, turning some precipitation into light snow in the farthest northwestern part of the state. we should stay dry with the potential of a light up, and mainly clear skies across the area with the exception of the lehigh valley. a dense fog advisory is in effect in the lehigh valley area and counties north and east. simply because they've got cloud cover and low fog there until about 8:00 this morning. temperatures will be bumping. that fog will be lifting out of here. look at the bright sunshine. beautiful clear skies in delaware right now. 53 degrees there. temperatures are on the cool side right now but will be bumping up into the 70s primarily low 70s. philadelphia, 73 degrees. so later on this afternoon we can anticipate that the clouds will take over, and we are looking for a cold front to move through later today. it could bring us some rumbles of thunder, strong winds behind that cold front as it makes its way out of here through the evening hours. for the dad vail regatta, things are looking really pretty good, especially for the start. 55 degrees. by noontime, 73 with plenty of sunshine. clouds will thicken up for the afternoon. about 5:00 we do anticipate the cold front with the rain and possibly thunderstorms moving through at 70 degrees. but a good portion of our saturday is looking dry and sunny. radar has us dry right now. but that will change as we move through the latter part of the day as this cold front right here has a lot of precipitation with it and will be sweeping through from west to east. there is the good news. it will be a quick-moving system. but we could get some thunderstorms out of that later on. happening right now, collegiate rowers are getting ready for day two of the black boat. eight of them training. they'll hit the water for the race at about 7:12 this morning. as you guys have been talking about, the impending storms later this afternoon, that is causing some changes for this race, as we show you video from last year. they are moving up the varsity 8 finals to about 10:30, 10:50 today, almost six hours earlier than expected, because they want to get the final races in. those are the most important races that most people are watching. this is the largest collegiate rowing race in the entire country. we just finished chatting with the coxswain on the temple people. he is the one who navigates the boat. >> when you are in the coxswain's it's it's a lot -- they're in a physical game, the rowers, and i am in the mental game strategically trying to outside a philadelphia bar left one person in critical condition. gunfire erupted on erie avenue around 2:00 this morning. police tell us the victim was an innocent bystander who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. a car at the scene there was riddled with bullet holes. police are trying to figure out who actually vot tshot the vict new information on breaking news from last night. got out the car i went -- first of all i wanted to see was it something falling from, you know, the overpass. >> the suspect is charged with aggravated assault and other related crimes. an accused car-jacker whom police say they had lemon a high-speed chase is now under arrest. michael meyers robbed a shell gas station yesterday and then broke into a home in winslow township acting like he was a victim. he spoke to the home owner, frank sasso who tells us he was desperate for the getaway car. >> he says don't lose your life for a car. i see he has the knife and is going after my stomach. i let him go. >> meyers took off with sasso's car and that led police on the chase. police are looking for a man whom they tell us beat another man and his dog with a baseball bat leaving the dog seriously hurt. the suspect. darren dicarlo. authorities say he beat the man and the dog in burlington county thursday. police have issued an arrest warrant for dicarlo. next week, president obama will honor fallen philadelphia police sergeant robert wilson iii at the white house. on monday, the president will posthumously award sergeant wilson the public safety officer medal of valor. wilson was shot and killed during a robbery at a north philadelphia gamestop store last year. his family is expected to attend the ceremony in washington. the future of the franchise hits the field for his wife in north jersey. yesterday bill clinton spoke at a rally and talked about hillary clinton's plans to make college more affordable and to cut student debt. the former president also made a stop in mercer county. new jersey voters head to the polls for the state primary on june 7th. senator bernie sanders was on the stump in bismarck, north dakota yesterday. that state holds a production cauc presidential caucus on june 7th. he told supporters he wants to arrive at the democratic national convention here in philly with more pledged delegates than hillary. sanders only has a slim more than 2,000 homes and buildings. he says his government will direct significant money and funding to the rebuilding effort. american red cross volunteers from our area are in canada helping the victims. members of the southeastern pennsylvania chapter will be in alberta for at least another week. nearly 90,000 people have had to evacuate because of the flames that are still burning two weeks since the blaze broke out. fun and fantasy. that's what this weekend's atlantic city board walk con at the a.c. convention center is about. the convention is for fans of comic book superheroes, science fiction and imagination. you're likely to see a lot of people in costume if you go, getting their fill of trivia, collectibles and celebrity sightings. you don't have to dress in costume but you can. it runs through tomorrow. in cherry hill at the garden state discovery museum hosting its third annual calling all heroes event. 