Ginger will have more on where the Severe Weather is heading in a moment but first lets go to abcs rob marciano on the scene in livingston parish. Good morning, rob. Reporter good morning, robin. Beyond the flooded homes and neighborhoods, its nearly impossible to get around. The good news this morning is that i12 finally opened. The bad news is you cant get off it because the ramps and neighborhoods are still cars here. While the water slowly recedes here towns just downstream are seeing the rising water right now. Overnight, fear and evacuations in sorrento, louisiana. People with boats searching in the middle of the night for neighbors who might still be trapped. The mayor saying all 1500 residents of the town will be impacted. Were not going to give up. Well stay till the bloody end and if knocks us down well get back up and were going rebuild. Reporter the water at six times the normal level and still rising. Many people spent the night sandbagging hoping to save their homes. Parts of louisiana being declared federal disaster areas and from the sky we saw just how hard it is to spot dry land. There are so many neighborhoods under water, even from the air you cant tell where the actual river should be. This remember rising 17 feet higher than flood levels after a Staggering Amount of rainfall. 30 inches in less than three damaged so i need help. I lost everything. Reporter more than 30,000 people rescued. The National Guard alone pulling more than 7600 people to safety. Emergency shelters packed with over 12,000 people now homeless and that number expected to grow. Even as waters recede, major roads still shut down. And that includes interstate 10, which is still shut down in spots. A sad statistic is that with all thesho flooded, less than 20 of them have flood insurance. The volunteer effort has been remarkable. Seems like anybody with a boat has come in to help. So many volunteer boats, robin, theyre being called the cajun navy. The volunteer cajun navy, you got that right, thank you. The weather system now on the move and northeast facing Severe Weather threats today and, ginger, you have more on that. Right, and so all they need in places like louisiana is a half inch of rain and you see more flash flooding so we still back into san antonio flash flood watches. As they try to maintain the is headed there tonight where tensions are very high. Law and order a big theme of his campaign and new proposal to screen immigrants with, quote, extreme vetting, to combat terror. This morning, donald trump hoping to get his campaign back on track rolling out a plan to combat radical islamic terrorism. Support networks for radical islam in this country will be stripped out and removed one by one viciously if necessary. Reporter the trump doctrine homeland, only allowing immigrants who pass an ideological screening to make sure they, quote, share our values. The time is overdue to develop a new Screening Test for the threats we face today. I call it extreme vetting. I call it extreme, extreme vetting. Reporter and also expanding his temporary ban on foreign we will have to temporarily suspend immigration from some of the most dangerous and volatile regions of the world that have a history of exporting terrorism. Reporter and trump says hes the man for the job because Hillary Clinton is too unhealthy to take on terrorists. She also lacks the mental and physical stamina to take on isis. Reporter now, as is tradition in general elections the Clinton Campaign this morning announcing their white house transition team, it will be led by former interior secretary ken salazar and he will plan and prepare for a potential Clinton Kaine administration. Governor Chris Christie still leading that effort for donald trump. David. Tom, w lets get right to our chief white house correspondent, Jonathan Karl this morning. First, donald trump called for in his words extreme vetting of immigrants. A questionnaire with an ideological test but did we hear how it would be enforced or specific question, how they would be different from the questions already asked now . Reporter david, first, thgs the first time ive seen a candidate use the word extreme in an effort to provide a more moderate position, more moderate there were precious few details about what questions would be asked. The basic idea here is to only allow in immigrants who share american values, but, david, theres also no detail about what would happen or what would prevent a potential terrorist from simply lying on that questionnaire. And Bigger Picture here, jon, as you know obviously this was an attempt at a major reset for donald trump after a rough week, trumps comments about Second Amendment people and what they could do among other things. Weve seen these resets before. Will this one stick . Reporter the republicans i spoke to were thrilled to see nobodys predicting it will last, but, david, the problem for trump is hes kind of like a Football Team thats been down by a couple of touchdowns because theyve thrown interceptions, fumbles. Its not enough to prevent mistakes from happening. He needs to actually score some points now. Jonathan karl with us this morning, our thanks to you as always as well. I think it would be a measure of good faith to release the video because it would clearly show what happened and thats reporter the tension leading to violent protest, businesses torched, 31 arrested. Heavy rain flooded the racetrack delaying the evening events as wildfires burned just ten miles from rios field hockey arena. Because of the wind you see divers falling off the board. Reporter and strong winds plagued sailing and mens diving. As far as that dive on the track goes, its perfectly legal. You have to remember, guys, not just what some part of the body crosses first, it has to be the torso. Thats why you see sprinters do that to get across the finish line but its perfectly legal. Too bad the american missed out. It lit up twitter last night, as you know, people wondering