Our top story, the tragic deaths of fort hood soldiers swept away by flash flooding in texas. The soldiers were caught during a Training Exercise. This morning, the search is on for four more soldiers still missing. Gabe gutierrez is in texas with the latest. What can you tell us . Matt, good morning. Earlier this year, this unit had just returned from a ninemonth deployment to south korea. Now, military officials here are calling this tragedy a heartbreaking accident. Reporter this morning, a desperate search at fort hood. Five soldiers killed, four now missing, after a flash flood overturned a tacticle vehicle like this one during an exercise. They launched from owl creek and they were possibly floating toward white flint. Reporter three other ko soldiers were rescued, hospitalize and had in stable condition. This military community is grieving the first calvary divisions commander general writing, we are deeply saddened by the loss of several troop members and continue search operations. Fort hood is the largest post in the country. The vehicle overturned in a rugged, heavily wooded area in the northeast part of the insulation. This is owl creek right here. It runs right through the middle of the post right there. You can imagine, that water, after all the rain weve had, was probably really, really moving. Reporter today, most of texas is under a Flash Flood Watch. The historic high water swallowing anything in its path. Get out get out reporte do not underestimate the power of water. Reporter neighborhoods ravaged. From the helicopter, we saw more storms in the distance. There is no place for the water to go. Local Authorities Say it could be days, even weeks, for the flood waters to recede. Reporter neither people nor animals are spared. The devastation rippling across the lone star state. Here at fort hood, the soldiers have yet to be identified. When asked why these soldiers would have been training in such dangerous weather, a spokesman here at the post says that these soldiers train in all sorts of conditions every day. Also, in your car, two feet of Rushing Water will float most vehicles, including vans and pickup trucks. Water, about four inches, flowing at 4 Miles Per Hour, can damage or destroy a home. Its spread into central and southern louisiana, and still goes up into central oklahoma. Rainfall amounts, anywhere from one to two inches of rain. Locally, we could see four to seven inches in southeastern texas to central louisiana. Still, guys, rainfall rates, one to two inches per hour through today. The shooter, Mainak Sarkar left a note on campus that led investigators to minnesota and the discovery of yet another body. A woman he once married. He was certainly prepared to engage multiple victims. Reporter police say sarkar had two guns, loads of ammo and tactical gear. A chase was led back to his home, where police found a kill list. Naming bill clooklug, ashley, a woman he married in 2011, and a second professor. That professor told knbc he remembered sarkar. There were problems but it wasnt that unusual. We thought we were done with him. If you asked me about this two days ago, i would have said, theres no issue here. The guy is gone. It was happily resolved. Reporter Police Looking into a blog that appears to have been posted by sarkar, saying he had personal differences with professor klug and that he cleverly stole my code and gave it to another student. Dramatic cell phone video shows the fire ball after a blue angels jet crashed during practice for a weekend air show in tennessee. The pilot, marine captain jeff cuss, was killed in the crash. In colorado, a member of the u. S. Air force thunderbirds crashed after a flyover for the air force academy graduation, where president obama gave the commencement address. That pilot, major alex turner, ejected safely. The president met with him after the crash and thanked him for his service. A 7yearold boy who disappeared a week ago in northern japan has been found safe. The boys parents had left him in a forest last saturday, as punishment for misbehaving. Doctors say he was dehydrated, had scratches but otherwise was fine. The boys parent apologized for causing trouble, as he put it, and expressed appreciation to everybody involved in the search. Boxing great muhammad ali is hospitalized in the phoenix area this morning. Hes being treated for a respiratory infection. Family spokesman said thursday that the 74yearold was in fair condition and a brief hospital stay is expected. Ali was diagnosed with parkinsons disease in 1984. The same thing that killed so many icons before him, a drug overdose. Priva privately, friends say the athletic performances and the high heels caused chronic hip problems, leading to an addiction to pain medication that was supposed to help. According to the medical examiners report, the 53 musician weighed 112 pounds when he died. Found dressed in black, unresponsive in an elevator at paisley park. The medical examiner says the pop icon accidentally overdosed on a powerful opioid. It is prescribed in hospitals for extreme pain. Increa