The killing of innocent people based on a twisted idealology is an attack not just on france, not just on turkey, but its an attack on the civilized world. And we have been seeing a number of memorials popping up here and throughout the other five attack sites here in paris. People still very much on edge through all of this. Evening. We were at the republican square where there was a massive vigil underway, candles being little, easily about a thousand people being lit, there. Our crew had just broken down and we were going to our hotel and we saw a wave of people running in our direction, just a flood of screaming and fear. Of course, we packed up quickly refuge. And we went to the top floor and we were lucky enough to be brought into a hotel room of somebody staying there. At this point, we had no idea what was going on as we looked outside the window, police with weapons drawn and people still running. What sparked this . Fire crackers, they were mistaken as bullets but nonetheless, everybody on edge. And its just the mood here where people are Walking Around and waiting and hoping nothing else happens but still on alert as there are other people still at large. And jonathan, let me ask you this, you talked to a number of people on the ground to follow up what you just said, what is the confidence level that those responsible will be caught . Reporter you know, some of the people we have spoken with, the word they use is resistance. They say they need to be resistant and come out here and show that we are not afraid. The people we have spoken with, parisians that live here say they are confident in the government and in the police that they are providing safety but theres still an overwhelming concern. Think about this, six attackers were suicide bombers. These are people who clearly have no fear of losing their lives so the question that lot of people that we have been speaking with are asking is how do you fight that . And jonathan, it seems life is slowly getting back to normal. We understand that public attractions like the eiffel tower reopening today. The louvre and other museums were closed over the weekend in response to fridays at that tacks and we are told right now that theyll reopen. The eiffel tower, our understanding at this point is that it will remain closed. Meanwhile heavily armed police swarmed a train station in belgian in one of a series of one of the arrested is said to be the brother of Salah Abdeslam who police have named as a key suspect still on the run. French Police Reportedly stopped him near the border on saturday morning but they hadnt linked him to the attacks yet and let him go. The fact that every one of these individuals was prepared to die and equipped with a suicide vest, thats something we need to be aware of in terms of protecting our First Respond isers. People who came to pay their respects at a memorial fled in panic last night when they thought they heard gunfire. Jonathan vigliotti joins us live from paris with the latest on that. We are standing about a block away from the bataclan theater, one of six location where is the attacks took place on friday and where a growing memorial is developing here and where we have seen people action both those who have lost family and loved ones in the attacks and those at home at the time, they all tell us pretty much the same thing, many threw tears that they stayed at home, didnt want to come out and confront this but decided they needed to. But also they said they felt alone at home and they wanted to come and grieve collectively. You touched upon the scene yesterday at the place de la ripublique. We were there for one of the there was a memorial there, fire crackers went off and it was confused as gunshots and quickly we were on the outskirt, we had just broken down and we saw this flood of people really just stampeding towards us. A lot of fear from everything that has unfolded, especially with news that there are more attackers at large. And reports from french authorities, over 150 [ breaking audio ]. Of the master mind. What can you tell us . Reporter yeah, we know the identity, Authorities Say hes 27 years old, lives in belgian but born in morocco. Its still fluid but we are hearing that he was trained in syria with isis at some point between 2013 and 2014. At this point, its unclear how he got into europe. All i keep thinking was, if that bomb was any bigger, if that guy got into the stadium, would i even be here right now. The 22yearold posted this photo of on facebook of the bloody top she was wearing at time. I was incredibly lucky to survive but so many didnt. The post has gone viral with more than 2 million views. Five men being held at the Guantanamo Bay cuba have been released the. Breaking news, Authorities Say they have identified the suspected master mind of fridays deadly terror attacks in paris. Diane macedo is live with more. Reporter the French Interior minister says 104 people are under house arrest after French Police conducted 168 raids overnight. Theyre desperately searching for two key suspect, one is said to have been directly involved in the attacks and the other has been identified as the master mind. They say Abdelhamid Abaaoud oversaw the whole operation. He has previously been linked to the attack on a parisbound train in august and an attack on a parisarea church. Authorities have been looking for him for months now. And police are searching for Salah Abdeslam, the 26yearold belgian accused of running logistics for the paris attacks and renting the car the attackers used to get to the bataclan concert hall where they killed 89 people. Police