about that. Thank you, t. J. Joining us with more of the events, olympic gold medallist Dominique Dawes is back with us. Lets start with simone first. A rare misstep on the beam but still managed to be on the podium. You know, her routines are pretty difficult to do and thats why she was able to get on the podium with nearly a fall on the balance beam. A huge deduction but she doesnt that wasnt part of her game plan. It was wonderful to see her hug laurie and shes so, you know, grateful for winning the bronze and grateful for her teammate being there and shes going to have another chance tonight. They are truly teammates and competing versus aly, the olympic reigning champion on this event, the floor exercise so theyll be neck and neck till the finish. Love to see that camaraderie, how genuine it is. I love it. Lets talk about the dive. I know its not your sport. I know. T. J. Said combined two sports, diving and track and field and people thought, cant be true but its legal. Shaunae miller knows that this is her olympic moment and if she feels as if shes running out of gas at the end and she needs to dive across that finish line, thats what you do. I love the sport of track and field because at the end of the day you have a stop watch. No one judging so she knew that was going to be her best chance to get a gold medal and beat Allyson Felix. Gma games later. I am. Very excited about that. Youll be fair. Im going to be very fair. Impartial. Someone might be paying me under the table. Well see. Jesse cannot be bought off. Theyre now suing claiming the app placed pokestops or hot spots near private property without the consent of the owners. Becky worley joining us. Come on. This is getting annoying for people who look out their front windows and see people playing pokemon go. Real world problems, pokemon go, as you mentioned, places pokestops in all sorts of locations and, david, the problem, they aggregate some of draw rubbing a couple from st. Clair shores, michigan the wrong way and have the unfortunate luck living across a pokegym. They thought it was a local park but it has at least seven pokemon stops and hundreds of people come each day trampling their flowers, looking in their windows, it kind of sounds like a horror show. They allege that theyve submitted requests via the website to get the pokestops removed but only received generic replies, to action so in big names, niantic, the app developer, nintendo and the Pokemon Company and wont pokemon go to pokemonstop in their neighborhood. You have been an olympian and won a gold medal, a silver medal. What do you make of all this . I mean im not surprised of the backlash because i feel thats the day and age we live in where twitter and social media and you can find the smallest things. Is it okay . And everything you go through to win that gold medal and you have so much pride for your country but i remember them going through this is what im surprised about. I remember as an olympian 04 and 08 talking about the etiquette of being on the medal stand and ingraining into us how to stand, how to hold the flag in moments when you want to grab it after you win. We had this conversation and who told you how to do it. Our staff and it was always repeated and just make sure that when you grab the flag you hold it like this when youre on stand this is how you stand. I think thats important for the younger athletes. Think about it competing, the last thing thats going to be on their mind the emotions theyre feeling. You helped break a barrier with Major League Baseball and felt the wrath of twitter too. What do you have to say to gabby . The hardest thing no matter how confident you are and look at what a kick butt athlete it is, it affects you. Without even being in her shoes its hurtful and i think when people say and backlash and everything shes faced no way that those words didnt affect her especially when she was competing and thats the part that really upsets me. You handled it very well and youre good at what you do and youve earned it. Its good advice for gabby too. It does hurt. Some people tweeting. Big news for Pumpkin Spice latte . Yeah. All right, mcdonalds announcing it will start serving its version of the get this august 31st, folks. This is going to bring in new customers and sort of similar to the milk in the back of the grocery store. Pumpkin spice latte and might buy Something Else. Thats great for business. We see this with the holidays also. How early they put up the decorations and all that. Same thing. You see the backlash online and guess what, that works an advantage as well for retailers. Weve seen christmas in july. It was great for amazon when they rolled that out and a number of other retailers. Mcdonalds is banking on this. They want to beat starbucks to the punch and people were upset things on september 8th because they felt it was too late. They needed their Pumpkin Spice lattes. Your psls are here. He won a record 23 gold medals but the thing hes most proud of being dad to baby boomer and told you about it, didnt he . Yeah, funny thing is 12 years ago when i was a young anchor reporter out in the bay area i met a 19yearold kid named Michael Phelps before he went to athens and became a last night and the topics of conversation were much different this time around. Good to see you. You too. Reporter he may be the most decorated olympian of all time, but forget his 28 medals, i call it Michael Phelps toting Something Else around. I saw you carrying a baby seat with a baby in it. Yep. Times have changed. They have. I was walking out with my backpack on one shoulder, the babys backpack on the other shoulder and the car seat in one ha so something im excited about and proud of. Reporter proud papa to boomer, the 3 Million Dollar mini michael stealing the spotlight. And especially when daddy climbed the stands to sneak a kiss after winning gold. We welcome you back t gma. Gold medal swimmer Simone Manuel joining us live just ahead. We cant wait for