Whitehill and matt stephenson. The state charged polson for attempted murder for those two shootings but the jury chose the lesser charge. Stephenson avoided injury but whitehill was shot in the back and neck and has permanent nerve damage a result of the shooting. Polson was also found guilty on two counts of willful injury as well as all the drug and weapons charges he faced. Polson showed little emotion as the verdict was read and was immediately taken into custody without bond. I did have a chance to speak to a few of the victims and they were still trying to process the verdict and did not want to go on camera. Polson will be sentenced in december on all nine charges. With just the attempted murder, assault and willful injury charges polson faces up to 50 years in prison. A man is dead after exchanging gun fire with police in cedar rapids. It all started around 1030 last night when an officer pulled over car on suspicion of drug activity. But when the vehicle stopped 21 yearold Jonathan Gossman got out and ran. At one point during the chase police say gossman fired a gun at officers. Officials shot back. Fatally wounding grossman. No officers were injured. The dci has been called in to help with the case. Des Moines Police say a motorcyclist led them on a high speed chase this morning. Officers report that they spotted 29yearold jordan young was riding a stolen motorcycle around 2 oclock. When authorities tried to pull young over he sped off. The chase ended at northeast 51st and hull when his bike stalled out. Two officers were injured during the chase when their car went into the ditch. Young is now charged with Second Degree theft, eluding and owi. This isnt the first time young has tried to run from the law. Last year, police say he rammed a Bounty Hunters vehicle in west des moines. That prompted the Bounty Hunter to open fire. A short chase ended when young jumped into the raccoon river. Young pleaded guilty to two counts of assault in that case. Police in altoona are increasing surveillance after an incident involving a suspicious vehicle. Officers were called to the 5th avenue southwest and 3rd street southwest. They say two students from Altoona Elementary School were approached by two men in the truck who offered them candy and a ride. The suspects drove off after the students ignored them.