say one blew himself up and another is one of several suspects arrested in brussels yesterday. And Authorities Say the terrorists used encrypted texting apps to keep the plots secret. Its caused a huge blind spot for intelligence act single digitses in the law to get insight to what theyre doing. Last night, cbs 2 news tony aiello was there when a group panicked after a loud noise startled the crowd. People ran for cofer and some right over the flowers and tribute. And people hid in cafes and ducked under tables. The terror attacks in paris have led to a boost in security out of precaution. You will see more officers in tourist areas and other crowded locations. Janelle burrell has more from the french consulate on the Upper East Side. Reporter police say there are no Credible Threats but we have seen an increase in security at key locations aincluding the consulate here where people have been leaving flowers and notes and candles in tribute to the lives lost. We have seen a large increase in the number of armed Police Officers outside of landmarks here in the city, transit hubs and places where we often see large crowds. Some lawmakers and federal Officials Say the concern now is if the attacks in paris could lead to larger attacks by isis. They say the nature of the attacks has caused them to re evaluate security purse security measures here at home. The fact that they were all equipped with a suicide vest, thats something we need to be aware of in terms of protecting our First Responders. We joined by a former fbi special agent. Thank you so much for taking time out to talk with us today. What do we know about the master mind named in the attacks . He has been involved in previous act tsa. The train attack and attacks. The train attacks and other attacks planned throughout the area. So this is a dangerous man down and neutralizing in short term. Are you impressed with the way french authorities have moved quickly to not only identify the master mind but the bombings and retaliation, the raids going on overnight, just basicallying as quickly as they have . Absolutely. Over a hundred raids, dozens of arrests, the united states, britain, all helping them in the intelligence division, trying to help them out, identify these people, sort them out, where they are and where they could be, what their affiliations are in order to fan out, not only in france and belgian but throughout europe itself. And we are hearing about encrypted texts and how they were secretly able to communicate. Well, we know that they have been trying to do this, develop this technology for years and we know its technology thats available openingly. Its not really classified technology. The government has been using they know that we have been listening to their electronic communication, email, Text Messages and phone messages. Theres a lot of chatter in the air and us this we raise the levels of alertness. So they are trying to defeat our systems of defense. And thats why we also have to be proactive and not reactive. And there seems to be a change in their the level of determination, not only the sophistication, the coordination, obviously isis is not contained. As far as what could potentially happen here, this is an attack on soft targets. And i know thats scared a lot of people here in the west thinking that, well, this could be a blueprint for something they may try on our shores. Absolutely. No doubt about it. They could definitely try something here. We have to understand though that paris, france and europe in general is different than the u. S. They have very their borders are porous, they have recently had tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands fleeing syria and the war there. And we have reports that at least one of the at that one of the aat thatters was able to penetrate the groups of people. And we dont know, they did not check properly who these people that came in through mass fleeing are. Here, we check our people, we and us. And the next night, police say a man walking was also beaten and robbed. And an hour later, the suspects allegedly robbed a couple walking on 21st street, steal ising their iphone and credit cardsment all of the victims were not seriously hurt. And authorities are searching for a robber who is armed and dangerous. He entered the shop and displayed an automatic weapon. He stole 200 in cigarettes. Anyone with information is asked to call police. Police are investigating two apparent bias attacks in brooklyn over the weekend. The victims, a 23yearold man teenagers. They say four men seen on video threw eggs on them but what the men said was most frightening. Not want to be identified. He says, you jewish guys, shoot you. I never thought that would happen. The teens say the men drove off in a silver bmw. They wrote down the license plate number and gave it to police. Jury selection begins in the former new york state Senate Leader and his son. He was one of the states most powerful republicans before his arrest on may on extortion and bribery charges. Prosecutors say he used his position to get his son a month show job. And he is accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for political favors. And the corruption trial of Sheldon Silver continues. The former new York State Assembly speaker is accused of taking nearly 4 million in pay offs disguised as attorney fees. The democrat says federal prosecutors have misinterpreted the law, turning innocent actions into rimes. And today, new jersey holds its firstever legislative hearing on the potential a democratic lawmaker has proposed a bill to legalize, regulate and tax the drug.
