So there were kids in here squegeeing last night to keep it from coming into the classro. Classrooms. While water did get into the school before sandbags were placed around the perimeter. It was me yesterday, teachers and studentws were able squeege it all outside. Students did not have class today, but teachers were here at st. Johns cleaning up. While here at st. Johns cleaning up. While the sandbags and cement blocks kept all the water from rushing into basement classrooms, the teachers had a lot classroom materials to put back. In anticipation of rising waters, books and papers were moved from multiple classrooms. But teachers we spoke with say students are ready to come of the students came and volunteered to help yesterday. A lot of sudents volunteered to come again today to clean up. I think it was a learning experience. I know theres some kids here now to help with the sandbag brigade. But i think it was also the kids learned a lesson about safety because we talked a lot of about the fact the waters were rushing fast and what could have happened. Happened. They say it was mostly rain water. But about five percent was waste water. Thatll eventually end up in Lake Michigan. But mmsd says its the best solution to keep people dry. We captured and cleaned as much water as we could yesterday unfortunatly there was just too much rain to capture it all we had to have a combined sewer flow to reduce the risk of basement our highest priority is to keep water out of peoples base. Basements. This was the second overflow dump of the year. The last one was a couple of weeks ago. Mmsd is allowed six overflow dumps a year. But these tire tracks thatleft in the grass yesterday after flood waters was a foot away from pouring in these windows. Trucks brought sandbags to divert the water. And it worked. Teachers spent all day cleaning up what waters left behind. Mopping and disinfecting the floors, and putting back books and papers that were moved in anticipation of the flood. While some water did get inside school, it was unmeasureable. Yesterday, teachers and students were able squeege it all outside. Outside the school, the flood waters were directed through grounds.