6:45 right now on this saturday. take a look. little leah still right there dancing with her dad at his wedding last night in new york city. we've been following her journey since she was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. the 6-year-old was treated at children's hospital of philadelphia and has been declared cancer-free. her father and his long-time fiancée decided to get married. they held off on the wedding so leah could be treated. of course, she stole the show at the reception. all right. we'll go ahead and check your neighborhood forecast this morning. temperatures not doing too badly. a little chilly out there. if you have to head out early this morning, sunny skies. that's good news. but you might want a light jacket. temperatures in the 50s with the exception of the pennsylvania suburbs. 49 degrees there. at the jersey shore temperatures mainly in the 50s. warmer in atlantic city, 60 degrees right now. we have sunshine here with a few clouds around, but mainly clear skies. further inland we go, we're seeing temperatures a little cooler, 53 in woodbine. 52 degrees right now in dennis township. we are calm to start our saturday, but afternoon thunderstorms a possibility as a cold front pushes west to east and makes its way in. this is not rain. this is just scatter right here. we are dry on radar. what we are showing you as we pull out is the far-reaching stretch of precipitation associated with a cold front. and this system is what is expected to bring us showers later on today. and possibly even a thunderstorm, strong gusty winds behind the system as well. as the cold front makes its way through later this afternoon. we do anticipate clouds to thicken up as we get midday through our saturday because that will be the leading edge of the system. so clouds out front of that. and then the rain behind it. as i mentioned, there is potential for a thunderstorm or two as that system makes its way through later on today. then we turn gusty and windy beyond that. so 5:30. futurecast, put it into motion, you can see the leading edge of the cold front making its way into the area. so we could see some popup shower activity before 5:30, just out front of that system. but the bulk of it moving through later in the day towards the evening hour. then futurecast tells us by 10:30 tonight the system moves quickly off the coast. residual shower along the shore line, a possibility through the nighttime hours. overnight we should be drying out. and then by 8:00 tomorrow morning the cold northwesterly air funnels in behind. we'll wake up tomorrow morning with temperatures in the 40s. temperatures will be in the lower 30s the further north and west we go. philadelphia. look at this. way up here in northwestern pennsylvania as well as areas outside of pittsburgh could be seeing a snow flake or two as that precipitation -- it will be cold enough out there. so we'll keep an eye on that, but we will be cooler waking up tomorrow morning than what we are seeing temperature-wise today. then we dry out for monday and temperatures begin the rebound just a bit. don't forget, our average high temperature this time of year is about 72 degrees. that's where we should be. but look at this. look what we are expecting for tomorrow. 61 degrees. as we head into monday morning we're looking for an overnight low in the lower 40s in philadelphia. so that is really below where we should be this time of year. all right. so back to today. it's sort of a half and half. we start out with sunshine and clear skies this morning. clouds thicken, and then that front comes through later on and could bring us a thunderstorm. 73 degrees. winds will be picking up overnight into early tomorrow, bringing in the really cold air from the northwest. 61 degrees for a high temperature tomorrow. sunshine on monday, looking pretty nice at 64. still a little cooler than where we should be this time of year. we want to feel like spring. on tuesday, we get a very active pattern coming back as we have got some cold fronts moving through. tuesday, another one coming in on wednesday. temperatures stay in the upper 60s. we'll stretch it through thursday. we bump in temperatures. you see this. we'll actually be above where we should be this time of year, which i am not going to complain about. but again, hang onto the umbrellas as we get a chance for a shower or two on thursday. rosemary. thanks, karen. 6:49 quarterback carson wentz this weekend. yesterday, his first workout with the birds. >> i'm really excited for it. >> carson wentz made his first throws as an eagle. he has heard from some of his teammates, but he has not spoken to sam bradford. >> personally i don't think there will be a lot of tension. i think people might make it out to be, but i think the coaches and everybody will be on the same page and i think it will be a really good working relationship for sure. i think it will benefit the team because we're going to compete. really everybody in the quarterback room and everybody in the entire organization is going to compete and push each other. >> if the eagles decide to sit carson the entire season? >> all i care about is winning. if the team is winning, i'll do whatever i can to help the team, from whether a third stringer roll, backup role. starter. doesn't matter. i do what i can to prepare and help the team. we'll see how it plays out. >> even with bradford here, when the time comes he would like to earn his teammates' respect as a leader. >> you have to earn it with hard work, like i mentioned with building relationships, being around the guys for the start of the dad vail regatta. the regatta started yesterday. the race schedule has been tightened today because of the threat of afternoon storms. so they're bumping everything up to get all the action in. in fact, the championship races will happen right around noontime as opposed to the end of the day so everybody can see it in sunny weather. >> i love that, right? newman university