increasingly, it can be found on the streets, for sale illegally. Fentanyl is the most potent opioid painkiller in medicine. Stronger than street heroin. It has to be handled carefully. Reporter with the cause of death confirmed, the shift of the investigation changes. Its not known where prince obtained the fentanyl. Local physician dr. Mark shi schulenberg was treating prince, but a source familiar said prince was never prescribed fentanyl. There was a physician in california, dr. Cornfeld, who never actually treated prince. The dea sent out a nationwide alert, warning of a spike in fentanyl overdoses and increase in sales. Preparations are underway at the cincinnati zoo to reopen the gorilla exhibit after a 3yearold boy fell into the goril gorillas enclosure. The zoo announced it would replace the barrier that will be six inches taller with wood beams and a knotted rope netting. Similar to this one used for the cheetah and lion exhibits, and one that zookeepers across the country will say itll be more difficult for kids to squeeze through. Before, they had horizontal bars. Now, a child would have to climb over a 42inch barrier, which is significantly more of a challenge. Reporter its relief for parents who say its already difficult to keep kids safe. They can run quickly. Having the extra protection will be really good. The zoo is going to update the gorilla enclosure. Thats always a good thing for the gorillas. What about for your kids . For my kids, theyre going to be safe. Im going to be on top of them. Reporter speaking out for the first time, the boys grandmother believes the gorilla should have been spared. Saying, i believe they could have gone another route. In the end, it was just a freak accident. The Daycare Center where the boys mother works says shes been at home and taking care of her son, helping him recover. We finally have a conclusive report from the medical examiners office. It states that he died from an accidental overdose of the powerful painkiller, fentanyl. He died six weeks ago on april 21st. Whats interesting is we were all reading and learning more about this very powerful opioid. Its typically prescribed in hospitals. And typically administered in hospitals for extreme pain. Usually for cancer patients. However, it can be found on the streets for sale illegally. This is, again, one of the most potent opioid painkillers in medicine. It is 50 times more powerful than heroin and morphine. Its crazy to think. He must have been in an extreme case of pain, to ever get to that level. Yeah. So sad. The other thing that struck me in reading this was that he was 112 pounds. Yeah, at the time of death. 53. Mmhmm. I mean, thats i just cant even fathom that. Yes. He was a smallstatured man, but still with something that powerful, how does it affect the body . And he selfadministered, according to the report, as well. The fact that this is a prescribable drug how did he get it . Thats the question. Thats what theyre looking into. Obviously, thats where the investigation shifts to, who is now responsible for giving him that prescription or giving him or enabling him, really, to have those drugs . Police have questioned at least two doctors. A local physician was also treating him. A source familiar with the treatment says he never prescribed pope yo ed opioids. A close associate of prince called an addiction specialist, but he said he never treated the pop star, or according to his attorney. Neither doctor is accused of wrongdoing. They now have a definitive way to look at the case and will be checking out that in more detail. Im sure well find out soon enough. Seems even sadder. It is. The irony is, you know, of course we all it harkens back to michael jackson, what he was administered. They seem like drugs that, me, you, normal people, would never, ever be able to get our hands on. Once you hit a level of celebrity, maybe, you get access to things other people wouldnt . The u. S. Surgeon general tweeted out 41 people die every day of opioid addiction. Thousands of people die every year. So its out there. Its out there and available on the black market. Sure. Then you dont know what youre getting. This is a powerful enough opioid in its own, pure form, when its prescribed, but you can imagine the black market. They mix it probably with all kinds of things. Very scary. Scary stuff. Kind of a wild story out of florida. Yeah. Theres this guy who was fishing out north of tampa. He fell overboard. His boat floated off, and hes stuck in the water. Without a life vest . Without anything. No one else was around him. He is treading water for 20 hours. Oh, my gosh i cant tread water for two minutes. No. Im the most awkward swimmer to begin with. Here is his rescue. He is fine. He said, the scariest part about the whole ordeal was that it happened overnight. Yeah. So he made it through the day. Then it gets dark. There he is. I cant imagine. He actually had navy training. He said that helped him get through the night. He was a little dehydrated. He felt like he was starting to feel some of the effects of hypothermia. Because