Inches or more of snow. Further back, slightly less snow amounts so a Winter Weather advisory in this region. Now, heres the deal. If you look closely on satellite imagery, we have a very, very potent ocean storm. But the track of the storm is going to be such that most times would not be a big player for us but it is such a large circulation and kind of interacting with High PressureEastern Canada that the western fringe is going to get into our area. Timeline about 5 00 a. M. Almost to boston so south shore, southeastern mass, the cape is under way. By 7 00 in the morning its a little to the north of boston and quickly going north and west after that. It is a snowy day with snow continuing well into the night but down to scattered flurries by early tuesday. My best estimate on snowfall amounts would be around cape ann as well as the south shore, southeastern mass, and part of more. Boston 6 to 10. Outside of 495, 3 to 6 inches of snow is likely. Pick up out of the northeast. These are the potential gusts well see. The temperature has been flying up because of the ocean wind. As the wind becomes more northnortheast tomorrow look whats going to happen with the temperature. It is going to start dropping and will drop steadily through the day right on into the evening. It is going to be snow even if it begins as rain. Take a live look at the zakim bunker hill bridge. The timing on the storm will be tough on commuters. Mike . A real tricky deal tomorrow morning. For the commuter impact if youre inbound from the north if you leave very early in the morning the impact is low. Between the 7 00 to 10 00 a. M. Period it is going to be a problem and even for the evening commute as well. Lets travel out to the west. If youre traveling from worcester through framingham toward boston for the early part of the commute a medium impact but, boy, it ramps up quickly during the morning commute and will be a problem well still have a high impact storm as we talk about the 6 00 p. M. Commute. Through the south shore you see as you start coming up through the cape where the storm is coming from. Unless youre going to be driving almost to the middle of the night youll be running into problems. The early and late commute very high impact and even toward evening still a very high impact. Now along the coast were keeping a close eye on it. We have two high tides tomorrow, one in the morning, one late in the evening around 11 00. There as surge out there, waves 10 to 14 feet, but the real issue is only going to be minor to moderate coastal flooding during the high tide and the areas most affected also toward nantucket. Up through the north shore a coastal flood individuals through boston. Once you go south of boston we start to talk about this. A coastal Flood Warning. From hall down through plymouth and through the cape we have the coastal Flood Warning which is going to be centered around the 11 00 a. M. High tide. One well be watching but seen out of some storms in the past. Its taken two full days to recover from fridays heavy, wet snow. Some people are just getting their power back today. Well go live to bridgewater where the new storm will bring new challenges. Some people here have only had power back for a few hours. Now they wait and see what tomorrow will bring. The trucks are rolling in ahead of mondays impending storm. Power outages are at the top of our concerns. Throughout the boston area especially south officials are preparing for a round two hit of heavy, wet snow. We expect Power Outages will occur. In brockton where we found National Grid crews restoring the last bit of power cut off by fridays storm the state of emergency is set to take effect at 5 00 a. M. Monday. We certainly had a lot of tree limbs coming down and taking wires with them. In the canton area where outages were just a symptom of what led to tragedy. Crews from as far away as quebec have been working around the clock to remove trees from power lines. Evidence of why there is concern here tonight is not hard to find. North main street in sharon, this tree came down in fridays storm. You see branches still dangling from the power lines. 49 crews we met up with canton were sent to return home sunday but a familiar call were asking National Grid to keep all the crews here so they can go right back to work tomorrow morning when this storm hits. Theyll be staying a bit longer. They told us we might be stand by a for a little while. What do you think about that . Its okay. More than 500 state troopers will be on the roadways tomorrow. Theyre asking you to stay off of them and let them do their jobs. They are also asking you to report any downed trees or power lines. Newscenter 5. Potential blizzard conditions will have emergency crews on alert. Our Todd Kazakiewich is live in rough one out there. 12 hours from now we could be seeing blizzard like conditions here and making matters worse is that those conditions could coincide with high tides, higher thap normal. And all of that is happening just before 11 00 a. M. Tonight scituate town plow trucks are fueled up and ready to roll. The salt pile was depleted by fridays snowstorm but it is still big enough to tackle the storm arriving monday. A storm that could bring blizzard conditions including minor coastal flooding. Our concern now for the storm is certainly the tide cycle tomorrow and what the trees are already weakened from the previous storm. The storm coming in tomorrow is not expected to bring conditions Strong Enough to threaten the scituate sea wall or the historic lighthouse. Sunday was a mild day on the south shore. Most of the mess from friday has been cleaned up. Power has been restored. But the storm monday will we just ask residents treat all, down lines as live. There will be more Power Outages tomorrow. No doubt about that. Captain monahan offered an important reminder to home owners with generators. Make sure that the generator is properly ventilated to ensure no issues with Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Reporting live in scituate, Todd Kazakiewich, Wcvb Newscenter 5. Debris