Reporter three Deltona Middle School girls are facing charges after investigators say they tried to poison their teacher tuesday at the school. This started when the teacher, jane morgan sent Marjorie Herrera to the principals backpack and possibly stealing a laptop computer. She brought crushed red pepper and put it in the teachers soda. She started to choke and experienced shortness of breath. Two other girls were charged for being in on the plan. More than one person was dying from a heroin overdose per week just in orlando. The task force was created last august to fight the problem. There are 37 people infected with the zika virus. Two new cases were confirmed in florida. All of the patients so far were infected outside of the country. That means president zika virus has not made it into the local mosquito population just yet. Earlier this week we told there are six others nationwide. Doctors warn zika can cause severe birth defects in newborns. Three babies have been born, one had a birth defect. Two ended in miscarriages and two ended in abortions and two of the women are pregnant experiencing no complications. Three young girls are in juvenile jail accused of poisoning their teacher. Police say three spiked her soda and made her sick. As Eyewitness Newss Julie Salomone reports, one of the girls came up with the idea to get back at the teacher. Reporter the Sheriffs Office says it was done in retaliation to get back at the teacher after one of the students got in trouble. Now three are in the juvenile detention center. Three Deltona Middle School girls are facing charges after investigators say they tried to poison their teacher tuesday at the school. This started when the teacher, jane morgan sent Marjorie Herrera to the Principals Office for dumping glue in a students backpack and suspicion of stealing a laptop computer. She brought crushed red pepper soda. The teacher took several sips, her throat became hot and scratchy, she started to choke and experienced shortness of breath. Two other girls were charged for being in on the plan. The Sheriffs Office pointed out one of the students distracted the teacher while the other put the pepper in the drink. There are 37 people infected with the zika virus throughout florida. Two new cases were confirmed in florida. All of the patients so far were infected outside of the country. That means president zika virus has not made it into the local mosquito population just yet. Earlier this week we told pregnant. There are six others nationwide. Doctors warn zika can cause severe birth defects in newborns. Of the nine confirmed cases, three babies have been born. One had a birth defect. Two ended in miscarriages and two ended in abortions and two of the women are pregnant experiencing no complications. The number of deaths connected to the drug is soaring across the state. In Central Florida, its linked to 68 deaths just last year. We started digging into the root of the problem and traced it back to heroin. Reporter johns addiction starred with pills. His mother told us that got too expensive so he was turned on to heroin. He was a smart kid. Reporter thats the thing, heroin does not discriminate. Sandy watched her son go in and out of treatment programs in orlando. Thought he finally turned the corner. He was going to the bible study. He was, you know, had money, he just bought a laptop and clothes. Reporter then she got the phone call. Johns body was found in an apartment badly decomposed. The medical examiner found lighter, syringes, baggies and glass pipe. An autopsy found a high level of fentanyl in his system. The heroin he injected was likely faced with it. This is worse than heroin. Heroin would be two to three times more powerful than morphine. Fentanyl 100 times more powerful. Reporter 9news investigated deaths. 539 deaths were reported to the state nearly double the year before. 145 of those deaths in 2014 alone. So, when you mix this with heroin, it sounds like its instant death. It can be. Reporter there are survivors. The scope of the problem is worse than the death toll piling up at the morgue.
