Bridgewater State Hospital who are suffering from mental illness. Today the governor unveiled a new plan. Ryan le wants to move away from the prison model opting for a more clinical approach. He was committed in january because of his Mental Health problems. But mixed in with other patients who are not only mentally ill but also inmates convicted of serious crimes. He was beaten several times by other inmates that the faculty i believe knew about and was well aware of the threats against him. Reporter today duncan tried to convince the legislative committee to adopt governor bakers plans to completely revamp bridgewater State Hospital convicted patients from the rest of the population. Many of the state inmates have been convicted of murder are or rape and until you separate them, you cant make the positive changes that you would need to treat the other civilly committed inmates. Reporter the baker plan would move the convicted patients out of bridgewater State Hospital into the nearby old colony correctional facility. It. Would also remove Corrections Officers from inside bridgewater State Hospital and with medical Mental Health professionals. We want the best Cost Effective best care the for the patients. Is there too much violence at bridgewater State Hospital. Its not a hospital. Its a prison. And i believe that we need some serious changes to be made with the care of our meantaly ill population.