flying into the air. Oh, my gosh. The scene so realistic, so terrifying, many didnt know what was happening. It was quite a drama. Sophie was at a nearby morning. New yorks mayor is putting into place new crane safety precautions following the deadly crash in new york city friday. One person died and three others including a local easton man were injured. Well, a day out turns to disaster for wisconsin festival goers. They thought a lake was a good place to park their car. Probably typically is. People who attend the festival say they park on the frozen lake every year but this year has been warmer than usual. Turns out the ice gave way, 15 vehicles plunged right into the chilly water. Emergency crews crawled on to the thin ice to save what they all within arms reach of one another, a lot of weight for 10 inches of ice. The minute you drive a vehicle on the ice you are rolling the dice. 10 cars total but the good news is no one was hurt. Always a good reminder no matter how much snow is out there, always be careful. Park on pavement. Even walking on the ice. Harvey, i know we have another storm thats coming in after fridays mess. Remember two weekends ago when we were on the edge and new york city got buried and philly and washington and baltimore . From marshfield south that did qualify as a blizzard and now we have blizzard warnings for the same exact area. And what qualifies as the blizzard, well see if it makes it. You need the visibility to be a quarter mile or less for three hours in a row with frequent wind gusts over 35 miles an hour. That will happen in falling, blowing, or drifting snow or a combination of all three of those. All right . In terms of blizzard conditions. Heres where the blizzard warning is, that exact area where the snow will be heaviest and the combination of wind with the snow will give the most severe conditions. We have a winter storm warning for just about all of eastern mass. Once you get east of worcester or worcester east, 495 east. Still a Winter Weather advisory beyond that for several inches of snow and very slippery going. Especially the coastal Flood Warning. Remember high tide is around 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow. Minor with pockets of moderate coastal flooding. As mike alluded to it is a Coastal Flood Advisory north of boston but it is a coastal Flood Warning south of boston where the winds will be stronger, the wave action will be stronger as well. And again, just like late last snowstorm. Today was incredibly gorgeous. 44 in boston and it is still mild now. The reason its mild now is because the wind is off the water at 21 miles an hour. And the ocean water temperature is in the low 40s. You might say, hey. Storm. Going to go from east to northeast and northeast to northnortheast. If we look in that direction there is cold air up there. Just above portsmouth it drops off quickly from portland all the way up to bangor where its in the teens. Single digits to the north of that. 20 in burlington, vermont. Thats going to get drawn southward as the storm makes its approach. Now, it might begin briefly as rain on the cape before it flips to snow. By 4 00 a. M. Boston is down to 34. By 7 00 a. M. Its down to 32. Look what happens. It keeps falling during the day and during the storm. But being near 32 its going to be a heavy, wetter, pastier snow on the cape with the most powerful winds so they are at the greatest risk of additional Power Outages from the storm. Notice the temperatures staying cold once we get into the storm and beyond for the next several days after that. Now the storm, itself. Look at that. Looks like an eye. Its going to take a track far away from us but is a very large circulation so were going to get into it. As it interacts with a cold high to the north so well get significant snow beginning early tomorrow through the day into tomorrow night. Another storm on tuesday looks like itll stay south of us so i dont worry about that but actually another one not too potent may give us a few inches of snow tuesday night, wednesday or wednesday night time frame. The biggest threat is what happens tomorrow. About 5 00 a. M. Getting close to boston. Leading edge. Notice its already gone over to snow on the cape. Then it starts to budge north but notice eastern mass, southeastern mass is in the heaviest bands the longest period of time. Figure to get the most snow. Right through the commute and even well into tomorrow night before tapers off very late at night. And even along cape ann on the south shore there may still be some ocean effect flurries lingering into tuesday. But the significant accumulation would be over. Want to zoom in our areas north and west of 495. It looks like three to six inches of snow. Once you get inside 495 to boston anywhere from 6 to 10, higher amounts should be closer to the coast. Somewhat lighter amounts further north and west. Once you get around the blue hill area, broxton, to then, all the way down to maybe falmouth could be 10 inches or pockets of more because as the cold air passes over the warm water it may enhance the snowfall. There could be a few bands significantly higher than that. 6 to 10 for the outer cape. 4 to 9 for nantucket. One thing about the wind coming out of the northeast itll be picking up. These are the gusts that will be achieved. Most likely 50 to 60 or higher in the blizzard warning area. Then bitter cold is going to arrive for the end of the week and next weekend. Theres your next seven days. The focus is all on tomorrow and tomorrow night. There could be some lonely snowflakes for the primary in New Hampshire but not a snowstorm that day but a few inches of snow could occur tuesday night, wednesday, or wednesday night. Well probably be adjusting the temperatures down ward for next weekend as it does look like the bitter cold air is coming in. Weve of course been focusing on the storm coming up into tomorrow. Stay safe and theyll take you eye opener tomorrow. We do have good news for anyone who drives a car. The prices at the pump are down again. How much lower they are expected to go.
