Gail community support, and a revamped approach from ucf finally won over the board of governors, who this afternoon approved a new campus for ucf in downtown orlando. The motion passes. Gail dean colson was one of two board of governor s members who voted against the 60 million project concerned with the , amount of money the state is being asked to supply, 20 million. Stewart Jeffrey Tepper is a retiree who moved from long island, new york for the beautiful sunshine of central florida. This was his dream to live here. It s a nightmare. You know, your dream house is now a nightmare. You don t expect that. I m an accountant. I did not know, there s no way you can see anything. Everything is hidden. Stewart jeffrey started noticing cracks in the side of his stucco and also started seeing cracks on many homes in the 140 town home neighborhood. He called in painters, and they told him this was a bigger problem, and that water was getting inside. We looked behind the stucco exterior with construction attorney mike sasso, who was retained by the homeowners association. As you can see, the house is literally rotting. This is the structure of the home, it s just rotting. This house, right now it is five years old, completed january 2011. Stewart so what s wrong . Engineers hired by sasso say of the approximately 80 homes they tested in the neighborhood, they all had stucco problems. At the Orange CountyCommission Meeting concerning this issue, the stucco was not done with accordance at the time. Stewart county building inspector tim boldig told the room full of upset homeowners that inspectors saw stucco cracking and water intrusion, damage to the structural wood members, and damage to the floor system. And behind the stucco, rotted wood and damp walls. Wesh 2 experts air Quality Assessors, who also testified at the Commission Hearing and talked about these black spots, visited the site with us and peeled back to identify what those black splotches could possibly be. Richie kidwell we aren t sure exactly what type of mold it is. We know it s mold. We know it s bad, depending on somebody s immune system is how to direct mold swabs, one from the top, one from the bottom. Stewart at today s hearing, air Quality Assessors identified it as black mold, or by its scientific name, stachybotrys that was found. Pulte homes is the developer who constructed all 140 of the town homes in this neighborhood. We spoke to the president of pulte florida about these concerns. Wesh 2 investigates uncovered attorney jeff ashton s son owns one of these homes and while ashton says he won t prosecute the builder, he wants attorney general pam bondi to look into the matter. Ashton wrote a letter to bondi, which reads in part, they pay lip service, but have done nothing. As a father, fatherinlaw, and grandfather to those unlucky enough to have purchased one of these potentially unsafe homes, i would ask that you look into this matter. A just released study says Orange County could do a better job of with the money it spends to fight homelessness. Meredith mayor Teresa Jacobs hired a consultant to look at the 23 programs the county gives a total of 7. 7 million each year to address homelessness. The Research Found that almost 44 of that money is not going to those in the most imminent danger of ending up without shelter. Jacobs says the county will likely rework its contracts with those agencies with a new emphasis on housing first. Mayor jacobs having this report and shedding the light on how we re doing is extremely beneficial in us changing the meredith the report suggests that transitional housing programs often end up with people being homeless again so they may not be an effective use of government dollars.
