Neighbors tell me that the couple was sleeping when were shot and killed many families have lived in this neighborhood for decades and they say nothing like this has ever happened here. Police say it happened around 1 30 this morning on West Appleton and florist. The victims were a 38 year old woman and a 36 year old man. Two children were home at the time of the shooting a cousin i spoke with says family are still trying to wrap their minds around what happened earlier today. Neighbors say this area has always been safe, and theres very little only lived at the home for about a year, and were very friendly. They hope police catch whoever is responsible. Invividuals that can do Something Like that, theyre heartless. Anytime you can shoot a man and a woman in bed with the kids right in the next room, theyre heartless and they need to be incarcerate incarcerated. Police say this is a homicide investigation. It happened around 330 this morning near 52nd and green tree. A woman was shot but is expected to survive. Milwaukee Police Called to 36th and found a 67yearold man suffering from a gunshot wound. He did not survive. The final suspect in the shooting death of young Laylah Petersen was sentenced today. Cbs 58s david ade is at the courthouse with details. Arlis gordon will spend the next 30 years in prison. With 19 years of extended supervision after that. That. Gordon was in front of a Milwaukee County judge this morning. Hes the last person to be sentenced in the november 2014 death of fiveyear old Laylah Petersen. His lawyer said gordon was trying to carry out a vigilante justice. After a jury found someone not guilty of killing gordons step brother. Hours after that verdict. Gordon tried to go after the man who went free in that case. But instead. 12 to 14 shots were fired into the home with Laylah Petersen and her family. Gordon avoided trial by pleading guilty to Second Degree reckless homicide. And three other charges. Laylah petersens dad. And arlis gordon both spoke in the courtroom this mor. Morning. On december first, carl barrett was ordered to serve 65 years in prison and another 35 years of extended supervision for his role in the killing. Killing. 25year old paul farr, who police say drove barrett and gordon to the home where petersen was shot, has also sentenced to 5 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of aiding a felon. The superintendant says some students have asked for the help of a counselor after four students were targeted. He said, ill need a listthe teen fellow students, and her father. When asked about the list, the girl told officers she has thoughts that she shouldnt think of and she has a really dark mindher boyfriend told police he wouldnt actually go and kill these people and only talked about it to make her feel betterthe superintendant says a letter was sent out to parents, and the school is safe. Its very important that people when they are aware of a situation that doesnt seem authorities whether its the Burlington Police department, the Sheriffs Department or the school. And they say nothing like this has ever happened here an quiet neighborhood, turned upside down early this morning. Totally surprised. Police found a man and woman shot dead in their bedroom around 1 30 thursday morning in a home near the intersection of West Appleton and florist. According to neighbors, officials found two children in the next room. Something like that, theyre heartless. Anytime you can shoot a man and a woman in bed with the kids right in the next room, theyre heartless and they need to be incarcerated.