at night, it was getting colder. He kept praying and praying. He said, tomorrow morning, as soon as the sun comes up, theyre going to find me. Theyre going to find me. He was spotted by the coast guard. He is fine now. What an ordeal and we have a little clip of what he had to say after spotting the coast guard. Yeah. Flew by me and i thought they didnt see me. 200 yards later, they dropped the flare. I was like, yes im going to live through this thing. When you watch your boat float away, you go, well, either going to do it or sit out here and die. I cant believe that. 20 yehours. Im happy it turned out the way it did. He was, you know he had the wherewithal to tread water for 20 hours and keep himself alive. There are sharks in the waters. I wouldnt want to be in there. Jeff rossen the other day had done a piece about, you know, when you think about trying to find one person by themselves in the ocean, the coast guard does amazing, amazing work. To be able to spot somebody, find them, rescue them and bring them back alive. The positive attitude, i think, and the power of prayer, perhaps, i think it allowed him to keep treading. And the navy training, no doubt, it got him through. Thank god hes okay. We saw this earlier. If youre listening, in the kitchen or something, you have to come to the tv and see this. Come close. Although with a new barrier, its going up, replacing the 36inch railing that a 3yearold boy crawled through before tumbling 15 feet into the gorillas enclosure. The incident led to the gorillas fatal shooting. The exhibit was originally expected to reopen this weekend. That has been delayed until next tuesday. A small preliminary study shows promise using stem cells to treat longterm motor damage following a stroke. Stanford researchers injected adult stem cells into the brains of 18 chronic stroke patients. Have a great day. All week on today food, easy summer entertaining. Whats easier than meat on a stick . Ive got three delicious recipes for kabobs. Ready . Weve already started. You just talk, well eat. Look at this. Were going to do shrimp kabobs. These are about as easy as they get because it cooks quickly. Soy sauce, ginger and honey. If youre going to use wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minute sos ths so they dont or it retards the burning process. Make the marinade. Half is going to be for the marinade. The other half is going to be for basting. Once you put this on the grill. You have your garlic, honey, soy sauce. Mix that all up. Then youre going to pour half of this into shrimp, on top. Massage it in. Spin it around. How long do you marinade . Put it in the fridge for three, four hours. Nothing too terrible. Once you do that, youre going to take the skewers. Thread your shrimp and put them on the grill. Just like that. So good. Let them sit for about three minutes two minutes on one side and two minutes on the other. Thats how quick they are. Unless you have jumbo shrimp. Its an oxymoron. It is. Its easier on a regular grill, too, because they dont fall through. Flip them over. Take these off. You have your marinades. Continue to brush them. Shrimp are amazing. Oh, my gosh. Really good. Now, beef tenderloin. Basically, here is your marinade. Cilantro, pepper my favorite. Olive oil. Red wine vinegar. Salt. Youre going to take weve got parsley, cilantro, oregano. Generally, its nice and neat. Again, only take half of this to use for the marinade. Which, again, youll put in the cubed tenderloin. Mix it up. Youre going to put this in the fridge for about at least 30 minutes. Hopefully three hours. You can leave it overnight. The problem i have with kabobs is i put the vegetables and the meat together and they dont cook. Dont do that. What about the wooden sticks . I said oh, i missed it. I was chowing. The vegetables cook at a different rate than the meat. Make separate kabobs. Take nice pitas, warm them. Yeah. Just like that. Little olive oil on the bottom. Really good. Thats where i messed up. When that dries, you can put your own little fun twist on it by adding a nice victorian blue, a really deep red. You can see the value you add that quick. I love that. What about bringing lamps back . I dont want to say grandmas lamps all the time, but there are some lamps less than ideal in your motif. While this is a pretty lamp, i like to add character to them. This is a brass lamp. I take things around the house and add it to my brass lamp to give it that character. I used a little salt, a little vinegar and squirt it on. I put it into a spray bottle like this. If you can do this, you can see some soft liof the liquidmixtur it creates a reaction with the brass. You get the different color variations. Before that, you have to kind of sand it down a little bit. Right. Use a little acetone to etch it. Once you do that, you can get that look. Heres what it looks like afterwards. If youre afraid of and some people are like, i dont want to get into the chemistry behind it. You can buy products that you can put on top of the lamp itself. Again, theres so many easy things to do.
