News for thursday, september 10, 2015. Good morning. Im annemarie green. This morning the fbi, other agencies are looking at a string of shootings targeting several motorists. At least ten vehicles have been hit in the past two weeks. Don champion has the latest. Reporter state, federal, and local police are looking for the person whos targeting motorists along the main freeway through phoenix. Why would somebody shoot at anybody at all, especially shoot at an innocent person. Thats just insane. Reporter drivers who use interstate 10 very very nervous. Very scary, very horrible. Reporter the incidents started on august 29th. The latest happened wednesday when the passenger side of this pickup truck was shattered. Seven vehicles were hit by bullets and three were hit by projectiles. Law enforcement is ramping up patrols on the ground and in the air its becoming a huge safety issue at this point, so we want to get it stopped. Reporter so far there have not been any serious injuries. Its just a matter of time before we have tragedy on our roads. Reporter arizona is calling on michigan, colorado, and elsewhere. They have had issues over the past year. Drivers are urged to stay vigilant. Don champion, cbs news. New evacuations where a heat wave continues and wildfires spread. The fire this fire was sparked by lightning on july 31st. It was it has now burned more than 160 square miles and is only 31 contained. Residents were told to get ready to get out. High temperatures are expected again today. And Tropical Storm henry has formed in the atlantic. Located about 250 miles southeast of bermuda. The storm is expected to pass well east of bermuda later today and currently poses no threat to land. For the second straight day, eastern japan is being hit by heavy rains that are causing devastating floods. The rain and fast moving floodwaters followed a Tropical Storm that swamped an area noerkt of tokyo. Stranded residents waited to be rescued. Officials say they cannot keep up. Houses and cars were swept away by overflowing rivers and at least one person is missing. In las vegas federal aviation investigators still doan know what caused the engine of a British Airway plane to burst into flames. It had started on its way to london tuesday when flames started shooting out of the left engine. The pilot slammed on the brakes. Aviation experts say the pilots acted quickly. Clearly the pilots displayed tremendous professionalism. There were 157 passengers and 13 crew on board. 27 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. And the partial collapse of an old hangar at Newark Liberty airport is under investigation. The hangar was being demolished when it started to cave in yesterday. Nine workers were inside the building. Four sustained general injuries. Theyve all taken jabs at donald trump and see him do nothing but distance himself from the polls. This morning trump is taking heat from two other president ial contenders who have been on the rise. If anybody can show me how you can actually round up these people who arent necessarily going to be cooperative and how thats not going to jam up the court system and cost enormous amounts of money dr. Ben carson taking aim at donald trump on his signature issue immigration at an convenient wednesday night. Carson criticizing trumps proposal of mass. I dont in any way deny my faith in god. Thats a very big part of who i am. Humility and fear of the lord. I dont get that impression with him. Carson has seen his poll numbers rise on the support of evangelical voters. Predictably trump responded on the field. He twittered wow, i am ahead of the field with evangelicals and every other group and carson is taking a swipe at me. But it was trump who in it criticized Carly Fiorinas physical appearance. When she appeared on Television Trump is quoted as saying, look at that face . Can nej vote for that . Can you imagine that . The face of our next president . Trump touchdown off a firestorm last month when he launched out at meg beginyn kelly. Im not going to spend a single cycle wondering what donald trump means but maybe, maybe im getting under his skin a little bit because im climbing in the polls. There was less discord when trump and ted cruz coheadlined a tea party rally outside the capitol building. Never, ever, ever in my life have i seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with iran. It is my hope and prayer that every one of those Senate Democrats reconsiders. Congressional republicans are trying to pass legislation aimed at overriding the iran deal, but president obama appears to have enough support in the senate to suh stain a veto. On wednesday democratic candidate Hillary Clinton spoke about the deal saying she would not hesitate to use military force if iran develop as nuclear weapon. Well, the former aide to Hillary Clinton who helped her set up her controversial private email cant is expected to appear tor today. He isnt expect to say much about ben guy ga city other than impose his fifth amendment right against selfincrimination. The new York City Police department is investigating claims that inappropriate force was used when former tennis professional james blake was mistakenly detained. Police were investigating a cell phone scheme at a hotel when a witness misidentified blake. This happened on wednesday. Blake said he was thrown to the ground and handcuffed before police realized he had no connection wo the investigation. It shouldnt have happened. Its something that well deal www.