that. First weve got a health alert for pregnant women about tylenol. Its a new study that suggests women who take it could increase the risks their babies develop behavioral problems. Ashton is here with the research and a reality check. So tell us more about this. Heres the study right here. Comes out of a very well respected peer review journal. Were talking about one of the most commonly used medications acetaminophen thats used in pregnancy and this study found women who took it while they were pregnant went on to have children who were at increased risk for problems with conduct, hyperactivity and emotional issues. Now, issues and flaws and limitations with this study. There is no data about why these women took acetaminophen in pregnancy. Theres a thinking that the reason that caused them to need to take the medication could be implicated here. No data on how much they took, the dose or for how long, so more research definitely needed. Yeah, because some doctors are saying they need a little bit more on that. So why would a pregnant woman take this . Look, i think we have to remember that in obstetrics we have two patients here, a mother and a baby and so there anything from a headache to a muscle ache to a kidney stone so theres a spectrum there. Fever, we know if the mother gets a fever, that is not good for a developing baby, so that could be a fetal reason, and then injury and surgery. That happens to pregnant women just like it happens to nonpregnant women so you have to weigh those. Youve delivered, what, Something Like 1500 babies so you know of what you speak. So what do you recommend to your patients if theyre having issues . Hi yesterday i was in touch with our National Society and they came out very strongly against this study right now saying that this study and others in the past show no clear evidence that provides a direct relationship between acetaminophen and any behavioral problems. We say it over and over again on abc because its so important. Association does not equal causation. We need to have the science and the biology to show a cause and effect before we make a sweeping recommendation and right now women should not be afraid to take this if they really need are there other things that they can do if theyre having certain issues . You know, thats the therapeutic dilemma and we try to avoid aspirin, nonsteroidal, opioids have their issues so talk to your midwife or obstetrician. This is not the last well hear of it. Or talk to you because dr. Ashton will take your questions on twitter and facebook throughout the morning. We appreciate it. You bet. Coming up, gold medal swimmer, Simone Manuel, is joining us live, opening up about her big victory. Shes got to get ready to go back to school just like us. Come on back. Come on back. In here. Can you really wear shorts to the office . You absolutely can wear shorts to the office. For the most part the workplace is really evolving and were seeing this shift towards a more casual environment. To show us how to pull off the look, we hit up their fashion closet. First up, sophie in a pleated striped skort. Builtin shorts as you see in the pleats. Sophie is not particularly short. Shes not particularly tall either and shes curvy. You want to create balance and proportion and a really good way to do that is with an aline silhouette. Are there any rules for the fabric . Choose a fabric thats more synthetic and has structure to it. Nothing thats transparent. Anything thats too flimsy in nature is going to look wrinkled and going to look less professional. Next up, sara in a pair of silk tie front shorts. If youre petite like sara is, youre looking for something that has a little tiny bit more volume. Are there any rules to what kinds of shorts will work . A good rule of thumb is to actually follow your thumbs if you will. Her longest finger is in line with the hem length of the short. If its any shorter than that, you probably dont want to wear them to work. And finally, chisom rocking a more formal short suit. Shes in our tall category. Think about the equation of how so she can show a little bit more skin on her legs. How do you make sure youre elevating shorts so theyre professional enough . You want to make sure youre marrying them with statement pieces that really feel like theyre ready for the workplace. The studded earrings, top handle bag and a nice work watch that has some gravity to it. Really let the shorts stay. Now, what shoes you wear with your shorts are also going to be really important. Make sure that the heel isnt too high or might look like youre headed to the club and not the office. Never a good thing. Opt for a chunkier heel instead of a stiletto. Keeps it a little more conservative. Im kind of a skirt girl but might get me here, lori bergamotto. A skort. Yes, a skort. The style director of Good Housekeeping here. These are for the office . They really are. We dressed mara. Doesnt she look beautiful . You did a great job. We kept her in a balance and wanted balance and showing a covered up. Not just for women. Not just for women. We have a special model coming in. Im loving this look. Oh, wow. Our favorite men. How about that on jesse. This is all from j. Crew. What we did with jesse is its really the same rules. Want to make sure youre not showing more than two to three inches on the knee. You can see his knee got a nice tight shot. This would not be okay. Not too much. We gave him a little texture with the pocket square and elevated it with a summer weight suit jacket. Any rules for manscaping if you show all this leg . Just be natural. I appreciate this. I appreciate it too. I think youre doing a good job. I came au naturel. Its all about just the fabric that youre looking for in a short, making sure theres structure and not too short. You dont want to look like youre a von trapp family singer or going to hogwarts. Closing ceremonies outfit for bermuda at the olympics. It could be. On a day like this shorts works for everyone.
