We spotted it all the way from Linden Airport about 10 miles away and came to New Brunswick to 145 nielsen street, the cross street is bayard in the heart of New Brunswick. That synagogue, the fire reportedly started up on the third floor, went through the roof. It is now through the rear and side windows of the building. It is not yet under control. It is a multialarm fire here. You can see the intensity of the flames coming through the core of the building. Well take you down to the front door of the synagogue. You can see it is just charred and they continue to pour water through the front door. No word how it got started. So far, no word of any injuries. And just a horrible time for this to happen on the just the start of the sabbath, um, but again, no injuries to report. Multialarm fire, 145 nielsen street here in New Brunswick. Inside, a historic, um, synagogue and the flames are just through the roof. No signs of it being yet under control. Live in chopper 2, joe biermann, cbs 2 news. Joe, were told about 100 families belong to the synagogue and students from nearby rutgers attend services there, as well. Just curious, in the time youve been there, have you seen the fire diminish in any way . Are they getting any more of an upper hand so to speak . Reporter no, maurice. Actually, they have about 15 minutes ago there were some firefighters inside the building you know with hand lines fighting the fire. But due to the intensity of the flames, they have withdrawn all the firefighters. And this becomes what they what the Fire Department calls a surround and drown. What they will do is they will get the tower ladders here. They have requested more tower ladders to the scene. And at this point, all they are trying to do is drown the fire. But you can see there is, um, major flames, partial collapse of the roof here. When we first arrived, there was just heavy flames from the basement to the third floor coming out the rear of the building. Back to you guys. Some International Experts consider this hurricane to be the most powerful hurricane ever on planet in all of history. Reporter forecasters say patricia is expected to remain an extremely dangerous category 5 hurricane through landfall. The beaches in Puerto Vallarta are empty and Police Issued evacuation orders. This persons brother is there. I am worried. I hope he just gets out of the area because theres no place you can hide from it. Reporter about 300 people were waiting at Puerto Vallartas Convention Center for buses to take them elsewhere. Miscommunication led several hotels to bring guests there but the building features large glass panels that could high winds. We were evacuated from our hotel this morning for the hurricane. These kids are twice as likely as other children to develop emotional problems like depression or anxiety over time. Its just something that we can kind of have in our back pocket and, um, you know, something that we can just be aware of over time. Reporter the vast ma the offpicky eaters will eventually majority of picky eaters will eventually outgrow it. But its okay to let your child get a little hungry before meal time. Jazz up your food presentation to make meals different. But trying to force or bribe a child to eat is a prescription for failure. Reporter under a plan code named rat reservoir Health Department inspectsers are targeting specific communities in the bronx and manhattan with high complaints. We did comprehensive assessments of the neighborhood for rat activity and then basically assigned a dedicated case manager to work with that neighborhood, um, on outreach and education. Reporter the Health Departments resident rat expert Caroline Bragdon thinks the spiking complaints is due to trash left on the sidewalk after last winters heavy snowfall when garbage trucks were rerouted to handle snow removal instead. Bragdon has expanded her team to nearly 50 inspecting dozens of buildings across the city each month. When we go in to assess a neighborhood were looking for all signs of rat activity, their nests, droppings, runways and rub marks which are the path that is rats travel. With chip cards aimed at offering better card security. The process every switching technology at every store is confusing and slow. Its the biggest change in the way we have used credit and people arent ready yet. Theres a lot of confusion out there. Reporter the recent incentive for banks to get new cards to consumers on october 1, the major Credit Card Network shifted fraud liability to whichever side of the transaction hasnt made an upgrade to new technology. The bank or the retailer. If a customer comes to somebody tomorrow and they happen to have a chip card, and that merchant doesnt have a chip cardenabled reader, that merchant could be liable for any potential fraud. Reporter the ftc says scammers send emails that seem to be from a credit card issuer asking for valuable personal information in order to send a new card. But not everyone has a chip enabled card yet and now the capitalizing on that. In some cases the scam asks consumers to click on a link which could install malware.
